Not able to fly unless you pay upgrade because of fuel costs??

My friends friend was flying out of Baltimore not Raleigh like we are. I dont know if that makes a difference.

I don't think so. I don't think any of the major scheduled carriers are currently doing a fuel surcharge. I am still leaning towards a charter.

Hooters Air is the only charter airline I found that flies from BWI to MCO.

Funjet runs a charter program out of Baltimore also.

AFAIK Funjet doesn't run flights from BWI to MCO. If you book a package (with hotel) they'll book you with scheduled air.

How would you know if your flight was a chartered flight?? Stupid question, I know. But all major airlines are not charter flights?

It's hard to know.

However, none of the major airlines are charters. JetBlue and SW are not.

Basically charters tend to run fairly limited schedules and are generally not sold via a lot of normal outlets (expedia, travelocity etc.) Some of the Orlando area charters actually fly into Sanford.

Also, if you buy a some vacation packages I think you play by their rules even if you fly on a scheduled carrier. My mom, got hit up on a package she bought to Spain and she was flying United so.... that may be another area where folks are getting hit.

This happened to my brother a few months ago. He was on a charter and when he and his buddies got to the airport for checkin they we told they had to pay $30 bucks each extra if they wanted to fly..seems a little like extortion to me. They were literaly ready to go on vacation. There was no way for them to change their flights at the last minute and not effect all their other vacation plans. Its not like you really have any choice at that time. I was really shocked. I had never heard of such a thing. You post confirms that he isn't the only one this happens to.

Funny..I think he was flying to Balitmore to see a RedSox Game...

Well my mother did get more notice then that. The tour company contacted them and basically said you have two choices fork over or don't go and get a refund. IT was $90 so my mom paid. Basically I think what happend is the tour company quoted the tour months ago and the airlines raised the rates they were charging the tour company so they passed it on.

(Her tour was with Elderhostel which is a fairly reputable tour company)

some people that I work with have flown on TMA. Not one of them had a good experiance. They are a charter airline with a limited schedule and change things at a wim. I would not be surpirised to see them increase the price to already ticketed passengers.
