Not in my home (resort)!....Unbelievable event I witnessed at AKV

We drove through the Safari at Six Flags (NJ) a few years ago, and you wouldn't believe what people were feeding the animals --- candy, chips, you name it!

We've stayed at AKV's Jambo house three times. On each visit there was a prominent printed message that cameras are filming the balcony areas 24/7 for the safety of the animals. (Sort of reminding guests to close the curtains before undressing!) I'm sure they have to be wary of unruly guests (adults or children) throwing things off the balconies the animals could eat or intentionally aiming things at at the animals. What a world!

I could have sworn I read that a family was booted out of AKL in the middle of the night because the kids were out on the balcony with a slingshot, trying to hit the animals. Doesn't seem like much difference here. I wonder if there's some rider on the paperwork you sign at AKL/AKV that says you won't interfere with the animals.

It makes sense to me that Disney could evict, or relocate people if they are doing harm.

I'd personally prefer to feed them to the animals, but unfortunately Florida law won't let Disney do either thing.

Eviction is not a decision some night-shift front desk manager at a hotel makes. It's a legal process that requires weeks, sometimes months. Unfortunately, whether anyone likes a guest's behavior or not, renting a room gives them certain legal rights to that property and those can't be taken away without a court process. As a practical matter, the process takes too long to be of any value except in much longer rental situations.

A more realistic option would be to call the police and prosecute the guest, but obviously Disney is not going to do that.

If this becomes a real problem -- rather than something that just offends our sensibilities -- Disney will have to do something to protect the animals, with simply moving them out of range probably the easiest solution.

I'm not normally one to speak up in a lot of situations but if I saw this family I know for sure I wouldn't had been quiet when they were asking for the gun back! AKV is one of our home resorts and we bought there because we love animals. We're not allowed balloons for their safety and I'm more then fine with that. It just angers me when people have no respect for anything what so ever. I understand not being able to evict them but in a case like this I think the hotel should be able to fine the guest for endangering the animals, and not because the kid dropped the gun but because he was shooting at the animals. I mean I'm sure they find a lot of things fallen in the savannah like sun glasses falling off peoples heads from looking over lol. But this kid was intentionally shooting at the animals. I don't know I guess this one just struck a cord with me lol.

Why do they even make toy guns. Why would you let your children play with toys that represent weapons to kill?

I know it's not practical, but my first thought was that the family should have been moved to a standard view room and refunded the points/money difference between std and savanna view. At least then if the kid got the gun back or the family bought him a new one, the animals would not be in danger.

Disney probably can if they contact the right people.

Disney has evicted people - some because they brought their pets to a Disney resort.

others because they acted up in the parks. these are worst - Disney can and will bar you from their parks for your lifetime.

others because they were drunk and were bothering the rest of the resort.

believe Disney has the lawyers to do it.

my guess is these nuts were new DVC members - who Disney does not really want to hurt. Hey they might buy more points.

Years ago I visited the zoo in Beijing... where they sold toy guns right outside the animal enclosures for kids to pretend they were shooting the animals with.

That would have been my solution as well.

Unbelievable! This reminds me of my last stay at SSR, which is one of our home resorts. We were at the the bus stop near a family group that included a Mom, 2 little girls about 7 and 5, and a grandmother. It was December, and there were nice plantings around the bus stop including some pretty blooming plants. The little girls were ripping the blooming plants out of the ground. The grandmother spoke to the girls, telling them to stop doing it. The mother responded by saying "We pay enough for this place, they can do what they want". I was speechless. I'm still mad at myself for not saying something. Like, "I pay quite a bit for this place too - please tell your kids to quit vandalizing!"

I know we sign some sort of thing at check in saying we will NOT drop/throw/whatever anything into the savannas. I would hope with that in place that the resort management DOES have recourse. Behavior like this makes me furious. We are owners at AKV Jambo and Kidani. I think I would be quite vocal about it if I witnessed idiots like this.

OMG that's terrible! I would have said something like - Everyone else pays enough for this place and we'd like to see it the way Disney intended it to look!

I really don't understand the nerve of some people.
