Nov 2010 -- Even our Stroller has Christmas Lights! New 12/22 Lessons Learned #222

The villa at SSR looked charming, I like the decor. Love the lights on the stroller, what a novel idea :thumbsup2

I think it was a wise choice staying late at OL until most of the people cleared out for the night seems your trip got off to a good start

SSR did feel really "home-y". Normally I like more of an exoctic feel like I'm actually away from home ... but this was nice and relaxing, esp after the hustle of the parks.

Yeah, I think the stroller lights is a great idea!

I'm VERY impressed with the SSR pics. I never would have thought of staying there, but with a car, it seems like a super nice place, still on-property - kinda like a rental home.

Can't wait to read more!

DH gets all the credit for the stroller lights! He wanted to surprise me with them. I just wished he would have told me in advance so I could let others know to look for us as they were very noticeable.

Yes, I'd definitely want a car at SSR, but then again we like having a car even at BLT or BCV. With 2 small kids and strollers, it just seems more work waiting for a bus and getting on it while holding your strollers, packages, diaper bag, etc.

I would love to try Beach Club. It would be so cool to be able to walk epcot:)

Yeah, it really is neat seeing everyone grow up :cutie:

Yeah, it's only because of DVC that we can do the deluxe resorts. I think it finally sank in this trip that we made a wonderful decision to purchase DVC -- we can go each year or save up for a big vaca every other year and have the extra room.

I really felt this trip that we slowed waaaaaay down and weren't in the hustle and bustle this time. Now Jerry, would say, "did I go on the same trip?":lmao::rotfl2:

Looking forward to hearing about all of your adventures.

Osbourne Lights sounds like the perfect start a vacation and I can't wait to hear more

We were only going to be at WDW for 4 nights and I had 4 things I wanted to do at night. So, I was really pushing to go to the park tonight. We chose Osborne lights to start our merriment.

As you can see, it definitely cleared out after we ate dinner. We decided to stay until they kicked us out. So glad we did, b/c Rachel and Elie could just run around in the street. The lights stopped at 9:30pm.

Elizabeth is enjoying the Mickey Train. Now what is also cool about this pic, is that you can see how we decorated our stroller for Christmas! yes, we had a set of battery-operated LED lights to go on both strollers! We got tons of compliments on that ... and were the only ones to have it!

Welcome!! Yeah, OL really gets you in the festive mood. And when you hear the music and see the dancing lights...I actually starting crying a little bit b/c it got me all flustered -- a good fluster!

Thanks! We have more pics and I can't wait to make my digital scrapbook and use them as background pages for my pics on Picaboo.

Yes, when we arrived around 6:15pm it was jammed pack. I should have taken a picture of how crowded it was but honestly, I would not have been able to get my camera out. At times, we just stood there b/c we couldn't get our stroller through.

That's when we decided to go get some food (also the food was going to shut down in for the night) and come back later. We walked in and it was like "Ahhhh, I can breathe!" We were going to leave after 15 minutes or so, but then the girls started playing and we just went and saw everything for a 3 and 4th time.

Next time -- make sure you stay! They also play a Disney radio station (fake one, not Radio Disney, I think) and had the mad scientist guy from Phineas and Ferb (sorry don't watch the show) mess up all the lights and stuff. It was funny.

Today is sunday, November 21st and original plans were to do nothing in the morning ... but the girls woke us up at 7:21am. Rachel got Elizabeth out of the Pack-n-Play, so Jerry and I get up about 10 minutes later. We shower, eat frozen waffles and fruit and head off to MK.

9am -- I got us lost. Somehow we missed the exit for MK. A bus must have blocked the sign and we forgot to turn. Oh, well. Try again.

9:10am -- we got lost again. HUH????????? Jerry and I have been to WDW about 15 times since 1997. What's going on???

Somehow, coming from SSR just messed up our sense of direction. So we ended up going the back way ... which means we saw Best Friends Pets and Golden Oaks. We go through Ft. Wilderness and around past the Poly where Rachel and I now have to go to the bathroom, so we decide to just stop in and check out the Poly.

We also keep the back way in mind as we need to go to Ft. Wildnerness in 2 days.

After the bathroom and checking out the gift shop, we head over to MK. By now it's after 10am so I rush over to get a FP for Space Mountain and meet up with Jerry and the girls to see the Fairies.

Now in July we met Tinker Bell, Iridessa and Fawn. So I'm really hoping we'll get new autographs, particularly Vidia.

