Now that frigid weather is here, don't forget the animals who can't get inside!

What a great story.
A couple years ago, I was visiting a gal's home who runs a rescue group (different from ours) to drop off some supplies and one of her neighbors came in with two very tiny kittens (prob less than a week old) that were dead..she had found them frozen. I looked at them, assumed them dead, since they were pretty stiff, and just felt so sorry. If it was up to me, that would have been the end of their story. The gal turned on her toaster oven and laid them in front of it, and darn if they didn't start to breath as they thawed. I was shocked. This gal is a paraplegic, in a wheel chair, but she cared for those kittens and kept them warm and fed, until they were old enough to be adopted out. They seemed to have no lasting affects, other than a little frostbite around the ears.

I know there's a stray cat that wanders around my street. I really wish I knew where she was, so I could at least put food and water in the garage for her.

We have an outside cat who we found wandering the streets 3 yrs ago. I am a dog person and have 3 dogs inside, and my husband is allergic to cats.

We have a dog house on front porch for the cat, with blankets on the inside, and my husband has hooked up a small heater that sits right outside doghouse. It is toasty warm in there. It is funny to see the cat in their just snoozing away in her nice warm house.;)
Since she is an outside cat, we have several of the neighbor cats come over to share in her food. I dont mind really, even though they all have families but know we have food out all the time.
I often tell my kitty 'Stop inviting your friends over for dinner every night?";)

We have a 13-14 year old cat that I have to beg to get her to stay in the house. Now that it is so cold she will stay in a bit more, but she hates it. We do let her out during the day some, but I will continue to fight her at night.

I worry about our dog, but I know he is warm, he is shut in our basement, except for 15 to 30 minutes after we get home, since it has been below freezing every night this week and most of the day. He is go glad to get out a few minutes in the evening, but I like knowing he is warm, even if hs doesn't like it. Dh takes a pitcher of warm water to him every evening when he goes to feed him, I think it might help keep him warm, too.

I just can't stand to see people leave their pets out, for me it would be like leaving your children outside and I don't know anybody that would do that.

Many church's in our area have even opened their doors at night for those that have little or no heat, because we don't usually get this much cold here in East Central Alabama.
