Hi all,

I'm 23 days out from my trip that I have waited a year for but I'm not excited in the slightest :(
It's been such a difficult year, final year of uni as a mature student ( finished my finals last Friday!), my gran passing away, my grandad being recently diagnosed with cancer and the latest being my DBF of 4 years and I having such a hard time of it. We have been very rocky since Christmas and in the last two weeks it just totally blew up! If it wasn't for our trip away I think I would have walked away but the trip is making us try and work out the differences....... With all this stuff going on I just haven't got a handle on my weight and am just not happy.
I had visions of this trip being the happiest of my life with me being so proud of myself for qualifying with both a bachelor of science and education..... But I'm not :( it's just so rotten.
I'm all for planning in advance but I hate that life can just throw you so many curve balls that you don't know how to keep going!!

Any ideas on how I can try and get back in the disney mood?! I went croc shopping the other day to try get me excited and well it did for a bit but I dunno!

Any ideas would help! Sorry for the ranty post x

Oh my, what a lot you have had to deal with.

Even without any problems I think a lot of people lose the magic just as the trip is getting very close. Try to look on your holiday as a break from reality.

Don't worry if you are not happy 100% of your time over there as that is an impossible goal just enjoy each hour as it comes.

What do you enjoy best about WDW holidays - perhaps you can watch some youtube videos? Visit a Disney store? Have an American food evening? Lay out your holiday things or start packing them?

Thank you so much for the hug! It was needed :)

Those are some really great ideas, I think even starting to pack might be a good idea....

American food night sounds like fun! Have you done it before? Any good recipes? I know I can find loads online but you know, ones that have been tried and tested!

Eva, so sorry that you are experiencing such a hard time. Just remember that only you can make yourself feel better. No one has the right to make you feel bad about yourself. You are a wonderful person, clever, intelligent, beautiful and wise! Personal relationships aside, you have completed your degree now and you deserve a break from normality. Enjoy your holiday and for a short time put aside all the worries. They will still be here when you come back, refreshed, renewed and more able to cope with them.

Just chill, have a wonderful time, just three weeks away, and remember that we are all here to support you.

Such a fabulous message, thank you so so much :) it really means a lot. You are so right! I'm going to just try and focus on my achievement and try and enjoy my break from reality!!!
What would I do without my dis family!! :) :D

Hugs for you, you've had a really rough time of it.

Congratulations on completing your degree :thumbsup2 and just look forward to having a well-earned break.

To me, US food is a pulled pork burger and sweet potato fries!
What would I do without my dis family!! :) :D

This is why I value the DIS so much, I find it invaluable when I need to off-load but don't want to write it on facebook because don't want family or real-life friends to read it!

Sending you big

I'm sure the closer your holiday comes the more excited you will feel :yay:

You should try and focus on this trip as being a reward for all your hard work in completing UNI and see it as a positive thing :thumbsup2

I'm sure your gran would of loved to of heard all about your holiday and hopefully you will have some fantastic times to tell your grandad about when you get home.

As for you and DBF I'm sure this holiday is just what you need to get you back on the right path (if not then what better place to "window shop" :rotfl2:)

Start making lists (DH says that's my answer to everything;)), clothes your taking, places you want to eat at, rides you want to do, start packing etc, etc & I'm sure that will start to make you feel a little excited :thumbsup2

 I sorry about all you had to go through recently. Is there anything you always wanted to try and that you may be able to organize for Florida? Make a list of firsts. I have been doing this for a while now and this makes me really excited about the holiday. This can be some really small stuff like trying a certain snack or going to a new restaurant.

I too go for pulled pork (I've posted this recipe before):-

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork
Pork Shoulder joint or shoulder steaks (700g serves 3 of us)
I onion
cup of water
barbecue sauce (whichever you like best)

Chop onion and place at bottom of slow cooker
Place meat on top
Add water
Cook for 6-8 hours on low

Remove meat
Keep a few tablespoons of cooking liquid and discard the rest and the onions
Shred the meat using 2 forks (remove any fat)
Return to crock pot with the reserved liquid and half a bottle of barbecue sauce
Stir well
Allow to heat through for 30 minutes or so

Serve with bread rolls or chips

I also make waffles (in a Mickey Mouse waffle iron :))

Waffles

makes about 4 (I usually make double the mixture)

4oz sr flour
half tsp baking powder (not essential)
1 egg
1 tbsp. cooking oil
1 tbsp. caster sugar
quarter pint of milk

put dry ingredients in bowl
add egg and oil
start mixing
add the milk gradually to get a smoothish mixture
don't worry if not completely smooth
cook in waffle iron

I use the same mixture for American pancakes but omit the sugar and baking powder. Cook about a tablespoon per pancake (I get 3 at a time in my pan) when the surface is covered with little air holes it's time to turn them over.

Otherwise I just raid our nearby huge Tesco for American / American looking goodies - cookie dough ice cream, pretzels, Reeses Pieces and anything else that takes my fancy.

I am sorry for everything you are going through. I know when dh was having a tough time and was exceedingly stressed it wasn't until a few days after we got to disney that he relaxed - it was an absolute lifesaver for him to have the break. I hope it will have a beneficial effect for you too - it is such a feel good place. Hugs

Congrats on your educational achievement, that's awesome.
I think life is hardest when you have an expectation of how you're going to feel at certain times and stuff gets in the way, "I'm going on vacation and I just finished school and I should be out of my mind excited!". It's a lame place to be and I'm sorry. You do deserve to be happy and proud and excited.
You mentioned your weight. I don't know what your money situation is but if you can afford it I would consider getting a couple outfits you feel really good in to take on your trip with you. Laying things out to pack always gets me in the mood, too.
I love the idea of making a recipe that ties into your vacation, maybe you could do something related to a favorite Disney movie? Like watching Finding Nemo and eating fish and chips (Fish are food not friends...oh wait...)
As for you and your DBH, maybe you could make a list together of things you'd both really like to do, to get you both excited and on the same page.
Hope you're feeling better soon!

Hi really sorry to hear you've been having such a tough time, well done on finishing your degree. Have you been to Disney before? I always find looking back at photos of previous trips gets me really excited for the next trip when you start reminiscing about past trips you start to remember all the good times you had there and realise why you booked this trip. I'm sure once you are there the magic and pixie dust will take over and you'll have the trip you dreamed of xx

Thank you all so much for your kind words and support, it means a lot :)

My head is just a bit all over the place at the moment and for the first time ever I just don't even want to go...... :(

Breaking out the old photos later so I'm hoping that that might help :)

Ive been really trying to get in the mood for things but it hasn't happened just yet, I have 15 days to go now so hopefully it kicks in in the next week or so :)

I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling so low. :grouphug:

I hope that your old photos have helped. Try watching some youtube videos of WDW too.

I am so sorry you have had such a stressful year. Perhaps the trip itself will put you in the spirit once you arrive! Once you get here and experience all the fantasy of Disney, you can forget all your troubles for a few days. I hope you have a wonderful, wonderful time and are able to put all the stress aside for a few days while visiting Disney!

*Hug* my dad has just been diagnosed with cancer and my relationships died when an ex gf 4 years ago said I have twins then stopped me seeing them because I had university exams, ,my latest gf broke up when she found out so now I'm travelling alone to florida to escape it all so trust me I understand abit what your going through.

I'm upgrading my dad's cruise to a suite and giving him gifts packages in his room when he arrives...this has helped me to come to terms with it as I'm making his later years the best I can before he goes as my dad is awesome. I know it's a lot about me, but I think you might be able to relate and take from it something to help you.
