November 2020 Sailing... How confident are you in traveling without a covid19 vaccine in place?

A vaccine is not necessary IMHO to resume cruising. However, there needs to be some sort of medical treatment that prevents the intensive care units from being overwhelmed. I think we'll have that eventually, but November is a pretty optimistic target.

I rebooked for next spring break, and we'll go up to our PIF date to give our doctors and scientists time to solve this. I'm not optimistic, but I'm hopeful.

Thanks for your input... I really hope so too... I pray that the virus would just somehow dissipate so we can move on with our lives... with or without a vaccine... Yes I’m trying to be optimistic here lol... keeping hope alive and I’m glad some people share the same sentiment... we just have to wait and see

If they are sailing, I'm going. I've got a November cruise planned, and am planning on going. Of course, I also have a June vacation planned to Europe and I am planning on going there too... just need the airplanes to keep flying.

I suppose it depends on how urgently the money is needed and what kind of deal I got on the cruise in the first place. If the money is needed then just go ahead and free it up now (well start the process to free it up). If you can ride it out and you booked opening day or got opening day prices, then ride it out and make the decision closer to PIF. If you didnt get a great deal and paid significantly more than opening day you may wish to cancel now and reshop the cruise closer to embarkation day.

But I am partial to a good road trip that ends at a beach. Ever tried the Keys?

no we haven’t and we’re new to cruising... booked at 15 months out so I think it’s still pretty good lol. Don’t need the money yet and hopefully it stays that way... thanks for the input!

No, no kids, and yes, that's a big difference. My sister is joining me, as usual. Sisters by birth, best friends and travel partners by choice!

I worry about that too... my Nov DCL cruise group does not seem to be worried at all since it’s still several months away that’s why I wondered if I’m the only one who’s concerned... at least out loud

We are not comfortable until a vaccine. We are in the concerned age group. We’ve already had our April cruise canceled by dcl. We plan to cancel our b2b in September, my daughter plans to cancel her September cruise (she’s was only doing our first cruise). We most likely will cancel our January cruise (or push it further out). Thinking maybe it’s time to dump all my cruise funds into a kitchen or bathroom remodel this summer. I love cruising, so this hurts, but our safety is top priority for us. We cruised 5 times in 2019 and 4 times in 2018. We at least got one cruise this year in January 2020. We hope to be back when it’s safe to do so. We are not florida residents, so a lot of planning goes into our trips, esp lodging (DVC). So now we’re only at cruise #23 and holding.

I would be concerned. Regardless if you feel you personally are safe, the minute someone on the ship is diagnosed then your entire itinerary will be changed and you may be prompted to return back to the US.

That's because most places are actually doing a pretty good job of staying home and flattening the curve. Remember, if it works, it will SEEM like we overacted.

That doesn't surprise me at all. Based on the protests in some cities, people aren't taking COVID seriously. My family has been doing everything we can but I know a lot of people aren't. Those are the ones who scare me.

I'm not scheduled for another cruise until next July so it's not something I have to really think about at this time, but having been on the WBPC cruise that had to skip ports due to the virus spreading around the world and the US, I think I'd skip a cruise unless the virus was under control in most areas. It sucks missing your ports even though we had a great time on the ship. We were also lucky that we were able to get back to San Diego, and that my family stayed healthy throughout the cruise (and after). It could have gone much differently!

I share your views. I live in the dc metro area, and it’s crazy. I live in WV and while most seem to take it seriously, we seem to have many conspiracy followers who think this is a hoax. We live close to the VA and MD borders so we are surrounded by a variety of politics and different governors views. Our governor here in WV is an buffoon. my Daughters were sweating as of yesterday until They officially closed schools here in WV for the remainder of the year. my son-in-law has been quarantined once already. He’s in law enforcement/k9 officer. He was fine, but worry every day about his exposure.

My hope is that things go back to being relatively normal over the summer in terms of being able to shop in public, go back to work and school, etc. If that happens and if things stay relatively calm, by November I will feel ok to go with no vaccine. But if we’re still wiping down groceries with Clorox wipes and hearing about grocery workers dying, it’ll be a no-go.

I agree. And here in CT, it hasn’t been pleasant even though we seem to be having some success flattening the curve. I’ll be surprised if we start opening up before June. Hospitals are still accepting donations.

Good point, thanks! hopefully there won’t be a second wave of infection as CDC is predicting
