I'm pretty sure they won't cancel. We were there in February for the Pirate and Princess Party and had the worst storm I've ever seen at WDW. Lightning, downpours, wind. The lightning and wind stopped but the rain didn't and the party went on.
It rained during MNSSHP while DH and I were there last year... there were times it was pouring! The party went on... and we had a blast! Thankfully the rain did not interfere with the fireworks. It did however cause them to delay the late parade and cancel the last meet and greet with the villians. We were pretty wet... but had so much fun! Most people just accepted the fact that it was raining, wore their ponchos and had fun!
It POURED last year when we were there. They announced they were cancelling the parade but there was a rumor that it was actually held later. The fireworks were delayed. A lot of people left very early (there were small streams running through parts of the park). Some people (us included) donned ponchos and continued on. There were a lot of rides that were having mechanical difficulties but we just kept going from one candy station to another. We each got 2 full bags of candy. I think in the end you could get a ticket for another MNSSHP but we were leaving the next day so that did us no good.
We were there for MNSSHP last mid-Sept. and it POURED almost all evening. We managed a few treat stations, but BOTH parades were cancelled due to weather. The water at the bottom of the ramp outside of MK near the ferry was knee-deep!!
They did hand out a postcard at the exit that said if you presented your MNSSHP tickets and the postcard at Guest Relations within the next year, you got a free one day park admission to MK. Since we only come once a year and usually free dining with a package, it amounted to about $6.00 free (the cost of the sixth day admit on the package) for tickets that were $200, but it was something!
We are trying MNSSHP again this year and hoping for great weather!!!
Happened to us. Poured had a shortened version of the parade and fireworks finally about 11:00 that night. Started raining right as party started at 7:00. We really didn't get to do anything because of it and the lightening was bad. You couldn't even get a sit at the CS because everyone was in there hiding out until the storm passed. I was told about the one day passes MK here on the board but some people who complained that night to customer service got tickets to MNSSHP for another night that week or their money refunded (also heard about that here). I called and was lucky enough to get a full refund on my tickets which I used the money to try it again this year. I pointed out to them the same thing another poster said, that it would only amount to a couple of dollars to have MK passes but I knew they really didn't have to do anything for me. Disney can't help the weather but there was not a lot to do if the weather really gets bad. Hopefully we get better weather this year. Hope you do too.
We are waiting to get our tickets until we are there and can see the weather forcast. We are planning on going on our last night and we won't be going back to WDW within the year, so another ticket for another night will do us no good.

I haven't told them yet, I was going to make it a surprise when we got there. We are going in Sept and my TA told me not to worry about it selling out since its pretty early. Now, I don't know what to do

It was sold out when we were in Disney last year (the Sept 13th party-which is really early). And it was sold out before that day. We didn't plan to go because we were flying home that day but the signs definately all said that it was sold out.
If your heart is SET on going and you already have costumes...I would buy tickets and just hope for the best. If you don't...I would wait until a little closer and see if you could get tickets if the weather is forecasted to be ok. Personally, we already bought tickets. If it rains...oh well...we'll wear ponchos over our outfits!!!

Wow, we are planning on going on Sept 26. I don't have costumes yet but Ireally do want to go so I guess I'll just get the tix now. Hopefully if it does rain it won't be a total wash out.
Thanks for replying I never would have thought the early ones would sell out before the date.
It rained when my DF and I went.. actually, it poured. It was a little uncomfortable at first but then we bought ourselves a poncho and had a wonderful time!!
They probably won't cancel the party (unless there's a hurricane- god forbid!) so just try to ignore the rain and have a nice time!
disney hardly even closes. It is so rare that I can only think of two times that it clased. One was September 11th and the other was a really bad storm
