Now the names of some birds are offensive.

It's probably unrelated.

From 1984(Orwell):“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

Naming birds for their physical features and habitat seems logical to me. What makes _____'s bird different from _____'s bird? But saying a brown head bird or a red head bird more clearly describes them.

I'm still confused why birds were named after confederate generals in the first place.
Well, you wouldn’t be confused if you actually read that McCown’s Longspur was named after amateur ornithologist John P. McCown 10 years before he became a confederate general. And as far as I know, that’s the only bird that has a name associated with a confederate general.

I wish they would stop doing this with bridges and some buildings.

And amphitheaters and arenas shouldn't be named after corporations who sponsor them, only to be renamed several years later when another sponsor takes over. Staples Center is now called something else, which I can't even remember. Very confusing!

Also, people shouldn't be able to buy and name stars. They've been around for eons, long before man. They already have names. We just don't know what they are. ;)

While I am on it, Brontosaurus shouldn't have been renamed Apatosaurus. Brontosaurus has a much better sound.

And Dino the Dinosaur in the Flintstones will always be a brontosaurus to me. 🤗

I couldn't agree more, they've tried to monetize all the public athletic buildings around here... you know the ones that the TAXPAYERS paid for with corporate names. I refuse to call them by their fictitious names and call them by their given names when they opened. Throws the newcomers to town, but I'd say the vast majority here agree and hate the various bank and auto dealership names. If they want their name on it, then build it and do what you want. Shout out to the Rose Bowl... the one stadium and game that said no to the whole name game.

Well you can do what you want with star Z4R23Y, but P3X28Q is now CW4D. Oh and it's hard to keep Nascar races straight when they're named for their sponsors. Same goes for college bowl games.

Actually the Apatosaurus name was first.
