I want to send my DD and DSIL, on a much needed trip, for all that they are going through, that's if my DD will be up to it, health wise. She has always wanted to go to Jamaica, has anyone ever been , if so what place w/all inclusive would you suggest? Thanks for any ideas, has to be $2,000 or under!!!

Maybe, but would like other option, Thanks

We were in Jamaica for a stop on our first cruise, and we swore we'd never go back. We went to Ocho Rios, and it was beyond poor. It was extremely depressing, too many drug offers (with both of us being cops at the time), and just all around, not too fun. Now, that was us being in the city for a day and 1/2, our ship stayed overnight there.

I know there are other big cities there, and I would guess that the all inclusive resorts would be very nice. But, I just know that I would never leave the resort to see anything there.

Are you looking to send them out of the country? Or anywhere in the US too? I don't know where they live, so there are some nice options within the US too. We have been to, and own a condo, in Sandestin Florida, it's in the panhandle near Pensacola. It's basically a gated community thing, but they have 1-bedroom studio type rooms (like we own), larger condos, or townhomes, and these are mostly all things to rent. But they have a ton of restaurants, shopping, water sports, little cruises in the Bay, just a nice, quiet resort type setting. Just trying to throw out options...

Either way, good luck with what you decide and I hope they can go!

Jamaica has some really nice places to it and it has some real slum/poor places. Sandals has a few adult only all inclusives that are nice! Also Couples Swept Away Negril has gotten some great reviews!

Another place I'd suggest is Cancun! They have all inclusives there and the prices are very manageable! Don't know when you want to send them but we found a wonderful hotel/all inclusive in Riviera Maya called Secrets Capri. It too was adults only and lovely to not have to deal with other people's kids when we left ours home.

Puerto Rico is another really nice place and they wouldn't need a passport to go there! I always use www.tripadvisor.com to look at reviews of hotels that are in the price range and area we want to travel to.

We've been to many Sandals resorts including one in Jamaica, Sandals WHitehouse. It's very beautiful but perhaps a little over your budget. I have heard nothing but good things about Sandals Royal Caribbean and Sandals Negril. They are less expensive. I also just helped a friend take care of a trip to Sandals Royal Caribbean, they just got back and LOVED it. What time of year were you thinking of?

She has been on a Cruise, been to Orlando. We asked her when she got out of the hospital from her 3rd Brain Tumor surgery three weeks ago, if she had a choice to go anywhere, where would it be, and her reply was Jamaica.
I have several chosen from Away To Go Travel, at our price, but just don't know which ones , areas are the slum, most of the ones i chose are a 2- hour drive from airport.
A nice place to go w/out having to get a Passport would be good. Thanks for all your help.

Oh the date would be on her birthday, Oct.4-8th 2007

Keep in mind if they go anywhere out of the country via air, whether Mexico, Caribbean, or anywhere else, they will need a passport.

A passport is not needed yet for a cruise to those places.

Wow, you are a really sweet mom! (Don't have any advice, just wanted to send some kudos your way!):thumbsup2

Thanks PoohandWendy!!!!, I try to be a good Mom
Thanks to everyone, still searching, eyes are getting tired from looking. Will check out everyones advice.

Negril is absolutely beautiful - we stayed at a small resort called The Rock House, it is on the cliffs and it was absolutely awesome - I believe they have an inclusive package or non inclusive - we did non inclusive because we wanted to explore the area - we loved it and found many great places to eat and enjoy the local areas.

Check it out...

Like a previous poster said, you'll need a passport to fly to Jamaica. It could take several months to get a passport right now too. You won't need a passport for Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands though or a cruise that stops in Jamaica.

Nana, I don't think our paths have crossed on the boards before but I wanted to say what a *sweet lady* I think you are!!! I hope you find an incredible deal for your DD and DSIL. :thumbsup2

Thank-you ilovepcot, it's that i need to do something for them.
