Non DVC with DVC dining plan question

Does anyone have experience with this situation? Our DVC friends will be staying in WDW for 10 days. We will be going down and staying with them for 6 of those days. We are thinking about doing the quick service dining plan. We have heard that we have to do the same dining plan, if we do one. But, will we be able to do it if we aren't staying for the same amount of time?

No. It's for all guests, for the length of stay. Same as a regular package.

If you guys have your own room on their points you could.
