Are you allowed 2 wait lists per night, or 2 per year? Calendar year or use year? We have a December use year, if that matters.

Two per membership number per use year.

What you need to know about the wait list for Disney Vacation Club Resorts:

  • During the Home Resort Priority, you can only wait list at your Home Resort.
  • You can have up to two active wait list requests per Membership per Use Year.
  • Wait list requests for consecutive nights cannot be split into separate night-by-night requests.
  • Your request will remain on the wait list for up to 31 days before your requested check-in date. If you'd like to keep your name on the wait list beyond that time, contact Member Services at least 32 days prior to your requested check-in date.
  • There is no wait list available within seven days of your requested check-in date.
  • If your wait list request becomes available, Member Services will automatically confirm the reservation and mail a confirmation to you.
  • There is no need to contact Member Services once your request has been placed on the wait list.
  • All other wait list requests or previously confirmed reservations for comparable dates will be cancelled when a wait list request is confirmed. Additionally, you will not be contacted prior to a wait list request being confirmed and a confirmation letter being mailed to you.
  • As a courtesy to other Members, please contact Member Services if you no longer wish to be on the wait list.

FYI for those that may not know, the wait lists are by resort by room category. If you want a studio at BWV, you can request a standard view and a premium view, that's 2 wait lists. If a Boardwalk View studio becomes available you won't get it because that's a different category.

This really becomes an issue at resorts with multiple room catagories. At Aulani, there are four different views, and each can be chosen as a lockoff or non-lockoff. So if you want to waitlist a one bedroom condo, there are eight different catagories, of which you can only waitlist two. There should be an option of overriding the catagories if you just want to be sure to get the room, taking whatever view or lockoff/non-lockoff configuration that becomes available.

I've mentioned this to Member Satisfaction in a phone call last year. It affects me at VGC - I could be happy in a studio, but would prefer a 1 bedroom.

I couldn't waitlist both because I had one outstanding, for a WDW reservation, so the other side of the country, at a completely different time, of course.

So I had to pick one category at VGC and hope.

When I mentioned the option of "Just get me into the resort" I could hear them shrug over the phone.

Thanks everyone for the information. I wonder why they chose 2 as the limit. I can see that there would have to be some limit, but 2 seems like a very small number, especially if you're planning multiple vacations. I think it would be reasonable to allow waitlists for a particular room category, for example, 2 bedroom. Then you could get any 2 bedroom (lock off or dedicated) and any view.

The wait list limit was lowered to 2 a couple of years ago. Just another reminder that Disney can change the rules when ever they want and usually the changes do not benefit the owners.

Because people were waitlisting individual nights. So they limited it to two waitlists.

I just don't understand why they would care if people want to do this. It seems a little risky to me as you could end up having to move in the middle of your stay, but if you're willing to risk it, why would they mind?

At the time, there was no way to request wait lists online or check their status online. It took a lot of MS time to talk with members to set up and monitor their wait lists.

Wait lists at the time could also be very confusing because there were so many choices. You had to tell them whether you wanted to wait list the entire reservation or individual nights. You also had the option to book automatically, or have them call you to confirm before booking the wait list.

They made the assessment that the policies at the time were very labor intensive, so we got an "enhancement" to the current policy.

Send an email to member satisfaction and tell them what you think.

Personally, I don't mind most of the changes. I do wish there was a way to book "any studio" or "any room 2-bedroom or smaller" and those types of requests again.

I wouldn't mind seeing the ability to have more than 2 wait lists if it is for the same resort for the same dates that have multiple views.

As mentioned, it would be nice to be able to put in a wait list for all the views at say, BLT or BWV, for a particular room size.

But, as it is now, you wait list the two most popular and then call to see if the other one comes available. With online booking, its not as bad since you can check yourself, but it would still be nice if something like this was allowed.

2 is reasonable in general but to make it by category seems too limiting to me. As noted here, it affects members differently based on the home resort and the resort in question. IMO, it should be by resort and unit size, not individual category. Marriott will wait list for any view as a single WL, however, they actually tie up the points in doing so which is likely more negative.
