Not happy with purchasing Kingdom Lunch Vouchers (child)

We purchased some adult vouchers and some children's vouchers for use at Le Cellier. The server acted as if she had never seen them before. She called over the manager on duty and he told us we would be able to get only a child's meal (that already came with a beverage) and a child's dessert. I showed him where the voucher said that the child would receive an appetizer. He said that since they don't offer child's appetizers they don't have to provide one. I asked if they could choose an appetizer from the adult menu since the voucher clearly stated they would receive an appetizer. I reminded him that the vouchers were much more expensive than the typical $4.99 kid's meal and I didn't see the value in purchasing it with the kids not getting an appetizer. Still no go. We got up and left. We went to San Angel where we were told the same thing but the manager told us that he didn't have to give us an appetizer for the kids but he would do it anyway. Why would these lunch vouchers be marketed and sold this way if no restaurants even have kid's appetizers on their lunch menus? I find it very deceptive! I would not have paid almost $13 for each of my three kid's vouchers to get $10 of food even with tip included. How convenient for Disney to say that an appetizer is included and then when you get to the restaurants--none of them have a kid's appetizer. We have dined at Jiko and ordered appetizers for the kids (celery and peanut butter type fare) but that is a dinner only location as are the other WDW restaurants that offer appetizers, I think. I'm pretty irritated about the whole thing and I'd like to address this to whoever is in charge of these vouchers. Any ideas? If I had it to do over I would have only ordered adult vouchers. Period. The restaurants will deliver on those as promised.

Sorry to hear LeCellier has returned to their policy of NOT letting kids order an appitizer with this voucher. People reported resently that LeCellier let them order appitizers so I was hopeful the kids voucher was a good deal there. Thanks for the info!

What is the difference in price for a childs voucher compared to an adult? I thought the Q & C vouchers were good for counter service only.
I am sorry that you had such a hard time using the vouchers.

We have only used those vouchers at RFC but they were great. Let us order the entire childs meal from the adult menu. Next time give them a try. Sorry about your problems.

She didn't use Q&C vouchers. She used VKL vouchers for sitdown restaurants. Adults: 30.50 Kids: 12.75

I know different people have had different experiences at Le Cellier regarding the children's appetizers.

I too purchased the child's VKL and used them at RFC. They had to order from the kid's menu but were allowed the appetizer. This was in Sept. 03. When we went in June 03, they were allowed to order from the adults menu and the appetizer, so that was a much better deal.

I won't purchase the child's again, because as you state, their use and value is dependent on who your server is and what manager is on duty. We have only used the VKL's at RFC.

I could easily feed both my boys (5 and 7) with 1 adult VKL, so next time we will go that route.

I really like using the vouchers and have purchased the VKL, the Q&C's, and the Breakfast vouchers.

The Breakfast vouchers are really convenient to use as those are buffetts so you save a little, no hassle, but can leave a nice tip.

The Q&C's I found that we always got our monies worth, even when using them at the Poolside Snack bars. Saved at least $4 on each voucher. Even with the restrictions they have at Beaches n Cream, we still ate well. Pepper Market is Dh's favorite though.

The VKL's we will purchase Adults only and use 2 for each sit down lunch. 2 will cost us $61.00 and that will easily feed the 4 of us.

Not sure who you would contact about the vouchers. Connections purchases these from Disney (I think it's Group Sales) you may try giving them a call, but as with all things Disney, they can tell you one thing and the CM you deal with, will tell you totally different, so you will still be in the same predicament.

I am sorry that the restaraunt didn't stand behind their voucher.

I am glad that you shared this with the rest of us. I was going to buy the kid lunch voucher, but think I will save myself the frustration.

:sunny: Sorry for the bad experience you had. I would contact the company (a supervisor) that sold me the vouchers and insist on a refund. You did not get what was advertised on the voucher & therefore your money needs to be returned to you. ::yes:: The company you purchased them from should stand behind their product. Report them to the Better Business Bureau if you are not satisfied. Be firm with them, but kind.

I too, have purchsed these lunch vouchers, but intend on using them at RFC.

Good luck and please let us know how you fare if you decide to contact them. :sunny:

Good luck!

I had the same problem with LeCellier in November. The waitress was told by the manager that we couldnt get an appitizer but ultimately they let us order the cheese soup for him with the child voucher.

I dont think I will buy them again for anywhere else then the RFC.

France also wouldn't let the children order an appetizer last year. No problem at the Brown Derby, they allowed an appetizer and regular desert item from the adult menu. I didn't find that the voucher was a cost savings for my son. But the Adult Kingdom voucher was great.

