I went to the most wonderful and heartbreaking wedding today, and I just had to share.
A little background. . . My friend, Molly was due to get married in May but her dad, Bob, has been battling brain cancer. These are very close family friends. I spent as much time at their house as I did mine while growing up. The four daughters were the closest thing I had to sisters. Bob was doing well and then all of a sudden took a turn. Molly called on Wednesday night and told us that she was getting married this Saturday (today), either at her church or at the hospital chapel, depending on how her dad was doing.
This mornings word was that the wedding would be at the church. We drove 3 hours to attend this wedding that was pulled together in 3 days. The church was decorated thanks to the Matron of Honor and both families and close friends managed to all make it on such short notice. When Molly walked in next to her dad with her mom pushing the wheelchair, I couldnt hold back the tears. Bob managed to remember his line while giving away the bride. The wedding was simple, elegant and very special. The pastor who married them was the pastor who had been at our church while we were growing up and he has remained a close family friend. He too dropped everything to drive 4 hours to marry them.
After the wedding, the pastor asked us all to remain seated because Molly was going to dance with her dad right there in church, before he had to go back to the hospital. She held him up and danced with him while her new husband helped with a hand on Bobs back. There was not a dry eye in the house. Even the photographer was crying. It is a moment that I will never forget. I am so glad that she had this time with him. It was short, and he was fading by the end but she had this day. If you can keep this family in your prayers, Id appreciate it.
