:sad2: I have planned and planned. Changed our plans over 5 times. So now I am just gonna cancel our trip this year. I'm tired of us being let down. My husband is in the Army and he just came home today and told me we can't go for our planned trip in August because he has to go away for training. So I'm done. it's just not in the cards for us to go to DL. So now I'm gonna maybe try Disney World for next year.

Thank you for all your help.

I'm sorry things didn't work out for you!!! Hopefully life will settle down & you'll be able to get your Disney-fix!!

Maybe you just need to get the thought-plans in place, and then when a window of opportunity strikes, grab it and GO!

With DLR, as long as you're not going to upgrade to an AP, I believe you can get less expensive tickets on base. So then you just go with a room-only reservation. Pick the hotels you'd like to stay at, research them, get all those thoughts into place. Think about what you would want to do, how you would get around, etc etc.

And then pounce on a travel window. :)

Having just planned and done our first WDW trip, it's a LOT more work! And our WDW trip was in the early planning stages for THREE years before it came to fruition! That was disappointing.

Anyway, Disneyland is closer...take advantage! :goodvibes

(then again, WDW has Shades of Green, which is VERY close to Magic Kingdom, and being able to stay there is a nice perk of being in the military!)

I'm sorry it's not working out for you. :sad2:

But still save for an impromptu DL trip because there will come a time when he'll be back home for a window of time long enough for a last-minute getaway. Here's to hoping! :)

Thanks everyone. It's hard planning anything with the unit he is in. They like to change things last minute. I would do Shades of green if they offered the Disney Dining plan. That is a must for our family. I just done planning any Trip for now. My husbands unit makes it really hard. I think we would rather go to DW anyway. It's our Favorite place. DL was just one of the places because it was so close that we wanted to try. But I grew up going there and DW is where I would like to go. We'll see.

Waving to you in Ft. Lewis from Seattle :yay:

I'm sorry it's not working out for you. It will, only later.
Like someone else said, get your plan in place and then wait for the right opportunity.

It's hard for military families because of the schedule changes, etc. But, it'll happen. Just be patient.

I'm sorry you had to cancel your trip. But please stay positive. Sometimes DL has great offers for last-minute bookings during the off season when they want to fill their rooms. So if your husband comes back during a non-school-vacation time, it might be good to just go then.

Nothing makes you feel better like a big "I'm sorry" from a stranger.. right? :lmao:

Your post just made me so sad. He works so hard to keep us safe and we are all thankful. I'm sure you are Disney bound one way or another soon! I would keep planning (i'm always planning even if I have no where to go!!). Have you thought about maybe taking the kids by yourself this year?

Sending you pixie dust from WDW..

I would also look at a trip that takes much less planning. One thing I learned about disneyland is that really don't need to plan to take a trip. August is really far away from now, and there is no reason to plan that far ahead. That is one of the great things about disneyland--you can decide to go one day, and then then be there the next with no planning whatsoever.

One of the best trips we ever took was last summer (in July) where I decided to go with my girls (two weeks out) and we just did it. We actually got a great rate on the hotel room, and just bought our 3 day parkhoppers. We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel. There were rooms left in many of the hotels on Harbor as well--we could have stayed at the Best Western PPI or Farfield Inn. I know because we did end up going at the last minute a day early and got a room at BWPPI for one night (but they could have taken us for all 4 nights if we had wanted it). The next day we checked into the Disneyland Hotel for 3 nights, and got an amazing last minute deal from Expedia.com.

I have never been a planner for disneyland--we just get our parkhoppers and decided what to do when we are there. This would probably drive others crazy, but it has worked for us all these years. Sometimes I will make one or two dining reservations, but we have even gone with none and still eaten at the same places with no problems.

This is the difference between Disneyland and Disneyworld. You CAN decide to go at the drop of a hat and still have an amazing time. There is no real reason to "plan" so far ahead, unless you just like to.

I agree! The best part of Disneyland is that you don't have to over plan! It can be spur of the moment. ADRs are easy to get, sometimes even the same day! Hotel rooms are plentiful because you don't have to stay on site. Touring can be a natural progression through the parks or a zig zag weave from one E ticket to the next. We usually have days of one followed by a day of the other. Plan to cap each night off with a different night time entertainment choice. The biggest part of planning a DL trip is knowing the Fast Pass system, how to utilize Magic Mornings, and how to get the best spots for shows. Everything else pretty much falls in place. If you memorize Hydro Guys rules you are set.

Put together a rough plan and be ready at a moments notice to just go! SeaTac to LAX isn't a very expensive flight at the last minute either. My SIL and her hubby use it frequently.

I am sorry about the change in your plans. Why not go with your kids only, instead?
I still have my box for y'all. I have been waiting for a good time to send it to you.

Good suggestions, but whatever you decide, I just wanted to thank your husband, you, and your family for the sacrifices you are making for our country. I hope you get to take a great vacation together soon. I wish it was easier for you to do so. :guilty:

You are GREATLY appreciated !!! :worship:

I just wanna give you a big ole hug!!!!!!!!!

My dh was in the Air Force years ago, so I kwym. Planning can be next to impossible!

I also kwym b/c we've been trying to plan a trip for the last year and it keeps getting bumped even though he's a civilian and works for a high-tech company. Between old boss leaving, new boss needing training, coworker on maternity leave, lay-offs, etc. there's just no time. But what does he/we need more than anything? A break at the happiest place on earth!

If there's one thing I hate is being patient. But I guess you and I both need to learn this lesson b/c we're still being asked to be patient.

Another thing...I had to stop coming to disboards for a while b/c it just made me sad to read everything. Maybe a total break would do you some good too. But don't be gone forever b/c we'll want to hear all about your eventual trip!
