North Dallas/West of Plano

Can anyone tell me about living in that area? Cities that are nice with awesome schools. Any areas to avoid?

Allen is nice for North Dallas. I understand from my sister that the school district is really good there. If you are looking west of Plano then I would look toward either the mid-cities or Grapevine / Colleyville area.
