It hasn't even started. It will probably start in the Spring, according to the DA. Of course, that depends on the DA and his decision about whether or not he decides to pursue the death penalty. If he goes that route, it will take a very, very long time to prosecute.

For those not familiar, my husband was shot and killed in a robbery in Feb of this year at the restaurant where he worked. He was 41.

In August, one of my coworker's husband was riding his bike and was struck by a car and killed. He was 51. She and I are close to the same age, both have two minor children and work in the same academic college and have lost our husbands six months apart. There may very well be a trial over her husband's death, but she has not talked about this to me, I am just guessing.

If nothing else, I have learned that your whole life can change in an instant. And, your whole life can be gone in an instant. I am going to try my best to enjoy my life and my kids and make memories that will last their lifetime. In twenty years and thirty years from now, I want them to look back and say, "Remember that cruise we took with Mom to Europe....."

My DH's brother lives very close to Stockholm so I will be contacting him to meet up with us that day of the cruise if he is able.

Tammy, I am so sorry about your husband. I had noticed the tribute in your signature, but I didn't want to ask. Your family will be in my prayers.:grouphug:

I have to find out what that is! Where can I find it?

When we bought it, we had to order it special (like 3 years ago), but DH says they sell them at Best Buy now.

I am sorry about your loss. I agree with your attitude about life. I lost my father when I was a kid and my mother had the same kind of attitude and I will always appreciate that and all the special things we did together. So believe me - they WILL say those words in 20 or 30 years!

We are on a B2B. Is anyone else?

We are doing the B2B, there is a separate thread for it, which is much calmer than this one, come on over and check it out (I would post a link, but I am very computer challenged:rotfl: )

Fish extender gifts: I would really find it hard to be exclusive and give gifts to just one floor or sub-group. I will bring something small for everyone, or perhaps collaborate with some other cruisers to give something larger. Dining: if this cruise is anything like the Med sailing, you may want to switch to the late dining. I know it lets out really late for the adult shows, but many of the excursions did not get back in time for the earlier seatings and people were just pouring into Topsiders on port days.
Leaving on Wednesday for WDW.......doing the Tower of Terror race with hubby and also Scott and Lynn! Anybody else planning on being there?

Jeanne, it will be great to see you at WDW, I also agree about the fish extender gifts, we have started going with bookmarks that we (Scott) make that hopefully represent the cruise somewhat. They are easy to transport. We will usually also support the lanyards - without Ken on this cruise, is anyone doing lanyards? Peter? Count us in on support. I was thinking about changing to late dining, but as pointed out earlier, there are only 3 nights that early dining might be an issue.

Where do we fly out of once we get back to Dover? I'll be flying into Barcelona for the back to back but need to figure out the best way to get back. Is Paris far from Dover in case we want to do DLP?

Linda, we are planning to fly into to London (Gatwick) or Paris, depending on which ever is cheaper, then take the train down to Barcelona, if we fly into Paris, we will just have to get back there on the way back. I think that a side trip to DLP could be easily done. Scott could go into more detail, I think he has looked into it more than I have.

Just booked this tonight!! so excited. It'll be 4 of us (for now) my cousin who will have just graduated from high school (this is her grad present for me) my parents and me in 2 cat 11 staterooms.

I see some familiar faces on here from the WB panama canal repo. If any of you remember me--I'm the nursing student. Still plugging away, tomorrow is the half point of my program. So assuming I graduate on time and get job I'll be there...

Eurostar, the train would be the easiest way to get to Paris. You would just have to get to the terminal whicj is a few miles away. There are ferries accross the channel from Dover itself but you would then have to get down to Paris. I bet there is a train from Calais. Otherwise you could fly home from Gatwick or Heathrow and I think DCL would have transfers to the airport.

As someone suggests later you could do the round trip to Paris and catch the train to Barcelona. That would be cheaper than 2 one way fares.

I thought it had already started Tammy. Was that a pre trial or something. I know you were finding it hard. I think that you are an amazing woman and mother and I am so glad we got to meet and as you know I'm so excited about you being on this cruise too.

This is like a reunion cruise!

Who wants to do lanyards? Where's Ken and Kelly when we need them? I will definitely contribute but there is no way anyone would want what I could come up with!