The line is 60 minutes so I go over and start asking people who are leaving the characters who they just saw. Turns out Vidia is one of the fairies, so we decide to stay and wait. I go back out of the line to grab Elizabeth's milk and some snacks for the girls to eat while waiting ... and waiting ... and waiting.

Man, it was a l-o-n-g wait.

Then I hear "Marsha, is that you?" I turn around and find my friend Laurie I used to play volleyball with. She lives in DC and I'm in VA so we don't see each other often anymore since we play in different vball circles. But what a small world!

She is there with her daughter Rachel (4) for the first time.

Oh, she should have let me know whe was coming -- I could have helped her plan things. Laurie said she was feeling very overwhelmed. They didn't plan anything and were only doing MK for 2 days.:scared1::confused:

Finally it's our turn and I am soooo delighted and happy to see that Vidia is stil there that when we get to Rosetta who is first, I call her Fawn!

Well, she let me know that she is not Fawn and that Fawn is probably off training skunks or something and she, Rosetta, smells a LOT better!:rotfl2:

DSC_0131.jpg

As we approach TB, I kindly remind her that she has already signed our book back in July, to which she says she remembers! Perfect! Rachel is happy to see Tink again. and Elizabeth doesn't mind her too much.
DSC_0142.jpg

Next is Vidia, and she is a sassy little fairy! She really, loved the autograph page I made for her (I do too!) and talked about it a lot. She also let us know that she IS the fastest flying fairy!
DSC_0156.jpg

It was about 11:30am and we decide to get some food before it gets too crowded. So we head over to Pinocchio House but they have the new rules in effect, so you can't get a table until you have something in your hand from the food counter. So I order food and Jerry waits with both girls.

i know it works better this way to find a table, but there are lots of people now milling around and the girls just want to sit down. We order meatball sandwiches and mac-n-cheese, fruit and water. Well, when I said water, I meant just a cup of water ... I look and I got charged $5 for water bottles. Argh. Get back in line to redo the order.

i just can't see paying $5 for something you can get for free.

We get a table in the area overlooking the IASW boats and once a window table opens up, we switch tables and the girls are loving it! They are waving and wavig to everyone.

We noticed that they changed the line for IASW. Previously you would board the boats on the near side and then exit on the far ramp. Now you go through all the lines on the near side, cross over the bridge and down the ramp on the far side and then exit the boats on the near side.

This makes a lot of sense ... but now the line is deceptively longer.

After lunch, we head over to Country Bears and I go get a FP for Splash Mountain. We walk right in CB and Elizabeth and Rachel enjoy the show. We do too. It's just corny fun.

Next we decide to do Space Mountain with our FP and as we walk over we see the Santa sleigh in front of the Xmas shop. Great picture spot!
DSC_0166.jpg

DSC_0171.jpg

As we walk, it starts to rain. Everyone is surprised b/c there was no rain forecasted for today. I overhear a maybe 7 year old boy ask his mom, "Does it rain in Disney World?"

I thought this was the funniest thing. Yes, even Disney can't control the weather ... yet!

Elizabeth is tired and about to fall asleep and it's still raining lightly, so we head to the PeopleMover and ride it.

Elizabeth loves this
DSC_0177.jpg

and so does Rachel (note her Girl Scout Daisy Doll mascot)
DSC_0196.jpg

Soon Elie is asleep, so I get off and go on Space Mountain while Jerry stays behind and rides a 3rd time with the girls. Then he meets me at the arcade and we switch.

I love Space Mountain and it's just a lot of fun. I ride, look at my picture and then leave. Upon the exit, someone comes over to me -- it's the guy in the front of the space mountain car -- and says, "hi! I'm Mike your Lawn Maintenance guy!" Wow! Another Small World moment --and I even sat in the same car with him and looked at his picture...

Hmmm, maybe if he had his ball cap, sunglasses and riding mower I would have recognized him!!:rotfl2:

Rachel enjoys looking in the arcade (we didn't play at all) and doesn't want to leave. So I ride Space Mtn on our 3rd FP and Jerry convinces Rachel to go to Jungle Cruise boats. The line is long but Rachel decides she wants to do the coin-operated little boats instead. They don't work too well and she is upset.

I suggest they ride Aladdin together and I'll go with Elie who is still sleeping to get a citris swirl. But they don't have them any more. They switched it to something else (can't remember, maybe a smoothie?) so I just skip it.

