first time driving with kids. Any one who has done from NY, any good places to stop and do fun things for the kids?

In no rush, might even take me 3 days! ty

I LOVE WDW:rotfl:

Stop at South of the Border which is right off I-95 in South Carolina just at the border with North Carolina. You cannot miss their signs as you approach and it sets the World Standard for Tacky! It is something that everyone should do at least once.

Get a copy of "Drive I-95, Exit by Exit"! We've driven from NJ to Disney many times and this book is amazing for browsing through and picking out good things to see and places to stop. It also makes it real easy to plan basic rest stops for food and gas. It has lots of fun extras like radio stations, mileage charts, trivia, etc. It lists pretty much everything at every exit.

Some of our favorite places are Washington DC, Savannah, GA and St Augustine FL--we've done the drive in 3 days from NYC burbs with those stops. Lots of fun attractions in those 3 places. Another favorite spot is Petersburg VA since we have a couple of Civil War buffs.

Let us know what kind of interests you and the kids have? And how old they are? We can give you more ideas that way.

One of our kids' favorite budget eateries along the way is Waffle House. They also like Shoney's. They like looking at the differences between these chains' offerings and NY food.

:thumbsup2

Also start checking out the Billboards for South of the Border. They usually start a couple of states ahead. Its such a huge build up.

We stopped at the Jacksonville Zoo last year, and my kids have asked to do it again this year. We've also done St. Augustine which was nice, but my little kids like the zoo better.

I used to live in Florence, SC and always recommend Redbone Alley as a good travel stop. It's something different from the usual fast food. They have a small gated area for families with little kids to eat that has toys & a real ice cream truck for the kids to play on. There's a game room upstairs for the big kids, the atmosphere is really cool--decorated like an outdoor marketplace--and best of all, the food is very good. Check out the website, Redbonealley.com, for the menu.
Here's a picture of the interior:

I too lived in Florence S.C. and would also recommend Redbone Alley. Their shrimp and grits will make you swallow you tongue! There is also Starfire Grill almost right across the street from Redbone Alley that is also really good. Have a great trip!

Both are beloved Southern icons.

Shoney's is a full-service restaurant featuring "Classic American Food" (if you go, go for the all-you-can-eat Breakfast Bar!)

Waffle House is exactly as the name implies -- plus, they serve steaks/burgers, etc. To someone from up north, you would call it a diner...

Redbone is about a 5 min drive (depending on traffic and lights) off the interstate. It is a pretty much a straight shot. Your kids would love it. They get to visit the icecream truck and pick out their desert. If you would like more specific directions let me know. We just ate there in Dec. on our way back home from Christmas in N.C. (we live in Fl. now).

AWESOME. and i love the photo.

is it near the interstate? thanks guys!

Redbone Alley is about 5 minutes from I-95, and very easy to find. Get off at the Business I-20 exit toward Florence and go straight until it ends. Redbone will be in the shopping center on the left.

And I second the shrimp & grits suggestion...that's what I always order when we get back there.