Damn, another 10 pages I had to catch up on!! I've been so busy getting ready for Disney World and the cruise next week, that I haven't been able to be online very much at all!!

Got my postcard in the mail from Mickey about the cruise though, said we owed $10,000 in Feb. of 2010:eek: We can save it up, and "rent" out our DVC points, and sell a kidney by then....:rotfl:

Tammy, so sorry about your DH. I've also noted your siggy, and wondered, but didn't want to ask and bring up sad emotions. One of my patients is a Brain Injured baby, and he was hurt back in May of 2006 when he was 9 months old. The trial for the guy has been postponed so many times, its now been over 2 years, and while they did start the trial, they put a continuence on it til Jan. 09. The court system is very frustrating, I hope you get some peace!!

I can't wait to go on the boat Nov 1, and I am even more excited about the Baltic.:woohoo: Blessed are we to be able to afford to go on this once in a lifetime trip, esp. with all you fine people!!

I hope you have a wonderful cruise - not long now at all.:yay:

Tammy,

I'm sorry about your husband. What an awful ordeal. It sounds as if you're doing all the right things to help both you and your children heal. I know that it can't be easy - and I'm sure there are days when you'd like to throw in the towel - or say I'm just not STRONG enough for this! If spending a bit too much for a vacation is what it takes to help your family heal - then the benefit is priceless. Follow your heart!

Sue

Tammy, You deserve the cruise.

I have been through a few trials and they do take time, very frustrating for sure, hang in there be strong, work with the DA, don't be afraid to tell him your thoughts. Remember there are legal issues, strange as they my be as they might make no sense at all, that need to be adhered to.

Thanks everyone. This case was brought before the Grand Jury in September but it was supposed to be in May but the judge moved it at the last minute for some technical reason. The accused was indicted, so that was good news. Fortunately, the news did not make a big deal out of it, because I was really worried about it since after the shooting, they were at the house filming outside twice a day and sending emails and calling. They are leaving us alone for now, but once the trial starts, whenever that is, the DA has asked that I attend as much as I can.

I am doing the best I can with my kids, my son is a real challenge though. He is not doing well in school, is in counseling for drug issues, and is suffering with depression. He is a really good boy with a good heart but he is struggling. It is hard to watch him hurt so much.

Okay, enough about me. Let's get back to cruise planning. Thanks though.

He'll come out of it and be stronger for it. He is a good kid and has you to help and support him.

Thanks Gydell, I worry about him more than anyone in the world. I am off to work, I will check in later.

:grouphug: to you all.

Tammy, I am so sorry for your loss. You are definitely in my prayers. I saw your post over on the DVC Misc. board about another woman losing her husband. I hope that your words were able to help her. When I read about her difficulty in whether to ever go to WDW again because it was her and her DH's special place, it brought tears to my eyes. I started wondering if I would be able to go back to WDW or DCL, if something ever happened to Steve. It was so great that you were able to share your experience about your cruise. I hope all goes well with the trial. Take care!

:woohoo: Welcome! This will be Jamie's graduation present from high school also! She graduates on June 3 (hopefully, I'm crossing my fingers). We will fly out the morning of the 4th, to get to Barcelona in time to get on the ship on the 5th headed to Dover! I'm crossing my fingers that graduation is on the 3rd and not the 4th! I know there is no way we can miss high school graduation.

I checked flight schedules on Delta for going from Salt Lake City to Barcelona, and we can definitely make it. Also, Salt Lake City does have a direct flight each day (right now at least) to Paris, so we could always hit that flight. When I was at the airport last month taking a flight to Orlando (imagine that), they gate agent was trying to get 2 volunteers to take a bump for $1,200 each to fly to Paris the next day. I was wishing I was on that flight so I could have scored the $1,200!

Anyway, I'll be using FF miles, so I'll book immediately as the booking window opens next year. It seems so far away!

Tammy - I send you lots of prayers!! Looking forward to meeting you and your family on the cruise. You are amazing!:flower3:

All - I do not mind coordinating the lanyards and possibly silicone bracelets for the trip. I will need help (finanacially and getting them to the port).