I purchased 27 Q & C vouchers for an upcoming trip. These will probably mostly used by me. I find its cheaper for my very pickey 8 year old to just buy a $4.99 kids meal.

since they are actual *disney* vouchers made by disney to be used at disney it is a case of disney not honoring their own vouchers. the person/company they bought them from has nothing to do with Disney choosing not to live up to what they sold, they were just the middle man. so unless you want to report disney to the BBB imo you are being very unfair to the company that has no control over what the whims of Disney are...unless you want to ruin a good thing otherwise and discourage anyone from selling the vouchers.:)

I thought some have posted before not to bother with the kids vouchers (but since I am not using the kids, I didn't really pay much attention so I could be wrong..).but you know the old saying vote with your feet, if enough people walk out and go elsewhere where they do honor them they'll change their policy since they are losing money.

:sunny: Jann, true. I believe where is a will there is always a way. Even if it is a lesson learned and moving on from that point, okay. I would myself try to mend the situation and contact the seller of the voucher & ask them how I would go about correcting this situation. One can be kind, but direct :sunny: Just my thoughts.:D

I used mine at RFC in November 2003. They let us order off the regular menu with the Kid vouchers as so many here have reported. 4 adults & 3 kids used 2 adult & 2 child vouchers. Plenty of food for all.

Also keep in mind that Disney sells these vouchers for group sales - i.e. a prepaid meal plan for large groups - they are not designed for the way many DISers use them - as a way to save money on meals. They can work fine for that, but that is not what Disney intends. MWI buys these from Disney group sales and resells them - remarketing them as a way to save money.

Maybe it is just me. But if I am buying a kids meal voucher I would only expect to be allowed to order off the "kids" menu. So if that menu does not have an appitizer you don't get one. I guess I feel like people are trying to buy the cheaper voucher and get an adult meal. I can understand why resturants say NO. Several of the Epcot resturants mentioned are NOT owned by Disney and would probably take a loss on the meal if the child was allowed to order from the adult side.

I just don't understand the logic of "I paid for a kids meal, but I am entitiled to an adult meal".

I think the problems lies in the fact that while you "paid" for an appe, entree , dessert and bev.( at least that is what is printed on the adult voucher, do not have a kids one) when you bought the voucher you can not "get" the same thing since the company who made up the vouchers ( WDW) does not offer the appe. for kids at most of the places listed on it! WDW either needs to change the kids voucher to better represent what their rest. offer or give the kids the meal their parents paid for ( ie add a kids appe to the menu or give them an appe listed on the menu) it's not like Disney doesn't "know" what their own rest. offer!..the vouchers are really just prepaid meals. I don't think it is a matter of the parents being at fault here but disney selling you something you have no way of getting! I doubt people would be willing to do that ( pay for something and not get what they paid for) in any other merchant in the real world..I sure wouldn't, in fact aren't there laws about that????

while I do not know who "owns" San Angelo or LeCellier who ever it is had to agree to being listed on the voucher and the funny thing is RFC that I know WDW does not own has been posted as giving the kids adult appes with the vouchers.

Actually since the child voucher states it's good for an appetizer, one should be "entitled" to get what the voucher states. Makes perfect sense to me.

It would be so easy for these restaurants to do just what Jiko and others have done and have kid's appetizers (like apples and peanutbutter or whatever) available then it wouldn't be an issue and they would be sticking to their end of the agreement. My problem is that they are happy to take the vouchers which cost $12.75 and not provide what is clearly spelled out. They don't even want to TRY. It's easier to say you get nothing and then they walk away with more money. Wrong. They should not have agreed to participate in these vouchers if they won't stand behind them. We would have NEVER walked out if they would have said the kids get some childish kind of appetizer (how about applesauce). They would NOT have had to provide the kids with shrimp coctail, KWIM?

Well if this whole argument was just about appetizers I could see it, but.... I keep reading about how people want their child to be able to order the adult desert and even the adult entree. That is NOT acceptable with the child voucher.

To use the Rainforest as your benchmark strikes me as unreasonable. Having eaten out a lot my feeling is that this is one of the worst managed resturant chains in the country. Yes, I could get the adult meal for the child price, but it will take them 2 hours. I have actually eaten at the Rainforest for free several times. (Once they LOST the ticket and once it did take 2 hours and I spoke with a manager. Don't ask me why I keep giving them a chance, I usually get outvoted and at the end of the meal my travel companions say "what's the big deal about this place?")

Sorry, but I think the resturant is in the right here and you don't have much of a leg to stand on. Maybe in the future Disney will change the wording to "If available" and that will satisfy you. The best you can hope for is that if you complain the resturant will come up with a kiddie appetizer. (Like the fruit cocktail on the DCL)

I'll tell you what I wanted. For the nearly $40 I paid for my three kids I wanted more than chicken strips, fries, and a scoop of ice cream. I thought that by me paying this extra money my kids were going to get a special and substantial meal at WDW. Almost $40 bucks. Think about what Le Cellier was going to give me for them. That did not count our adult vouchers.
