Never having cruised before if the ship leaves at 5pm what time are you expected to arrive at the port?

You have to be onboard in time for the lifeboat drill which I believe is around 3:30 or 4:00. You can normally start boarding around 11 am and that's when they start serving lunch and the pools are open also. You can normally get into your room starting around 1:00 or 1:30. The port itself usually opens around 10 am that way you have time to check in. I imagine alot of people will be staying at Disney booked hotels and will have checked in at their hotels ahead of time.

We would be driving to Dover as no more than a 2 1/2 hour drive from where we live.

As far as the water goes, we think the ship water from the drinks station is fine so have only bought bottles on the way off to an excursion.

Just a thought as you say about x-ray scanners is main luggage also scanned?

Don't forget that this is NOT PC so there will not be the waiting room with TVs and such. We have never gotten onboard until a few minutes before 12 at which time we go have lunch and wait for our rooms.

Yes and if there is water or liquor in them then they take it.

That's true. We don't know what it will be like. Barcelona was just a big port room that to a jet lagged passenger was set up like a confusing maze.

I think my biggest problem will be figuring out how to get to Dover from the airport.

I think we'll fly in at least the day before and just take DCL transfers.

We flew in the day of the TA in Barcelona and the jet lag just about killed us. It was a very valuable lesson. My parents flew in the day before and stayed in one of DCL's hotels and were nice and rested.

I want to see some of the sights of London so we'll fly out on at least Thursday, if not Tuesday or Wednesday.

It says on DCL's website that the Magic will be berthed at Terminal 2. I'm surprised they have so much information ahead of time.

Yes it would be best to fly in the day before, or earlier, incase there is a delay with the transatlantic flight, don't want to miss the boat, literally!

Dover Castle is a really good place to visit. Goes back to Henry 8th I think, then there is the underground secret war tunnels for World War 2 and that is very interesting.
