Not Using MM Crazy?

Going for my first trip May 14-17 (Park days 15/16). We're staying at the DLH, so we have access to MM. Originally, we were going to do the 15th at DCA because Monday has the MM and then 16th at DL for MM. But for a couple reasons, we might have to switch those days and do DL then DCA so that we could see WOC. If we get there at Rope Drop and stay till close essentially, would we make up not being there for MM? Has anyone been that week or around in recent years it and can approximate when the park will open/close because that will also decide things. Any tips appreciated!

Do you not have park hoppers?

We were not planning on getting them, so we could save a little bit of money and since this is our first trip to DLR, we wanted to really absorb the surroundings instead of going back and forth. We discussed if we liked DLR, next time we'd get park hoppers.

Sometimes it's actually better to go to the park at rope drop that doesn't have early entry that day. Depends exactly when the parks open, and when in the year it is.

If your group are early morning people, I would recommend doing early morning. If it's going to be a struggle to get up, then it may not be worth it.

I see hoppers as almost essential at DLR. I know for WDW it's a toss up, but park hopping is so easy it's a shame not to have that option, especially since you only have 2 days. I also think MM is vey valuable.

Monday and Tuesday, when school is in session. Well done!

It really depends on what you want to do. If you want to maximize how many times you can ride Space Mt or Radiator Springs Racers, then magic morning is essential.

If it is a first trip and you want to ride your top 75% most important attractions one time each, just to experience the breadth of offerings, that it may not be as important.

To really help you out, we'd need to know ages, likes, etc.

In the magic morning hour, you could ride Space Mt 4 times. Or, you could do all the Fantasyland rides once each. Or in DCA, you can ride Midway Maina and a couple spins on RSR. Balance that against missing a show, or paying $40 a person more for hoppers. Factor in that gettting there an hour early may mean taking a longer break mid-day or leaving earlier (that far out, park hours aren't posted, so I can't see when it closes...).

Did you check for Grad Nites? They're that time of year and can throw a monkey wrench in plans.

I wouldn't say you where crazy for not taking advantage of using MM but I always take full advantage of MM whenever I stay on property. I typically arrive early before the park opens to check into Grand California (this is where I typically stay) so I can take advantage of MM. Yeah, my room is not ready but I am given my room key and they typically text me with my room number when it's ready. It 'seems that lately with some of the rides closed because of the Star Wars Land construction the park seems more crowded than ever so any advantage I can legally use I will.

I think if we can do MM logistically, we will. There are a couple factors that we're trying to work out. It makes sense that if we went to the opposite park of a MM that it would maybe less crowded to start? I guess we'll see. Thank you!

I think if we ever went back, I would push harder for a park hopper. I'm taking what I can get at this point LOL

That's what we thought, Monday and Tuesday while the kids are still in school! Also, I think personally, we're leaning towards more "ride your top 75% most important attractions one time each, just to experience the breadth of offerings", even though I am a Space Mountain freak in WDW. I am 22, I have a 27 year older sister and two parents, so we're older. I have some medical problems that can limit how early we can get there in the morning. We could 100% do MM in DCA that Monday, but then we couldn't do MM in DL if we wanted to do WOC (which we definitely want to). We could definitely do rope drop for both, so it's a dilemma. I'm more excited for DL, the rest are more excited for DCA. I would love to tackle pretty much everything in DL. If I missed Peter Pan, I wouldnt be crushed because I rode it so many times in WDW, but Id love to hit all of Tomorrowland, the original dark rides, Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder, Matterhorn, Small World, Indiana Jones. I think if the park is open late both nights, we'd rather just do rope drop and then stay later. Thank you so much for your help

We strategically planned around grad nights...a grad night is the 17th, which sort of took away a possible 3rd day because we just read it was STAY AWAY those days.

Grad nites are totally doable! (And definitely ignore crowd calendars, they are notoriously inaccurate for DLR. Just ask here!) But they do require pre-planning. I've done trips over a number of them. I would NEVER give up a day at Disneyland because it's a grad nite :) (Grad Nites do NOT equal Christmas to New Years week!)

If interested... How to deal with Grad Nite: Option 1) do DCA all day and don't go into Disneyland Option 2) Do DLR until early-mid afternoon and then hop over to DCA for the rest of the day/night when crowds get thick in DL. The key is to stay away from DL from 6pm-close as grads flood the park to do all their favorite rides, they then do DCA after it has closed to the general public.
