I submitted a resume last night through Careerbuilders and so far, i received 8 job offerings so far, a few from really big companies(Farmers insurance, Prudential financial)... Still waiting on more!!! And this is just with a high school diploma with no degree. (still working on it!)

I guess the economy is getting better? GO GO GO!!!

You don't say what kind of job you are looking for. My DH was laid off yesterday, and his job search has begun. There are very few jobs in his field, if any...and they don't pay enough to support a family.:sad2: It's pretty bleak out there, for us anyway. Sorry to be 'doom and gloom' but apparently, we're just not seeing what you are.

Job offers? Really?

Or just a list of jobs that you might be qualified for?

There's a big difference.

You are saying you got actual job offers from people who have never laid eyes on you? Why am I having trouble believing you?

That's wonderful news. Maybe your resume reflects experience in an area that these companies have a need for. Can't help but wonder what kind of positions these jobs are for.

My DH has been out of work for 20 months. Yes, 20 months. He has over 30 years experience in his field. His resume is posted with Careerbuilder, Monster, and several other online job sites. He is also registered with several employment agencies. In those 20 months, he's sent out over 300 hundred resumes in direct response to posted job opportunities and had about 20 interviews, with not one offer of employment. One company even interviewed him 4 times before determining that his background didn't meet the requirements for the position (huh?? you mean you didn't read resume before wasting everyone's time? ... but that's an entirely different story).

Another thing to beware of is that sometimes, jobs are posted that don't really exist. DH saw a job on Monster that was with company X. Well, he has a friend who works for Company X and so called him and asked about it. Friend says, that's odd, we don't have any openings, and are in fact, laying people off, but that would explain why we are being bombarded with resumes. HUH? Seems as though the online job service just reposted an old ad in hopes of getting Company X to renew their service.

Finally, DH did receive a couple of offers to interview for insurance companies for sales. Let's just say his resume reflects no background in insurance or sales. Why would these companies want him? They didn't really, just a fishing expedition.

Hopefully, one will pan out....but, if I were you, I wouldn't get too excited, at least not yet.

I don't mean to be mean, but those jobs are nothign to brag about. They call everyone who posts a resume! If they say insurance/financial services sales I immediately erase/delete the message. I believe you only get paid if you sell something. Not a true "job" in my book. I hate putting my resume up on there because I know I have to then weed through all those junk calls and head hunter calls.

When my husband lost his job about 19 months ago, he never wanted for emails from insurance co's, and seedy fly-by-night co's that directly approached him to take advantage of their career 'opportunities'. There 's a high turnover in these fields because maintaining a lucrative sales career in insurance is not easy.

OP, be careful of any company that requires you to pay them money to participate in a training program.

There are plenty of 'jobs' here too. The gov't is always hiring someone too. Our population is so small that they are the main economy up here. Unfortunately I was laid off just before new years. The stupid part is I got laid off from a job(I am a carpenter) that was not close to done. I felt I was doing well and had worked for the company 3 years. I guess when the bosses(for some reason I had like 5or6 bosses..lol) don't like you, there is no opinion aloud. Nice they let me go right before my vacation, with no notice. Luckily my DW(really shes my Dgirlfriend but we have been together 5+yrs) makes good money and we are doing OK. Although I feel like I am letting her and her daughter down a bit. My going on vacation cancels out employment benefits for that time in January, so I have not recieved any money from them yet. Luckily I had enough saved for my truck payment for Jan and Feb.
Just thinking about this pi$$es me off....Im done...hahaha

Yep, my sister got offers like that too. She called me to brag about how great she must be to get offers that quickly. I didn't say anything but knew it would turn out to be a scam. Turns out they wanted her sell insurance but she had to pay them for the leads. It's really sad that they get people's hopes up like that when the reality is that decent jobs are scarce.

You are saying you got actual job offers from people who have never laid eyes on you? Why am I having trouble believing you?

I'm having trouble as well--who hires sight unseen based on a resume that could easily be lied upon.

I could understand some nibbles and interest...but an actual OFFER?

I will say my husband was hired literally sight unseen--but that doesn't mean they did not do an extensive interviewing process. It was all handled remotely.

But since this is the insurance industry which is commission based--they have nothing to lose by recruiting you.

Other than the amount of time off (14 months for me ) and experience (ONLY 10+ years) this has been me.

I hope yours does pan out OP but I don't see any huge amounts of jobs in my field (Admin) that pay enough to eat....and the jobs I do apply to have hundreds of people sending in their resume to.

I too was laid off more than a year ago (with more than 30 years experience - 20 as an Army journalist) and have resumes out all over the place with very few interviews and no job offers. My son-in-law is in the same boat and put his resume out on those job sites and also received several of those "offers." However, they were all either cattle calls or some kind of commission-based sales position. Nothing that panned out to a real job that could support a family.

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but be very careful when answering these "job offers."

My dream job? Working for the internal communications department of Walt Disney World! :cool1:

He didn't say "offer".

He said "offerings". As in, offering up info on jobs.

Albort, I wish you huge amounts of luck, but if this means you're leaving DLR before I have a chance to find you, well, harumph. :upsidedow

As for the other replies...it all depends on area, exact background, etc. DH's former department closed last May, and despite having had the same job for 2 years, 2 of his co-workers STILL do not have jobs. His oldest co-worker in that department (who was *scared*, as he was approaching 60) was the first to get another job. DH got a job after 2 solid months of following up leads from monster and looking around his company for jobs (even seriously thinking about relocating to North Dakota); good job, but contract work with insurance so bad COBRA was a better deal, and when his old company called him a month into the new job, he accepted their new offer.

DH has no college degree either, but a really unique career path and skillset, and it interests HR people.

So I wish you the best of luck, Albort!

Well, I just want to wish ALL of you that need work....the best of luck getting something that will pay you what you deserve to be paid, with a chance to make even more! :wizard:

There is definitely plenty of contract work here in DH's field (IT) but he wanted something full time and perm! So when he last contract ended we waited it out. It took him 3 weeks to find something perm without us having to move. They are harder to come by. I hope it works out for you OP!

its ppl who express interest and wish to interview me based on my resume to be part of their company.

yes, its not exactly that i got the job but yeah, its still something...

i actually just signed on to a 2nd job + my current job...

Yikes, I can understand the contract pain! DH is in the IT field and is lucky enough to have a secure full-time job with a company that has actually done VERY well through the recession (the company's stock price went from $70 to over $140 in the last 16 months) and is actively expanding. You would think that the company would be hiring like crazy, and they are.... But not full time permanent jobs; they're instead hiring contractors that they can pay less and not offer benefits to. It's driving DH nuts that he has to retrain a new contractor every 6 months!

So even companies that are doing well right now are playing it conservatively. It makes it very tough for even qualified people to find full time work in high demand fields.
