November - swimming weather?

Hi,
I understand the pools at WDW are heated.
We'll be staying at YC and I really want to relax at STB.
What would you say the chances are of me being able to hang out
in the lazy river between 11/9 and 15/14?

Also, what does everyone do if it's a rainy day?
Still visit the park(s) w/a raincoat? Do some rides shut-down?

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Average temp is in the 70's for that time of year. So you should be able to go swimming comfortably. Of course, the weather down there can be wacky.

It can be hit and miss in the fall. I've been there in October where it was way too cold to swim and in November when it was great swimming weather. Best to look at the forecast in advance to give you an idea of the temps for that week.

As for rain it's a great time to hit Epcot or magic kingdom. The rain tends to keep the crowds away and those two parks have a lot of shelter to hang out in and most of the ride lines are covered. Just take a poncho and a good attitude and it can be fantastic!

November is the dryest month of the year in the Orlando area. I wouldn't be too concerned about getting lots of rain.

Average high is around 80, average low is around 60.
That should be fine for swimming.

Keep in mind, though, the temperature on any particular day is highly dependent on the timing of cold fronts moving through. By November, the cold fronts are getting powerful enough to sometimes make it down to Orlando. If one just moved through, it may be in the mid to upper 60s for a day or 2. If one hasn't been through for a few days, the high can be in the low to mid 80s.

If you are going to be at Disney World for a week that time of year, you are likely to have at least a few nice days for swimming.

Depends on what you feel swimming weather is. Also, it can be as warm as upper 80s in November, or as low as 50s- temps in FL are very unpredictable in late fall. We have been to WDW when it was definitely warm enough for me to swim (mid 80s or up). There were also times when I would have been chilly- but there were always plenty of people in and around the pools. As you said, the pools and watermarks are heated, so if you want to swim, you can, even if the air temps are chilly. Unless there is a real cold snap, you should be comfortable swimming during early November, as long as you are fine in temps around the mid 70s or above.

Rain- most attractions stay open, but there are some that can't operate in heavy rain/lightning or high winds. Mostly the outdoor attractions like Big Thunder Mtn, stunt shows at DHS, and Test Track. When we get caught in the rain in the parks, we pull out our rain ponchos and keep going. We always bring them with us, just in case we might need them.

We were there the week before Thanksgiving and were disappointed with the weather. Temps were good for the parks, but it was cloudy most days and I often wore a sweatshirt with capris. A little chilly for swimming. I've also read pools are heated, but either the heater in the quiet pool at CSR hadn't clicked on or it's not heated because it was COLD one morning when we tried to use it.

It also rained about half the time - we invested in the ponchos they sell at WDW and found them worth the money if you want to actually stay dry while touring. Most of the rides and queues are indoors, so it's only necessary when going back and forth. Nothing ever shut down - my understanding is that only happens if there's bad lightning around.

Our experience with the weather is one, but it can definitely vary that time of year so be prepared for either warm or cold!

Rain keeps the people away which makes it easier to get on rides. :cool1: Just hope it isn't lightning then stuff starts shutting down. (Getting hit by lightning would make for a very un-magical day.)

Temps in November tend to be good for swimming. Depends on clouds or not. Considering your listed from Upstate New York it should feel warm in Florida by then. :thumbsup2

We stayed at AKV last November. We had nice weather (70s) but the water was too cold for me at the Kidani pool. I read that the pools were heated but this one did not feel like it at all. But there were a few people in the pool.

Hopefully not hijacking your thread...but interested too in these responses and wanting to tack on follow up question for early December.

We are planning a trip from end of November to early December and wondering if temperatures vary that much from beginning of November to beginning of December?

Thanks!

November
Average high temperature: 78.5 F, 25.8 C
Average low temperature: 57.5 F, 14.2 C
Average precipitation: 2.30 in
Average humidity (1pm): 56 percent
Record high (1980): 89 F
Record low (1981): 35 F

Many Central Floridians feel that November is one of the best months of the year to visit the theme parks and other Orlando attractions. Pleasant temperatures in the 70’s F and low precipitation (average is 2.30 inches) combined with low crowd levels (except for Thanksgiving week) make for an awesome month to visit Orlando.

Tip: A light jacket or sweatshirt may be needed at night so place them in a locker as you enter the parks and retrieve them when needed later in the day.

December
Average high temperature: 72.9 F, 22.7 C
Average low temperature: 51.3 F, 10.7 C
Average precipitation: 2.15 in
Average humidity (1pm): 57 percent
Record high (1978): 90 F
Record low (1983): 20 F

The last month of the year will find pleasant and cooler temperatures throughout Central Florida. Rainfall is low with the average precipitation of 2.15 inches this month. Light jackets worn during the day may be needed while a coat may be required at night. Temperatures seem to fluctuate more this month than other months of the year, so you could likely find yourself needing both warm-weather and cold-weather clothing.

Stolen from the Orlando Informer, can't post a link.

We went this past Nov 16-20 it didn't rain until the day we left... Sunny and warm we swam twice at our hotel just because we were so busy doing other stuff.

This pic was taken a week and a half before Thanksgiving last November! It was 79 at 10 am, we went for a dip right after breakfast.

Thanks for the responses, everyone!! :goodvibes

We'll be there for a week - so hopefully I'll get lucky w/a day or two warm enough to swim. Will be prepared for temps between 60-80. It's funny...when it's sunny and 60 degrees here, people are out in shorts & flip-flops. (And man, oh man, did we ever just get through a doozie of a snowy winter!)

Like everyone said, you should be fine swimming at that time of year. I would definitely still go to the parks if it's raining! The only attraction that I can think of that would shut down is Test Track in Epcot, and maybe Big Thunder Mountain in MK. A lot of things are inside and can be a great escape from a little rain or a hot day.
