My son wants to adopt another dog and has been looking everywhere around CT for a black lab mix. They are impossible to find around here but seem to be everywhere down south.
On our trip two years ago we adopted the most wonderful black lab mix from the Petco in Clearwater. He keeps in touch with that group and they found one for him, a blonde 8 week puppy.
He works, I don't, so I volunteered to go get the puppy. I didn't want to drive my car both ways because it would cost over $800 in gas.
I found a flight one way for $92 and am renting a car from National for a one way drive home. They have cars available starting April 1 to bring home from FL so I am paying $71. for 6 days. I know it will only take 2 days but now I get a few days with a car in FL! YEAH!
My flight arrives on the 28th, I will take magical express to WDW then pick up the car on the 1st at Swan, pick up the puppy on April 3 and begin the drive home.
Now all I need is a hotel room. I am looking into my DVC but the weekend is pretty booked. I know I will find something either using my AP or one of the Disney resorts.
Best thing is my son is paying for all of it. It would cost $2000 to ship the dog here so he is getting a bargain.

Awesome! I love it when plans just fall into place like that.

We seem to be having the opposite problem, we have a planned trip and my van needs major repairs so I decided to rent one. Almost $1,000 for a van rental for the week of Easter. Congrats on your awesome deal and impromptu trip!! Happy planning.

A lot of rental agencies usually have great deals if you will drive a vehicle out of Florida during April. Try booking your trip in 2 segments. One going to Florida and one driving out. You may get a really good deal. We found car rentals driving out of Florida for $4 a day back in April of 2009. I know it was a while ago but they need cars out of there after all the spring breakers are leaving.
