I dont claim to be an expert on North Korea, I can only go by the pictures and descriptions I've seen from a few websites and also a couple of TV programs based on it.

But from what I know, it seems to me that the situation of NK's people is a lot like how Morpheus was describing the Matrix to Neo. Basically how people who were in the Matrix were so blinded by what they know that taking them out of that environment could be catastrophic for them.

It seems like the people of NK consider Kim Jong Il and his late father as true gods. What kind of response could they have if suddenly they were shown the outside world, where probably 80% of people don't even know anything about Kim Jong Il, etc.

I also have thought of this, how if by any chance there is a war (lets PRAY there isn't!) how would we handle it? Most North Koreans are required to serve in the military and are trained, so would that mean that we'd consider all of them to be enemies instead of innocent civilians? Morpheus said something about that too in the Matrix, how anyone who hasn't been told of being in the Matrix wasn't freed and was therefore considered an enemy (or something of that sort)

I know its disgusting to think about, but what if?
