So this is a bit of a strange post. But please bare in mind I have a HUGE phobia of illness, especially digestive type ones. Which is ironic as I'm in abdominal pain at least 2 days a week, I think I'm just scared of it getting worse.

Yesterday I had a session with my personal trainer, who had been off from a work a few days really unwell. Which now I find out was a norwalk like virus that other people at the gym have had too.

He prepares every machine at the gym for me and passes me a lot of weights etc.

I made sure not to touch my face while at the gym, but obviously had a water bottle with me, but I tried hard not to touch near where I'd be drinking from, I also used sanitzing gel on my hands and washed them loads.

So I made te mistake of looking up noroviruses online and the normal incubation period is 36 hours, which as I went to the gym at midday yesterday is midnight tonight.

I'm meant to be staying at a friends tonight, and I am beside myself worrying that I'll get ill at her house (30 mins drive from mine), to the point of wanting to cancel and therefore miss our other friends Hen Party.

I know it's ridiculous, and I've said to my family how I feel and all I get is an eye-roll or told it's silly, but that doesn't make me any calmer. I just don't know what to do. :(

 No you're not be silly hun, I get stressed like this leading up to a holiday, and I go mad with sanitizer while I'm away too. The only thing I can suggest is to go along with your plans, and if you start to feel ill while you're out, then just get a taxi home. I wouldn't cancel though, as I'd hate to miss something because 'I could get ill'

Have fun, and I hope you'll be OK :wizard:

Its not silly at all :)

I was the same when i found out i was pregnant i was so worried about becoming ill, you should have seen how many little tubs of those hand santiser's i went through!

I would still go, just maybe take something with you incase you start to feel unwell whilst your out. Like Mandy said you can always get a taxi home if you start to feel unwell.

I know its easier said than done, but try to relax and stop worrying - i always find if i get myself so stressed over something i start to feel unwell anyway. :)

Not silly, I think you should still go, and to ease your mind before you go have a complete plan-of-action for what to do if you do start to feel unwell when your out, so if worst comes to worst you won't have to worry what to do, just follow your plan (and it means when you're out you can enjoy yourself knowing its all taken care of).

Hope your fine, and have fun tonight :wizard:

Thanks everyone.

I had a nice long bath and thought it all through. We're about to go shopiing, so I'll buy the fast working, strongest Immodium I can see, and then I figure even if I do get ill I will be able to fix it within about half an hour, then I can get home.

I feel a lot happier now that I have my plan all sorted. :)

Chances are I'll be absolutely fine anyway.

I really, really hope you do not get it as it spreads like wildfire. My mum caught it in hospital three weeks ago and then I got it from her. The whole ward she was in got it as well and they have no idea of the origin.

It took me 6 days to get over it and you know the minute you get it as you are violently sick. I really feel for you and hope you do not get it.

Take care
Tina

We had it at the school where I work last year. Like Tina says it comes on so quickly ~ we had buckets placed all along the corridors for the poor victims  it was so bad that the school got closed down for nearly a week, partly due to the lack of teachers! Luckily, I didn't catch it so it was a bonus holiday for me. :goodvibes

Hopefully you will be fine  think positively and enjoy your evening.

As a domestic in the local hospital I come across it every year. Caught it once and it was awful, if we have a ward shut to new patients with it I'm just extra careful with hand hygience. You'd be amazed how many visitors do come and go and don't take the necessary precautions on entering and leaving the ward and also the number of patients who don't wash their hands after using the bathroom:confused:Can't blame the cleaners for that.

It's horrible. Every time I'm out in public I see people just walking out of toilets without washing their hands. Even in restaurants!

Truth be told I doubt I'm at any extra risk with someone who had it than just any normal day out in public. As I know my trainer would have used loads of hand sinitzer adn washed his hadns loads so not to spread it, and I was double careful with washing my hands and not touching my face etc. Just think about what you touch on the tube etc.

One thing Im always careful of is when Im in a restaurant I always move my cutlery before putting my menu down.
Most people get a menu put it on the table to read it on top of their cutlery and then use that cutlery putting it in their mouth. Loads of people have touched that menu as they are not cleaned between use

Yeah - urgh I hate menus! Good call on moving cutlery.

Also, never put your handbag on the table, as the bottom of is has sat on public transport seats, floors etc.

Gross!
