North Face coat is warmest coat ever - so worth the money!!

I wouldn't hesitate to shop ArcTeryx, Patagonia, Marmot, or possibly Mountain Hardware for nice jackets too. :thumbsup2

Definitely! I was oogling some SWEET Patagonia jackets in the girls' department tonight as I was wearing a Marmot. Hubby wears Mountain Hardware on an almost daily basis. Ds9 wears ds14's outgrown men's small ArcTeryx, which is top of the line! TNF is really nice and we have a bunch of it in our house, but definitely not to the exclusion of the other great outfitters.

The North Face is amazing about standing behind their products, too, as are the other brands listed above.

Edit to add the best use in our house: Ds14 got a Denali fleece when he was about 5. He wore it until the sleeves were too short and then gave it to ds9. That was several years ago and he can STILL wear it! It's been worn for 9 straight seasons!!!

Just wanted to add that I also got dd a Burton ski/snowboarding jacket this year and we are really pleased with the quality for that one as well. I love how lightweight the newer jackets are while still being warm enough for our winters and winter sports.:goodvibes

Good to know about Mountain Hardware. We've never bought their jackets/coats, but when DH had to keep a nasty burn covered, in Arizona, in the summer (yikes :sunny:) we were all over their sun protection clothing.

See, I knew I would forget someone when I started listing brands. :rotfl:

I just wanted to point out that TNF is not the only quality option out there.

My DD's have TNF jackets and they love them too.
But I have to wonder how much that has to do with the qualities of the jackets, and how much it has to do with the fact that TNF is an "in" brand right now. ;)

:thumbsup2

So true! Especially when they are three sizes too small and waist length. There are tons of fakes out now too, Everyone is China Town had one on. I took DD's Columbia since she will no longer wear it and I LOVE it.

I have never tried a North Face. My warmest winter jacket is from Isis and it is actually too warm to wear at 30 degrees or above.

Just about any coat is warm when all you are doing is walking from your front door to your mailbox.

Well this California girl is coming back to giver her apology to you.

I was discussing the warmth of jackets and was told that North Face is the warmest! What do I know! lol;)

Since moving to the Rockies I am enjoying my Columbia but since I noticed you are in Canada I'm sure you know what you are talking about..

I bow to your superior knowledge of warm coats. I still like mine though.:lovestruc

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but would love some help. My ds is going to go to college in the north and we currently live in the deep south. I figure he will need this. Where is the best price for the Northface jackets?

LOL! It really is so warm! So, bought my DH one yesterday, and he is loving his coat too! Kids want them, but we don't have any kids' North Face in our city, but I found out there is an outlet a few hours from us.

Stay warm everyone, Tiger :)

Over the past 10 years, I have not spent any money on coats. I have a leather coat, that is about 12 years old, and looks as good as the day I got it, and a cheap ski jacket. I never really spent much time outside, as the cold weather bothers my allergies/asthma, but now, we are outside a lot more with picking kids up at school and outside activities, so I needed a warm coat.

I tried on several other coats, many of which were more expensive than The North Face: Merrell, Columbia (gone down in quality), Helly Hansen (sell at Disney), Woolrich and Under Armour. It wasn't until I got to The North Face, that I truly found the warmest coat ever!

Funny you mention Columbia going down in quality, dh says that same about TNF. He has been wearing them since the early 90's, way before they were popular with the mainstream population. He won't buy them anymore and he buys coats like most women buy shoes :rotfl2:. This year dds ended up with REI and Obermeyer coats - dh didn't want to pay for either Columbia or TNF. He and I wear Patagonia.

We are a skiing family so a good coat is essential to being happy.

I love my Denali fleece..it has kept me warm down to the 30 degree days and back in the summer we were at a thrift store and found a denali with a hood for DD (3)..she will be able to wear it at least 2 more years and here is the real kicker..we paid $3 for it!!!!!!! Definitely got my moneys worth hahaha..she really does love it though and never complains about being cold at all!
