Northern Sights and Mickey's MAGICal Delights-1st Baltic Cruise-June 12,2010-Pt 2

It does seem rather short! I just may live out of my suitcase! Did you bring dress clothes for the 3 night? We are trying just to bring carry-ons. I would hate for the guys to have to bring jackets. :confused3

We are on June 3rd. We've never had a 2 before. We have 3 adults and two small children. We normally get two connecting rooms. I always put myself on the wait list. This time they actually called me. I am beginning to wonder if anyone is on this cruise. Its the only one that doesn't have a meet yet. I guess I'll have to start one. People don't seem to be into the Alaskan cruise as much. I think a lot of it was due to the crazy prices.

Like I said, we're still waiting for our call. So :wizard: that it happens. It's still a year and a half away, so there's plenty of time for our phone call to happen.

You'll be addicted to the Cat. 2. There's plenty of space for everyone to spread out. It was so nice.

You might want to check the June 3rd date.
We are booked on the Alaska cruise that embarks on May 31, 2011 and disembarks on June 7, 2011.

oops! hehe That would have been hard to do. It is June 7th!

I did bring one dress. One that I could roll up and krinkle in the suitcase without getting wrinkled. And, I ended up going to Palo's for dinner the first night, so I was glad I packed it after all.

Besides that, it was all casual.....

Good Afternoon cruisers!

It is good to see folks posting! This is coming up faster than I thought! Looking forward to it!

Have a great day all!

OH, that's great that you live in Canterbury! That is where I want to go the day or two before the cruise! I haven't been there yet! Please tell us more about recommended places to stay, etc. :yay::yay:

Any idea why I'm not getting updates anymore that people have posted :confused3

I'll have a chat to dh later and see what we can think of regarding hotels etc :) The first that springs to mind is Abode which is right on the High Street in the centre of town. We've eaten at the restaurant several time (its run by a "celebrity" chef) and its great. We also considered staying there for our wedding anniversary (ended up at Disneyland Paris instead lol) so did go and look at some rooms there. The standard rooms were just fine, standard and I expect by American standards quite small. Some of the more deluxe rooms were lovely though!

The beauty of staying somewhere like that would be you could just wander out, take a look at the shops, visit the Cathedral and museums without having to worry about transport etc. Then just a short drive to Dover for the cruise!

I've just taken a quick look at TripAdvisor which i often refer to when booking hotels and there are some recommendations there - you can even stay at the Cathedral itself!

How is everyone getting to Dover? We arrive at Heathrow the day before. I have been quoted 150 pounds for transfer, but I can rent a car for about 80 pounds. Any reason not to drive?

Any thoughts on when/ if they may reduce the price of this cruise?? I only ask because no lottery win as yet and because Disney emailed me this week with a promotional email as they are now selling through Virgin Holidays - up until now in the UK we had to book direct. At the moment it looks like they are only selling the Med cruises but they seem cheaper than when we orginially booked. Surely they are only starting to sell through a tour operator because they need to shift rooms? And for us it would have the advantage of a fixed price, at the moment it fluctuates with the exchange rate which is a bit unnerving to say the least!

And another thing ..... I can't log into the website to check our reservation etc, it doesn't seem to recognise our email etc any more?! I'm normally pretty good with computers but this has me stumped.

The Dream opening for booking might have some effect on it. People might move various bookings around to sail on it. I'm 99.9% sure we won't be sailing on it anytime soon. They've got a lot of options out there right now between this, the Med, Alaska and the Dream so they might be forced to discount depending on what bookings are like.

Good Morning Cruisers!

Emily - the Dream does not actually open for booking until Nov 2 (for gold and platnium folks), but I am sure the site was over run yesterday - we spend some time on it looking at the room categories. Not to mention all the folks on the site at 4pm looking for the announcement!

Have a great day all!

$400 deposit non-refundable for a 4 night cruise is a liitle high. Can not transfer either!

I realize that. I was just saying that all of these different cruises that are available might have some effect on the Baltic's popularity especially with it's cost. They wouldn't discount this cruise until late this year, early next year if they discount it at all either way.

We spent time looking at it too. I'm sure we'll sail the Dream at some point, but I don't know when at this point. Right now I don't see me waiting in phone limbo on Monday morning.

That's just for the inaugural cruise though on January 26th from what I got. And, if you book it, it is non-transferrable to another cruise and non-refundable! I think they want you to be 100% that you are not just booking multiple reservations.

I am definitely going on the inaugural, so I have my request in already and am expecting great news on Monday sometime AND, I'm going to stay on for the January 30th for a back to back, so will spend at least 8 nights on the Dream in January/February 2011.

You'll love the Cat. 2. We had one on our last cruise. We've been in a 3 a couple of times, but the 2 was just awesome. Plenty of room for us 4 adults. Don't plan on cruising in anything less after that, except on short cruises.

Was the 3 too small? I'm just wondering because they don't have the two bedroom ones on the dream. I think we could fit into a one bedroom, but I'm not sure. We have 3 adults and two little kids. It's only 4 days. I usually get two connecting rooms. I just hate that we pay extra for my FIL because he is by himself in his own room.

We are trying to get this as well! :thumbsup2

I was really disappointed to see that. The 1 bedroom on the Magic was a little tight for us, but we like having the dedicated living room space that the 2 bedroom offers. The 1 bedroom on the Dream looks to be laid out a little better so the master doesn't take up half of the stateroom. Also, the Royal Suite on the Dream connects to a Deluxe Family Stateroom, so you can technically have a two bedroom.

Any idea when they should be releasing excursion information for the Baltic?

I don't feel as organized as I usually am for these things. Still haven't booked flights, hoping for better rates! Lots of plans revolve around the actual arrival and departure dates...

I had been emailing back and forth with the land based concierge and she said that they should be released around January.

So we can get through Christmas before we need to think about those. Really curious as to what will be offered in Russia..

Yeah, it sounds like we'll get about a month to look at them. Concierge and platinum CC members can book at 120 days out which is the early part of Feb, but that will be here before we know it. I really need to start working on our pre-cruise plans.:scared1:

no flights yet for us either. We think we will fly Virgin Atlantic on Wed, arriving Thursday. But it's still "up in the air"! :lmao:
