Northern Sights and Mickey's MAGICal Delights-1st Baltic Cruise-June 12,2010-Pt 2

I'm heading to London for a couple of days on Sunday to see my son. I made the same flights as our cruise just to check things out. Have never flown transatlantic out of Charlotte.

Did you fly into Heathrow? How long did it take you to get through customs?

I heard Heathrow is much easier than Gatwick. Sure hope so!

Gatwick is a complete nightmare!!!! There's nothing worse than flying 10 hours+ and then having to stand around and stare at monitors waiting for a gate number for your connecting flight and then only have about 15 minutes to get there.:scared1:

So does anyone remember how long it took to get through customs at Heathrow?

I'm trying to figure our connecting flight to Gibraltar because Jamie graduates from high school on June 4th and we aren't getting on the ship in Barcelona, we will be getting on Monday June 7th when it docks in Gibraltar on its' way to Dover!

I don't know about Heathrow, but I remember at Gatwick it wasn't bad because we had a connecting flight. We got off the plane, went through security and were on our way. I don't remember it taking any time at all.

Would Madrid be easier??

Got some currency ordered for our trip always handy to have some on hand.

I fly in and out of Heathrow (LHR) frequently for work. Immigration lines are not terrible in my experience...it depends on when you arrive. My last trip had a delay out of IAD so we were very late getting into LHR...there were only 3 immigration agents which was taking forever so they went to get more agents and that sped things up. I am usually in business class so we get to immigration earlier than the coach folks and that time it took probably an hour for folks at the end of the line to get through. That is unusual in my experience though.

I've tried Madrid and Barcelona but I can't seem to find any connnections from there over to Gibraltar and the only ones I have found actual go all the way to London and then to Gibraltar.

If you know of any other way, I'm willing and able to go an alternate way. Haven't booked our reservations yet. Using FF miles on Delta hopefully.

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking probably around an hour to get bags and get through immigration, so I'm thinking that will work for us.

Yes...that should be accurate. Typically the bags are coming around on the belt by the time I get through immigration. Occasionally I have to wait but again that is unusual.

I flew in and out of Gatwick. It was painless. Took me about 45 minutes to get through passport control, customs and retrieve my bag (I was in Business Class and to Passport Control fairly quickly). On the return it was about the same. The first step of security took about 15 minutes. The security at the gate took about 15-20 minutes. The security at the gate is thorough, they check your carryon luggage, open all bags and do a quick pat down. One line for men and one for women. I would prefer to live in a world where that level of security isn't necessary, but since I don't, I don't mind it a bit.

I had a great trip. Confirmed that staying at the Gatwick Hilton was the right choice pre and post cruise. The Gatwick Express will make it easy to get in and out of London. Still trying to figure out what is the best way to get to the Magic. Either taking Disney transportation or a private vehicle appear to be the best options. Isn't somebody else staying at the Gatwick Hilton before the cruise?

"Rumour" has it that the prices for excursions should be up on Monday. Let's all cross our fingers. Knowing the prices will definitely make things easier.

Prices would be a big help!!!! The only one I really want to know the price on is the Private Vehicle and Premium Train in Berlin, but I've pretty much ruled that one out already.
