NWA vs. Virgin (and booking with netflights)

So I was always planning on flying with VA, as they are usually my only consideration in travel to the States, but have heard loads of great stuff about NWA on these boards.

Found flights on Netflights with NWA (connecting in Detroit) for £601 for the two of us.

Is making the connection (and saving ££) worth choosing NWA over VA? Are the planes a lot nicer? (Fiance is 6'5" so likes legroom!)

Also, is it safe to book through netflights?

AND one final thing:

How long do I need to connect in the states?

The NWA flight we took in Oct knocked spots off Virgin, It was new with great IFE, no idea how many films but a lot, great music selection(more important than films for me). Staff were outstanding.
Whats the saving over Virgin? our choice was £240 with NWA (LHR 3 hour drive) or about £800 (MAN 45 min drive) easy choice for me.
Netflights are perfectly safe(as safe as any can be thru a recession) Used them for years for flights, hotels and car hire(about 15 rentals thru them)
Ideally you want a 2 hour connection but it can be done in less. coming home 90 mins.

Might try and convince Jack on booking tonight.

We'll be saving about £200 and Heathrow (50 min drive) instead of Gatwick (20 min drive) so no big worry there.
