Northern Sights and Mickey's MAGICal Delights-1st Baltic Cruise-June 12,2010-Pt 2

Nobody said you had to tell them they'd be able to contact you.:lmao: Also, if you really don't want them to contact you just turn the phone off.

That's what I always do when we are away - I only switch it on twice a day to check if they have left me any e-mails. :goodvibes

:thumbsup2 We always leave ours off when onboard. We always have to call home when we get on dry land. We'll definitely have to this time since our 3 month old (almost 4) puppy will be staying with his grandparents.

I have Verizon and I did confirm that my phone would not work at all. Some type of difference in technology. I purchased an international phone with an international SIM Card that will work in all the countries I am visiting. And calls are 59 cents per minute and receiving texts are free. .35 cents to send. I will use this many times hopefully over the next few years. www.onesimcard.com

I have been looking at Blackberries for a long time so this cruise was my excuse. I have Verizon as the provider. It came with a global card in it that all I need to do is go to Verizon and have them turn it on. It is $59 a month (they do prorate if it is not on the entire month) You receive unlimited e-mails and no roaming charges for the phone calls. I am not letting DS know because she like her phone time and will be spending the entire cruise on my phone!
Note to all of the Northern CA folks which is where I am originally from, I think we need to pack like we are going to a SF Giants game! :rotfl: This means layers.

Our Documents arrived today, for phone I just purchased a SIM card for my Black Berry, free in coming calls to the UK # other rates are about the same as other plans. I will not tell the office about the US number also provided, as they will not want to pay the UK call.

We planned on using my mom's phone, which is with AT&T. We just pay a $5 fee for the month and that takes the per min charge to .99 a minute instead of 1.99.

Now I am looking at what Tammy posted and seeing if that is more economical. I would have to see if I can change the SIM on her phone. I know I can not remove the SIM on my TREO. We know that we will be making calls to check up on my father, so just working out the math.

I won't find out about my Docs until Monday when my TA returns home from vacation. But that is ok :)

Sometimes it is under the battery. Not sure where the sim card is.

Okay, all this talk about phones has me wondering about our iphone:confused: I never wanted one these phones cause I'm technically challenged but now that I have one I loooooove it:love: I also need to be able to share our trip with my mom and be able to check with her while we are gone. As for docs, nope but tomorrow is Friday the only day of the week that our TA works so am hoping for a call or e-mail! I will be :surfweb: all day waiting for a message from her. Am I remembering correctly that someone else is using SilverFleet either before or after the cruise? I was looking at their site and they will pick us up at the ship and take us directly to our hotel in London:woohoo: I'm thinking that would probably be easiest instead of taxi from ship to train station, train to London somewhere, tube ride to hotel (we are staying at the Millenium Baileys Hotel in London Kensington). Has anyone else looked at the price of train tickets from Dover to London? I don't know if I'm looking at the right stuff. Where did you go to look at prices? Can you tell I'm freaking out:scared:

Marianne:eek:

Does anyone have a 7-8yr old boy that would like to email with my DS? His sister has met a friend from these boards, and he is feeling a little left out!

I looked on http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ and the round trip for my family of five was about 150 pounds. I think one-way was about 110 pounds. We decided to hire a car and driver. The one we're using is just a guy and his car, I guess, at the recommendation from the B&B we're staying at in Dover - they said they use this guy all the time. One-way is 130 pounds, which is a little less than I've seen some other car services asking.

We're considering the DCL Transfer on the way back to London, to maybe do the Leeds tour. Anyone know how to reserve that? I don't see anything about it one the cruise reservations sight.

Hi Marianne ... I'm using Silverfleet from Heathrow to Dover on the 10th. I can let you know how things go on the 11th!

I've made all my reservations for the Gatwick Express into and back from the Gatwick Hilton into London, ordered my Oyster cards, and confirmed with the car service about our trip to and from Gatwick to Dover. I think that we are pretty much set. I did order a couple of packing cubes from Magellans, hopefully that will help.

We are taking the train http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ from London Bridge Station to Dover Priory with a quote of 88.80# for the train tickets for 2 adults and 2 kids. I still need to buy the tickets. I got a quote with http://www.simplyairports.co.uk/ for 120# from our hotel to Dover. We are staying at the London Hilton Docklands Riverside which is why we are taking the train from London Bridge station.

Have you all seen the new Space Bag to Go that you just push down on it get the air out of it instead of rolling it?

I'm going to give these a try for the Baltic and see how they work out.

Ah, I think I found some info on this, finally (thanks to my TA). There are several England excursions offered before or after the cruise if you are staying at one of the DCL-offered hotels. There are two Debarkation Day excursions that you can take whether you are in a DCL hotel or not.

Those two are the Leeds Castle tour and the Highlights of London tour. But you can only book these onboard. We're going to have to get on the ship early - our list of things to reserve (excursions, Palo brunch, etc) is growing.

We use the rolly dudes all the time, Lynn just ordered the hang up ones for the dress clothes.

I would hate to have my T-shirts come out wrinkled:lmao::lmao:

We are booked on the Canterbury and Leeds tour through DCL on the 11th. Our docs showed the 12th so they had to reconfirm the 11th. It is a 9 hour tour leaving the hotel at 8:00 am. Sue

That's why I'm going to try these because the rolling ones always scared me about wrinkles.

The set I ordered has 3 cubes, 3 large rolly's and 3 small rolly's. I figure I'll use the rolly's for underware, socks, etc., things I don't mind getting wrinkled a little.

Maybe, just maybe I'll get away with 1 suitcase and the garment bag this way. Might have to do a trial run.

We are booked on that tour as well--looking forward to it all! (And keeping a watchful eye on that volcano in Iceland).

I have reservations for both Palo dinner and High tea. I have a reservation for two, but don't really want to go by myself. I am not looking for a "date", just someone else, who is traveling without another adult who wants to go to Palo and like me, doesn't want eat at Palo alone. Send me a pm if interested and I will look up the time.
