We're taking an unplanned trip for a family function this weekend - and the only remaining hotel rooms are for smokers. We'd appreciate any tips or suggestions to help us be as comfortable as possible.
Thanks.

Frebreeze spray the sheets etc this will help alot. Also most Hotels have a machine they can put in the room to help remove some of the odor.

Bring your crock pot and make a roast, this way you won't smell the smoke.:rotfl:

I wouldn't worry about it right now, you never know someone may cancel; or decide they actually want a smoking room. Just make sure to inquire at the front desk upon check-in.

Some hotels have air purifer machines that you could get. I like the above posters suggestion about Frebreeze or air freshener. I find the the rugs in these rooms are also tend to make your socks very black.

That's it - then I'll burn popcorn in the microwave and
pool-hop to the hotel next door!
:lmao:

Bring your own pillows, those seem to collect the most smoke. Consider taking a blanket too.
Also, ask again when you get there for a non-smoking room, maybe one came available.
Bring a Yankee candle.

Yankee Midsummers Night candle will remove just about any odor. I keep the car jar of that scent hanging in my garage by the garbage cans and all I can smell is the freshener.
Even as a smoker  (dont shoot me), I hate the stale smell it leaves behind so I always travel with a box of Yankee votives and Febreeze. The first thing I do when I enter the room is spray everything down with febreeze and light a few of the votives and place them around the room. DH (a nonsmoker) agrees that what I do removes all the smell from the room. If it disnt work, Im sure I'd hear about it.

We got two non-smoking rooms once at WDW and one had obviously been smoked in by the people staying in there before us. When we aksed to move but there was no other connecting rooms available and they asked if they could take a shot of taking away the smell before we insisted on switching to another resort. We went to the AK for the day, and much to our surprise, they did remove most of the smoke smell.

My bigeest problem with whole experience is why they didn't do that BEFORE they checked out the room to somebody else.

Are there no other hotels at all?

We had to spend the night once in a smoking room and it was horrible. When we checked out I felt like all our stuff reeked of smoke, and kept smelling stale cigarette smoke after we left.

Bethany - I have that very candle and I'm putting it aside to pack right now.

Thanks everyone for the tips! :)

There's nothing in the area. We're staying in the suburbs of Baltimore, not far from BWI airport and also, the Yankees are in town for a series with the Orioles. We're Red Sox fans and have traveled there for games - and rooms are hard to find.

On check in, ask if a non smoking room came available. If not, have them remove the bedspreads, blankets, pillows and other linens in the room and replace them with cleaned or new items. Have them change the air filter in the room as well. If possible, have them remove and replace the window drapes. They have all of these items in stock and should be happy to accommodate you. I had a room that was supposed to be non smoking but it wasn't at the Hilton Waikaloa Village. When all of those items were replaced, most of the smoke was gone.

How awful!! I would under no circumstances spend the night in a smoking room. I'd either sleep in the car, drive straight thru to my destination, or not go at all.

Would the Four Points near BWI work for you? They have non-smoking room available for the weekend of Aug 4th.
Also the Four Points by Sheraton Hagerstown ,Sheraton College Park.
I don't know if those locations would work for you, but at least they have non-smoking rooms available for this coming weekend.
