Non-Private VIP Tour

So hubby and I are annual passholders at WDW and we're planning a trip in January (4-9). We've never done Universal and really only have 1 day to devote to it. We want to see as much as we can. Hubby is a BIG Harry Potter fan. We're leaning toward a VIP non-private tour

Although it's expensive (~$500 for two) plus admission which you're paying either way, there are some things that seem to make it more reasonable:

1) No need to either purchase express passes or a room at one of the hotels. (~300 for a room, ~250 for express I think)
2) Free valet parking. ($45)
3) Significant time savings
4) We loooove history. We've seen every movie on disney history, read every book, etc. We know almost nothing about universal and would love to hear some tidbits and background.
5) Hubby is willing to make this his only christmas present

I know that the VIP tour isn't right for everyone but it seems like it would be a pretty good idea for us, right?

Thanks for any information if anyone has done the VIP tour. We'd love to hear personal experiences.

I can't give you any personal experience, I just want to say that I would consider it, too, if we were a party of two. The best part would be having someone point things out to you that you might not notice and, as you said, give you some history.

I've never been to Universal and we only have one day AND we are going during Spring Break, so it will be super-crowded. I'm doing all the research I can to get the most out of Harry Potter, but I know we will still be lost and confused a bit. We are a family of four and we just couldn't afford it, but if I won $1000 tomorrow, I'd sure consider it.

I just did a VIP tour a couple of weeks ago, and it was absolutely wonderful!!! We had Michelle as our guide, and I cannot say enough good things about her. Feel free to ask any specific questions, but I highly recommend the tour!
