The best source for official details is this DME FAQ. It's for meeting attendees, but essentially the same information also applies to leisure travelers.
Nobody has to retrieve their own bags when arriving at Orlando Airport, regardless of airline. If you use the yellow tags, you'll say "see ya later" to your bags at your home airport, and you'll say hello to them a few hours after you check in at your Disney resort hotel.
The Resort Airline Check-in desk at your Disney resort hotel is open from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You can obtain your boarding passes and check your bags through to your home airport. You can do so from 3 to 12 hours prior to your scheduled flight departure time. Remote Airline Check-in works with American, Continental, jetBlue, Delta (including Song), Northwest, and United (including Ted). Because of the Resort Airline Check-in desk hours, you can't use this service for early morning departures.
