November W.I.S.H. - Thankful is as thankful does.

Looking ahead to Thanksgiving next week, I’m going to be especially mindful of meals and getting out for my walks.

I also want to make a list of meals for over the holiday weekend and make sure I have things to snack on like baby bell peppers and those mini cucumbers.

As we begin another week, what will you do to stay on track?

I agree with making sure I have raw veggies to snack on. I will try to get some extra treadmill time in too.

The main thing I need to work on is sleep. I'm having a very hard time not waking up well before dawn since the time change. And I'm feeling the sleep shortage as sweets cravings and emotional fragility. I think I just need to give up and push my bedtime earlier. 🙁

A friend of mine just said she was struggling with the same issue. She’s exhausted. I find it’s harder every season getting adjusted to these time changes.

I was off of work last Thursday and Friday. I did nothing but go for a walk with DH at lunch. I have been dealing with a headache since last Tuesday and today it seems to be gone. Well I hope it is gone.

Saturday I went to IKEA with my mom. I got a day/trundle bed for DD for Christmas. It is being delivered Wednesday so she is going to get it early. I also got a dresser and 2 night stands for DH and I. The other dress is having shipping issues right now but will get that as soon as I can. We are also getting a new bedding set that comes with curtains from my mom for Christmas. Our room is the only room that we have never done anything with. We have been here for 17 years and it still has the plain white walls. So when we are off for the 2 weeks at Christmas/New Years we are going to take everything out of our room paint it and shampoo the carpets and then put it back together with all the new stuff. I can't wait.

I did the quizzes. I got 5 or 6 on the eyes. I knew then but second guessed on the ones I got wrong. I got all the dress right.

Yesterday, I got up at 8 and went for a walk with DH. It was nice to get that out of the way first thing in the morning. I ran to Target to exchange a coat I got for DS and then DD had her awards ceremony for soccer. Other then that I relaxed at home watching football. I did make homemade spaghetti sauce too.

I am back at work today and I am only here for the week and then I am off next week. It will be nice to be off. I will most likely get my booster this weekend so I might be down for the count for a day. but should be able to get lots of time in exercising.

I am up a pound so this week I am going to focus on watching what I eat and getting more time on the treadmill.

Going to try to pay more attention to my lunches! Dinners are generally not super healthy given who else I am cooking for so going to go back to my old routine of soup or a salad 2-4 times a week for lunch. Hoping that helps as my tummy has been quite jiggly.
Did manage a short workout today. Popped on one of the RuntheImpossible treadmill series youtube videos and did a combination of walking, marching, squats and some burpees. Felt exhausted after but Fitbit said I burned less than 100 calories...dang it.
Proceeded to spill some cooking oil on my hand while making dinner which really hurts! Hoping it feels better tomorrow. Fortunately my inlaws were here at the time. Given one has worked in the restaurant business for 50 years and the other is a retired pharmacist they were able to give me good advice on pain management.
Thinking trying to remove nail polish and repaint my not be the best idea tonight.

I have been going over my menu for next week and although I will still make family favorites, I realized I cook a much different meal than my mother made or that I made years ago. Simple things like roasted or sautéed green beans instead of the Campbell’s version, not adding sugar to my sweet potato casserole, homemade applesauce instead of cranberry sauce. These are all changes my family prefers. We still put real whip cream on the pumpkin pie and I make an old Southern Living recipe for corn pudding-because I don’t want to stress over calories or WW points on a holiday. We always eat early enough to get out for a family walk after dinner. And I am happy to box leftovers for my daughter’s family.

How are you handling Thanksgiving dinner? Are you cooking? Are you a guest?

Thankful to be back on a schedule after that long weekend.

We are guests this year for Thanksgiving, and it's nice the kids are old enough that I gave them each an item to bring! My parents are so excited to have everyone (except my brother in Florida) at their house.

Oh No! I hope it is better today. I know that pain. It sucks. I spilled hot water for tea on me on our way home from a cruise a few years ago. I had second degree burns on my leg and first degree on both hands. Advil did help with some with pain but the best thing was a prescription for silverdine that they gave me when I went to the ER. I still have it and we use it when even any of us gets burned.

We are going to my inlaws at 1 and my moms after that. I will bring gluten desserts to my mom's. She has Celiacs so she can't make them at her house. Dinner there has changed some. Manly the stuffing. I was bringing the regular stuffing for a bit but not very many were eating it and I would have a ton left over. So now since it seems to be just my mom and I that eat it I just eat the gluten free one. It isn't that bad but not as good as the one we used to make.

For my inlaws I won't bring anything. I always ask but the refuse to let me bring anything. I tend to not eat much here though. I am very picky and they like to have weird things (well weird to me). The last few years though they have gone more traditional. I think they didn't like the fact that I refuse to eat game meat. They tried for years to get me to try quill or venison and I just can't bring myself to try it.

