November 24, 2012 ~ Western Fantasy ~ Pachyderms of the Caribbean

Booked a cabana, Palo brunch, Palo dinner and Remy today.

It's starting to feel real!!

Hi all, we just changed over from RC FOS to this one. We have been on the FOS 5 times so a change was in order. This is our first Disney cruise but we are well established on RCCL. Too bad the perks don't transfer :-(

We reside in Atlanta and are comprised of:
James - 45
Coley - holding steady at 29...LOL
Sophia - 4 and already a seasoned cruiser
Sydney - 2 in Sept and she has been on 3 cruises herself

We would like to be on the FE list, if possible.

Looking forward to it.

We don't know our stateroom yet, but we are definitely planning to participate in the FE program. We are on the roll call list but it doesn't show the FE after our names. Please include us too!!

Sorry!! This "should be" fixed now. . . please check again . . .:confused3

Would like to book a dinner for my husband and I and can't decide if it should be Palo or Remy. What are your thoughts?

We really liked dinner at Palo and it was affordable at $20 per person. Personally I wouldn't do Remy because I think that $150 for a couple is way too much, especially with the premium you pay for a DCL cruise to start with.

But maybe I'm just cheap. :rotfl2:

Palo is a lovely restaurant and the food is wonderful. The food is creative without being so far out that isn't not approachable for most diners. The deserts are amazing! I highly recommend Palo!!!

Remy is a dining experience, not just a dinner. You are there for a good 2.5 to 3 hours. The service is as much as part of the meal as the meal itself. If you are looking for a nice romantic meal but not an dining extravaganza, this may not be the place for you. It is much more expensive and if you add wine, it can easily run in excess of $200. (We rarely get out of there for under $300 with tip.)

Also, don't forget to tip your servers as if you were actually purchasing a full meal there, rather than the small amount you paid for the up charge. They do no work in main dining, so they do not get the automatic gratuities that are added to your bill. (So the tip also has to be taken into consideration when figuring out how much you are willing to spend extra after booking an expensive cruise).

My husband and I love food and dining, so Palo and Remy are must dos when we cruise, but we don't do many (or any) excursions, so that is where our extra money is spent.

Totally new to disboards! Taking a girls trip for our first Disney Cruise! Me, my 6 yr old, and my mom. SOOOO excited! Looking for info about the fish extenders and what all is involved in that and other tips that we need as newbies!

Welcome aboard!! :wave2:

The FE doesn't have a whole lot of rules!! :cheer2:
  • You can bring a gift for each person in the stateroom, or one for the whole stateroom!
  • You can buy something or make something!
  • It can be something only available in your area, or just something you like!
  • You can deliver all gifts in one day or spread it across the cruise!
I'm guess with a 6 year old, she would have fun delivering the "gifts", so you might want to spread it across several days (such as each morning before breakfast we deliver 5 gifts).

It really doesn't matter what the gift is. . . returning to your room and seeing something in there just makes the cruise that much more special!!

For some reason the exchange seems to be even more fun if you don't get caught delivering something :thumbsup2

PS - I just wanted to point out that we have a few other girls around your daughter's age. . . you might want to plan to meet some of them at our DIS Meet (11/24/2012, 3:00 PM, Vista Cafe), and then she might feel more comfortable staying in the kid's club (of course, then you might not get to see her!!).

How can I bring all those big FE gifts if I can't pack too much? :–)
Seriously though, not packing much is so true...we are down to almost nothing these days...but we do bring a medical kit (long, crazy story...hint: avoid the ship doctor even if you drank and ate too much the night before!)

During our last cruise, I actually mailed our FE gifts to the ship along with our water shoes. :thumbsup2

Welcome aboard. While not a complete "newbie" this will be the first time we've experienced FE as well. Jon gave me a great link to what FE is back on page 20 of this thread at post #297. They also have several postings on the main board of FE gift ideas. The DW and I are really looking forward to this new experience. We decided to try to do a door magnet as well which is also something new for us on a WDW cruise.

Jon gets credit for that? :sad2:

I do not take credit for that. dizney-cruiser posted it on the first page. I just re-posted.

Now Janice, I gave Jon credit for posting the link,:rotfl2: not for the excellent information, pictures and detail that you supplied. :thumbsup2 My thought was that if you were going to look for the link it would be helpful to know who's posting to look for. However, I ask for forgivness for my oversight :worship: and significant failure to acknowledge the true author of the outstaniding FE information. Guess I better find a "special" FE gift to put in your stocking ;):