Finally, it's time to leave but we still need to do Splash Mountain.
(cont'd in next post)

Now remember in my July TR, that I had to literally drag RAchel on Splash Mtn and then the next day she was begging to go back on? We changed our day around so she could do SM again. Then for the next 4 months we hear, I want to do Splash Mountain, 4, no 5, no 20 times in a row!! Oh, and don't forget about our Splash Mountain day. If you haven't seen this, go back to post #2 table of contents and check it out. We had an entire, very fun, Splash Mountain day in August.

So, now I have 3 FPs for Splash Mountain and I did not tell Rachel b/c I wanted it to be a surprise. With Rider Switch, she can go on multiple times!! I'm the best mommy in the world, right????

Nope. Rachel doesn't want to go on. I tell her that if she doesn't, then we are going back to the room for naps. This is the last ride and probably are last chance to ride SM this entire trip.

nope, she's not having anything to do with it.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

What is going on? So Jerry and then I take her individually and try to find out what is wrong. She won't tell us.

Finally, I mention that at the end of the ride, she can do the Press Penny and I'll protect her from getting wet, and now she wants to ride.:confused3

We watch the end of the parade on the way over and then we ride Splash Mountain. I'm not worried about getting wet b/c when we rode in July we didn't get that wet at all, and it was hot out.

Surely, they have the jets pumped down for November!!???

Well, my entire right side was pretty wet if not soaked in some places. Part of that was because I bent over to protect Rachel from getting wet. Just like thegood mommy I am! (hee hee) It's warm out ...but not when you are wet.

We let the girls play on the playground, and then take the train back to Main Street.

Take the boat back to Poly and let Rachel play on the Hammock for a few minutes
DSC_0200.jpg

and go straight to our dinner ressies at the Turf Club at SSR. I had heard great things about this place, esp the NY Strip. Folks on the SSR thread said it was better than Le Cellier.

Well, our meal was fine ... not great. My steak was 1/2 wonderful and 1/2 so fatty I couldn't eat it. But we were all hungry from a very long day and needed the food.

We head back to our room, change into warmer clothes and take the boat over to DTD. Elizabeth screams almost all the way. She is just tired and finally falls asleep in the stroller.

We go directly to Santa's Chalet and while waiting in line, Elie wakes up and is in a better mood. But wants nothing to do with Santa. I wasn't going to make her sit on Santa's lap but he said, let me try, so we did.
LifeiscruelSanta.jpg

(I actually entered this picture in a Scared of Santa radio program...who knows, maybe I'll get the most votes! It's just a great photo. She is just sooooo sad and can't get away from him.)

Here is our Family Picture. Note Elie:
DSC_0213.jpg

After Santa, we went in Ghiradelli for our free candy (Elie snagged Jerry's!) and Once Upon a Toy. we stop at the Lego Playground and Elie goes up and down the slide over 15 times! She is just giggling and playing and loving it! Rachel builds Legos and then plays on the slide too.

However, when it's time to go, Rachel has a full meltdown and screams almost the whole time on the way back.

Jerry and I just look at each other and somewhat cry, somewhat laugh.

Elizabeth screamed on the way to DTD and Rachel screams on the way back.

Sigh.

Thankfully, the boat is there and the captain gives the girls a bandana and bubbles to stop the crying.

We drop Elizabeth's favorite teddy bear in the middle of the street going back to our rom. Crap. Where is it?

As I go back to find him, a very kind man comes toward me holding our bear. Evidently he walked for 2 blocks trying to catch up with us!

Kudos to him for his generosity and persistence! We never heard him calling us.

Back to the room and Bed.

==================================
Ok, looking back on this day, I see that we did NOT have a relaxing day. I totally forgot about how long this day was. We went from 7:30am to 10:30pm. YIKES!!!!:scared1:

wow...what a small world. How funny you ran into two people you know. Did you give your Volleyball friend any tips to try and make her trip better?
Sounds like a long day

that picture with sant and elle is hilarious

Love the pics of you and girls with santa sleigh :santa:

I hate to say it but if I had kept going that many hours in the park I would have been melting down too. You know Kacy is not overly wild about SM herself and it is the getting wet thing.

How nice of that gentlemen, that just proves my thought that there are more good people than bad in our world.

Thanks -- I like the pic of us on the sleigh, too. I have one of all 4 of us but the person that took it moved the camera so it's all blurry:mad:

No, I didn't offer any advice to Laurie b/c she already knew about FP and she said they were just planning to do the parades and see some characters. She sounded like she knew what she wanted and didn't want to change anything. So that's fine. I think they were just really overwhelmed and by the time we met, they just needed to step back a bit, ya know?

