I am waiting for the 2018 release of the Northern European DCL cruises. I'm looking for comments/opinions from previous cruisers. How were the adult only excursions? Did anyone have a preference as to where to stay pre and post cruise? Any comments appreciated!

I can't speak to the excursions but I like the Admiral Hotel in Copenhagen (https://admiralhotel.dk/en/). It's right near Nyhavn on the waterfront. Tivoli Gardens is about a 15 minute walk. The only downside I can think of is that the hotel has no air conditioning; most of the time in Copenhagen that is not an issue.

If you prefer something more modern, right next door to the Admiral is the Scandic Front hotel; I haven't stayed at that particular Scandic, but I have been to others and they are generally very nice.

we stayed at Copenhagen Plaza, across the street from Tivoli and the train station is a good area of town. It's SUPER cheap and easy to take the train form CPH into Copenhagen (about 10 minutes). Plaza has a few quad rooms. Don't worry about reviews saying "old" etc. It was very nice and perfectly fine with some character. The staff was nice and let us store our baggage while we toured around after our cruise, as we had a late flight. We were also to walk to/from Tivoli at night in about 3 minute. I would stay here again. We have also stayed at the Marriott, and like it fine, but it is a bit of a hike from the train station. They only have triple rooms are tend to be a high price. M's buffet breakfast is the best thing I have every seen anywhere.

Thanks! Did you enjoy the itinerary overall?
I get to go to Copenhagen on business from time to time. You wouldn't like my "itinerary".

I do really enjoy Denmark, it deserves a stay before and/or after your cruise.

If you can rent a car for just one day (and get moving pretty early in the morning) you can see a couple of great castles and the seaside. Just drive North out of the City, use the road called Strandvejen ("beach road", Rt. 152) which goes along the water with plenty of photo ops all the way up to Kronborg Castle (be careful, as you approach the castle/town, it's easy to accidentally drive onto road leading to the ferry that goes to Sweden, not that I made that mistake :guilty:). After visiting Kronborg Castle, you can find some lunch nearby in the town of Helsingør or keep moving and drive about 30 minutes southwest on the E47 towards Hillerød (another good spot to find a restaurant) to Frederiksborg Castle. From there it's only about 45minutes to 1 hour back to the city.

If you want to stay closer to Tivoli, as ldo suggested, there is also the main Scandic Copenhagen. It's a nice part of town, but I always find myself walking towards Nyhavn and the walkplatz that leads from city hall down to the harbor.

I loved the Hilton Copenhagen at the airport - so nice to get off a long flight and be right at your hotel and sleep :) We stayed there two nights and loved it - very easy train ride into the city for Tivoli and the city center.

We stayed at the Scandic Palace, right across from City Hall. It's somewhat pricey, but we loved it. Great location (we walked absolutely everywhere), beautiful hotel, great staff. It was very near Tivoli and a step away from the Stroget. The National Museum (I highly recommend this!) and Christiansborg Slot were also very close by. If we return to Copenhagen, and I hope we do some day, I'd probably stay nearer Nyhavn, just for a change and the ability to explore more of that area of the city.

We stayed at the Scandic Palace as well and love it! also the breakfast was included. We did the Castle tours one day, Hop On bus, canal tour and Tivoli on day 2 and Malmo tour on day 3. the first day was cold and rainy but after that was a really good weather. We did Disney tours but not adults only, we did a private tour in St Peterburg and it was the best thing I did.

We were on a B2B in 2015 so started in Copenhagen and disembarked in Dover (I don't think they are using Dover as a port anymore). In Copenhagen, we stayed at the Hotel D'Angleterre and in London we stayed at the Milestone Hotel. Both amazing, but quite pricey.

As for the cruise itself, we did a 9-night Norway followed by an 11-night Norway/Iceland/Scotland cruise and they were both unbelievable.

We stayed at the Tivoli Hotel for our last two cruises. We reserved on our own and not through Disney. It is just down the block and around the corner from the main train station and Tivoli Gardens. We really fell in love with Copenhagen while visiting for our Baltic cruise. We were so excited to spend more time there after our cruise last summer that we added three extra days. Happy cruising!

Another vote for the Scandic Palace. It also has AC, and our rooms were exceptionally large by even US standards. The breakfast buffet was very good, and it is in a great location. We did the free walking tour, which starts right out in front of the Scandic Palace. Copenhagen is eminently walkable, and the walking tour gave us a good basis for navigating.

I really appreciate all the comments! What month was the cruise offered? This year it looks like May.

Our cruise departed May 31. The departure 2 weeks later was 50% more expensive. Crazy!

We did 2 private self arranged tours (found via Tripadvisor) and 2 DCL tours. We all decided we liked our private tours much better. Smaller, more personalized, better use of time in port. For those, we did a food walking tour in Tallinn and used TJ Tours in SPB for a very full day of packed sight seeing and dinner out in town.

Thanks for the tour guide tip! That was my next question. I want to get names of some reputable tour companies.
