Not being able to attend the marathon...

I'm signed up to run the half and volunteer during the full. I live less then 30 minutes away from Disney, so I don't have a hotel booked or anything else like that...but that might change very soon.

There is a pretty good chance I may be moving to Chicago soon (as in, right before or right after Thanksgiving) After pricing it out on Expedia, a Thursday-Monday trip during marathon weekend would set me back around $700 for a flight, hotel and car :scared:  :scared1: :faint: I'm not sure if I could swing that, especially since if I move, I'll be trying to fly to South Florida for Christmas with my family.

So, that's the back story, now this is my question:
If I can't attend, do I need to notify any marathon officials? The only thing I know for sure is that I don't get my registration fee back. Is there any way for me to get that darn packet they give out? I'm way curious as to what is in those things  Anything else I need to know about possibly not being able to attend?

I'm trying to find a way to save up and cut traveling costs, but moving in itself is going to be expensive as it is. Think I could get though the half without some organs? I hear the black market sometimes pays top price for those things :rotfl:

You can get your packet & shirt if you have someone who can pick it up for you. My FIL couldn't go one year and we picked up his packet. I think he wrote a short letter and we had a copy of his license with us.

For someone to pick up your packet you'll need to contact Disney and they'll send you a waiver you need to sign, then you have to provide a short note saying it's ok for this person to get your packet and a copy of your DL.

I've picked up for DH as well as others and I live just outside Chicago so if you can't manage to swing the cost, let me know and I'll bring it back for you.

Did you check SW for airfare? They are by far the cheapest out of MDW. Also you can skip the car and use DME to get from MCO to hotel. Or depending on your flight times, we can give you a ride on Thurs. (We dont' come back until Tues).

PM me if you want.

Thank you, I'll keep that in mind :goodvibes

Thank you so much, you are such a kind person :worship: If I end up moving and being able to go, I'll let you know :goodvibes

I'll definitely check out SW for flights. I didn't think I could use DME if I wasn't staying at a Disney hotel? I tried looking at the Disney hotel availability, but of course they are all booked up. I was thinking of staying at one of the Downtown Disney hotels, do they still offer DME if you stay there? I'm honestly so clueless about traveling to Disney because I've been so spoiled living so close by.

Can't use DME for non Disney hotels but I think some of them offer shuttles. Not 100% sure on that as I've never stayed off site.

Darnit. Thats what I thought. I looked at some shuttles for about $30 both ways, so that isn't too bad. I'm mostly worried about transportation on the day of the races since I won't be at a hotel that has the buses for the marathon.

Thanks for your help so far.

Wow, that is a killer price for a rental car. I'm getting AAA soon and I believe they have rental car discounts if I'm not mistaken, but I don't think they're THAT good.
