Tomorrow is the day we find out if my dh has a job. He works for Pfizer and they are laying off 60%+ of the sales force. Rumor has it they are getting rid of the people with the highest salaries which means the oldest ones. We are expecting to be unemployed at this time tomorrow. :sad2: Guess I'll be sitting by the phone all day!

not fun.... I have been unemployeed doing what ever
I Can to keep money coming in for about 14 months..
had the help of the unemployment check for about a year.

Still it takes a toll on ya... :laundy:

Good Morning Cruisers!

Peter - good to hear from you! Hope your recovery is still progressing well!

Looks like it might be a nice day here today, forecast for 47 degrees, sunny, and "breezy" ( which means winds 15-25mph), which is better than "windy" (25 plus mph).

Have a great day everyone!

We are offically jobless now. We had heard through the grapevine that over 50's or with over 20 years of service were gone and we had both. Now to start looking for a new job..........

Sorry to hear this news. We both were given buyouts at age 53 and 54. We took them because we really had no other choice. DH was afraid the plant might just shut the doors. Its been 10 years for DH and 8 years for me and we are doing OK. We realized we can live almost as well on less money, and we pay less federal and state taxes. That alone surprised me.
Good luck with your search. We will be 64 and 63 this year and are still doing OK.

Gydell, I am so sorry to hear this. Hopefully your DH will be able to find a new and better job soon.:grouphug:

Sending some pixiedust: your way ...

Don't you just love the Golden Handshake!

I really believe that when one door closes another will be opened, so sorry to hear, we all wish the best, maybe time to do what you guys have always dreamed of, whatever that may be.

So sorry to hear about your predicament. I work for one of the largest staffing/headhunting firms in the world. If you are interested, I could get a resume to the right people in the Atlanta area. Not sure what is available in the area right now. But we also have a couple of large contracts with pharmaceutical companies. However, it could mean relocating. PM me if you would like any help. Don't worry, there is no charge to the candidate.

Gydell - pixiedust: to you and your husband, here's hoping that he will find something he likes even more than what he was doing!

:grouphug: Was hoping to see good news today.

Good luck with the job search

Everything will work out. A co-worker of mine was laid off 18 months ago and we were all so worried about how she would adjust and survive. Saw her today and she had found a job doing something COMPETELY opposite of what she was doing previously and is sooooo happy.

So another person to say, when one door closes another opens.

Debbie

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes. I know it will all work out for the best. We get 22 months severce pay so we'll survive. One thing good about having so many years with the drug industry is we get medical and dental insurance for life with no fee for drugs. It's just weird looking at all the ones they laid off and most were in the top 20% of sales and above 50 years old. I know companies have to cut somewhere but it almost seems like they are cutting their own throat getting rid of their best salespeople. Dh has a couple of good leads already so hopefully before summer he will find something.

41 in central FL and only 36 here in WY

I think our high will only be in the upper 40's but sunny.

A fox was out sunning him/her self yesterday in a mound that might be a den just out side our property
