nut allergies & Animal Kingdom?

Hi. Our 3 year old has life threatening allergy to peanuts and tree nuts. I read that some places may use nut shells in dino digs and was wondering if anyone knew about the boneyard in Animal Kingdom and the small dig at the T-Rex at Downtown Disney?

My son's peanut and tree nut allergy is also life threatening. we have been playing in the dino dig since he was little and never had any problem..I don't know about them using peanut shells I never heard that before. I'm sure if you call or email them someone can verify it for you. I'm going to have to keep an eye out on this one, I never thought of any place using shells like that.

This is our first time going to disney since our son was diagnosed in march.
I've been researching through the months and learned many 'dino digs' use nut shells as 'fillers', which has me a bit concerned about animal kingdom.
I know I was told that many of the CMs there may have nuts in their pockets/on their hands to reward the animals, especially in the flgihts of wonder show.
Also wondering if petting zoo would be 'safe'- I've heard lots of feed 'out there' can contain nuts as well.

My DD also has severe peanut/treenut allergies. We have been to Flights of Wonder many times. You don't touch the birds and we have never had a problem. She is 16 now, so the petting zoo isn't an issue, but I wouldn't let her handle any animal feed. I would ask about the dig site, but with the number of PA kids who visit, I'd be surprised if they used peanut shells. I know how scarey your first trip with a severe allergy can be, but WDW is really great. Plan ahead and err on the side of caution and you will have a great time.
