Not really Disney related but I need to decide on a place to stay.

OK, so without getting into too much detail, we may need to go to the MLB Youth Academy in Compton this summer for a couple of days. Anyhow, since I am a DVC member, I thought to save money I could use our points to stay at the Grand California for 2-3 days and drive there and back each day. Problem is, google says it's about a 45 minute drive from Anaheim to Compton and with LA traffic it could be longer. The money I'd save on staying at DL would probably be eaten up by my gas usage for the drive there and back every day.

So I'm thinking it may cheaper to stay at a hotel closer to Compton (yes, we'd have to pay for a hotel but we might use less gas) but obviously I don't want to stay in Compton. So what's the closest nice neighborhood where we can get a nice hotel and not have a crazy drive?

But then I was thinking of tacking on a couple extra days so we could do DL after we finish up our Compton business. Any advice? Thanks.

About 18 miles from Compton is Long Beach. Still heavy traffic (along the 710) but closer. The closer you
get the to beach the more expensive the hotels get. Going east (on the 91) to Redondo Beach is about
15 miles. A nice area and more expensive.

Anahiem to Compton would be 45 minutes with morning traffic, its not that far. You do not want to stay at a hotel in compton

Absolutely not. Just trying to decide if driving from Anaheim would be more economical than staying closer

I think economically it depends on how much you are valuing your DVC points at.

Anaheim to Compton is 20 miles. LB to Compton is 11 miles. Say you get 25 miles per gallon = .72 gallons saved each day round trip. Average gallon of gas $2.8, so you save about $2 per day on gas.

From a practical standpoint, I think Long Beach is probably better, but traffic everywhere down in Southern California is terrible during the commute. You could check Google Maps Monday morning and see what the traffic looks like. The closer you are, the better.

Cerritos is also closer to Compton, and between Compton and Anaheim... you might consider staying there.