It's funny. I totally don't remember this day as being exhausting! I get so pumped on adreneline that I seem to go and go and go. Now I understand why Jerry was in a funky mood and both girls had meltdowns.

Me? I wished I could have stayed longer at DTD and shopped. To me, it really felt like we were taking it easy! It was only when I read back my notes, that I was like, woh!

I told DH this and he doesn't believe how I didn't realize this.

I swear, I run on Mickey Time Zone when I'm at Disney!

Today is Monday, November 22nd and we wake up at 7:13am to Elizabeth crying, "mama mama". then we hear Rachel tell her, "go back to sleep, it isn't morning yet!"

This is really funny b/c it is exactly what we say to Rachel when she wakes us up and we just want to sleep!

I get up and find that Elizabeth has taken off her PJs and is so proud of herself for doing so!:rotfl: We eat eggs and sausage for breakfast, shower and then leave for Epcot at 9:20am.

Not bad at all considering our busy day yesterday.

We walk through Innoventions but decide not to do the activities. We go on Nemo and check out the animals. Elie loves the eels and is afraid of the dolphins since one swam right past her!

We get our Traditional Family Photo at Imagination's Fountain:
DSC_0245.jpg

And then go on Figment. Elie loves running around on the area that makes sounds. We play in the fountains a bit and Rae gets wet but laughs it off (yeah!)

Off to the Land to ride the boat (20 minute wait!) and Elie falls asleep. We eat lunch at Season (salmon, mac-n-cheese) and put Elie down on a booth to sleep.

Then off to meet Duffy Bear. Elie is just in love with him. But, then again, who doesn't love a big teddy bear (Pooh, excepted of course!)

You can just see the anticipation in Elizabeth's face and stance as she waits to meet Duffy!
DSC_0264.jpg

DSC_0272.jpg

It's hard to tell in the pic but Elizabeth is just loving him and smiling all around
DSC_0288.jpg

After Duffy, I go into the shop that sells 'everything Duffy' and check out prices. It is reasonable, for Disney, and decide I will get a Duffy bear for Elizabeth for Christmas. but I won't buy it now b/c we'll be going to DTD again and I'll just buy it there instead. Remember this for later ...

So we head back to SSR. I try to go the back way into SSR and miss my turn...again. Another U-turn and then we are back at SSR.

I don't know what it was about me missing my turns at Disney!

Oh I am thrilled that Elizabeth liked Duffy. You can tell she was excited to get up there and see him. She looked enthralled with him.

Yes, she loved him! the first thing she did was give him her teddy bear to hold!

Oh and the line for Duffy was very short. maybe about 4 families ahead of us...so I'm not sure if people don't know who he is yet or if he just isn't popular ... yet!

I hope he is popular enough they bring his girlfriend over. I think her name is Maggie. I hope you don't mind but I borrowed your two pictures of her and Duffy and shared them with a friend who is a CM in DCA that absolutely loves him. She has a Duffy that she takes to the Parks with her and does her trip reports around Duffy's travels.

And honestly I have a friend getting me one when she goes for New Years Eve trip. I love him.:lovestruc

No problem! I have more pics of Duffy if you want to see them!

I heard Duffy's girlfriend is named Shellie or Shellie May.

He is really adorable!! And at Epcot, they have all these outfits for him, one from each country represented as well as other outfits like baseball player, etc.

This is a link to Jasmine's thread so you can see her Duffy stuff.

I would love to see all of your pictures. Are you kidding me? I showed all three of my kids the pictures and the Santa picture and they all said "awwww".:goodvibes

Oh and you know, you are right about her name.

aww....Duffy is so cute

They are such cute pics with Duffy and girls

:goodvibes

OMG those pictures are great! Elie has gotten so big and she seems more into the characters for sure. Love her pigtails

Awww, Duffy is so cute and Elizabeth is even cuter! I loved that Rachel told her to go back to sleep. It's funny when you hear them telling someone else what you usually say to them :rotfl:

I have a problem with wrong turns at Disney too! We have been places I did not know exist on several trips

Great updates! I already mentioned this on the other thread but I think that pic of you and the girls at the sleigh is so good!

She definitely liked, or at least tolerated the characters more this time than in July. She also really liked to hand her teddy bear to them to see.

Soon, it'll be time for me to make her Disney Autograph book ...

Glad I'm not the only one who got lost at Disney! I'm thinking b/c we were just there in July we sort of had the mentality that we *knew* where we were going and didn't pay attention really to the signs. Silly me!

Thanks for the compliments on the sleigh pic! I like it too!