When possible, I will have my veggie/fruit smoothie after school as my snack rather than something unhealthy. Wednesday and Thursday are report card conferences, and I will be at school very late, so they will be tough days for eating. I will pack healthy food, but it’s hard to plan enough healthy food for a 12 hour day.

I am also struggling. I usually go to bed between 9:30-10pm. These days I start dozing off about an hour earlier. Then I wake up at 5:00am instead of 6:00am, which is too early for me to get up…DH is getting ready for work at that time and if I am up it interferes with his routine. So I go back to sleep and when the alarm goes off at 6:00am, I have trouble waking up. I am basically dead to the world, walking around in a fog. Even coffee doesn’t help. Ugh!

Hand is feeling much better, still red and my thumb is still swollen but nothing compared to last night.
The soup for lunch worked well...until I was famished like an hour after lunch...maybe something hardier.
We are guests for Thanksgiving the day is kind of done potluck style at my BIL's house. He does the turkey and hosts everyone else brings sides, appetizers or a dessert. I am doing the veggies and I think I am supposed to be picking up some cookies for dessert. Not a huge pie fan myself so I'll be partaking in some chocolate chip with the kids :)

We are going to Long Island for Christmas!!! We booked our hotel rooms on Long Island Sound. We’re very allergic to cats, and my nephew’s cats LOVE me, so I can only handle a few hours in their house. Port Jefferson Village lights are magical at Christmastime, so it will be fun to stay in town on Christmas night.

We are home for Thanksgiving, so I am cooking everything. My specialty is homemade apple crumb pie.

Parent/Teacher conferences were the worst! And Student Council, bless their hearts, always wanted to provide us with cookies, brownies and other junky snack food. Of course, the men loved it! I avoided the faculty room like the plague. After we retired a few of us brought in cheese and crackers, hummus and vegetables and some other appetizers for our colleagues still working. And a bag of dark Dove chocolates!

My mom was like this years ago. She has never been a good sleeper though. When she would get up her vision was blurry and she was off the rest of the day. The doctor told her it was because after she would go back to sleep she was not going through a whole sleep cycle. I have the same thing as well. My eyes will be blurry all morning if I go back to sleep for an hour or so. So now I just get up (well I stay in bed) and play a game or something on my phone until I need to get out of bed. This seems to help.

I have a few woohoos today. First, my mom told me this past weekend that she can tell that I have lost weight. Last week DD told me that I was going to need to get knew clothes because I have lost so much weight. DH has been telling this for awhile but I tend to brush him off more and not believe it. My mom and DD are both brutally honest when it comes to this so I was really happy to hear this.

Second, My winter coat that really didn't fit last year, but I made it work, fits this year and comfortable. Also, I had to start wearing a belt with the jeans that I just got over the summer. They are now just a tad to big.

Third, I am done Christmas shopping for DD and half done for DS. I also have most of the rest of the family done too. I should have it all done by the weekend after Thanksgiving. This is a first for me. So excited to be done so early.

Fourth -- This weekend I bought a day/trundle bed for DD for Christmas. I spent more money then I had planned and got the one I told her was too much. I got it from IKEA so it wasn't a bad price. She will get it today when it gets delivered but will have to wait until next week when I am off to put it together. We also got a long dresser and 2 night stands for DH and I. The tall dresser was out of stock and they said they were not going to get in back in until like Dec. 21. To my surprise yesterday in was back in stock and I was able to get it delivered. I will get everything but the tall dresser today and the tall dresser will come on Tuesday. We will get everything built next week. Then while we are off for 2 weeks at Christmas we will paint our room (for the first time. We have been here for 17 years and we still have white walls) and shampoo the carpets. I can't wait for it all to be done.

Catching up...

Headed to my Sister's for Thanksgiving where it will just be the three of us. I'm taking a Broccoli Salad and Pumpkin Pie for dinner and Muffins for breakfast the next morning. Last time I cooked Thanksgiving was 2019, we had other plans but my Brother had just passed away so I threw it together last minute and it was the first year where I actually had the right amount of food and I stuck to the classic basics because I didn't have weeks of lead up to over-think/over-plan it. I tried to 'influence' my Sister to take the same approach this year, but I'm pretty sure there is going to be way too much food. Doesn't
mean I have to eat it tho, and the leftovers will be in her 'fridge not mine.

Time change has also hit me hard this year, I think because when it changed we were at the beginning of the string of bad storms so haven't seen the sun at all most days. We finally had a
reprieve yesterday and today, but there is bad flooding in the northwestern portion of the state. It is really devastating.

Woohoo... well, as mentioned we are currently not under a storm assault. There is rain forecast
tomorrow, but just regular rain not another atmospheric river event. Hopefully the rivers have receded enough to take in a bit more water. Then Fri/Sat should be dry again.

Woohoo... I love the wreath I built myself. I am so happy with it that I've been opening the front door just to look at it.

Woohoo... I've been pretty good at doing my morning pages.
