does such a thing exist?

I was thinking of bringing a backpack to disney later this month, but the more I think about it...what do you do with the backpack when you go on a ride??

Would a fanny pack of some kind be a better bet?
and if so...where can I find one that doesn't look so "fanny pack"?

imho....

"non-dorky fanny pack" is an oxymoron.

Having said that, why worry about 'non-dorky'? If it works for you and is convenient, then go for it !

We carry a small daypack that is also handy for putting extra layers in (we go in February), water, snacks, camera, etc. Just put it at your feet on a ride.

I really don't think such a thing exists!

Do you have stroller age kids? Strollers can be a lifesaver for carying around things. Have you thought of getting a smaller daypack?

Yes there will be room at your feet for all of the rides!

That back actually looks too small for us! But we bring our own water, juice and some snacks.

I think it would depend on how you are planning to do the parks. Are you going to buy all of your drinks and snacks? Are you going to take a mid day break?

For a 3 and 6 year old, I would definitely take a stroller! Even if you only take one, the kids can take turns riding. But that"s just me! I know you didn't even ask about that though...

Lots of people use fanny packs at Disney, so you won't stick out. They are GREAT to use, especially when you don't want to carry a lot of stuff. Everyone in my family carries one to hold pins, sunglasses, phone, autograph book, fold up rain poncho, etc. I like not having to keep track of it every minute of the day - it's just there.

I know...I am still trying to convince my dh that we need a stroller.

Do the rental strollers have a storage area on them at all?
I am thinking we'll either borrow or buy double jogging stroller with a swivel wheel (we're driving)...or rent a double at the park.

Thanks for the help :)

I used a regular sized backpack at Disney this year, and had no problems taking it on any of the rides. Don't worry, Disney thinks of these things, and has places to stow your stuff on everyride that I can think of.

The rental strollers do not have any storage. If you borrow or buy a double just remember that you will need to empty it and fold it to board all the buses, trams, and some of the boats. The monorail will generally not require you to fold it, but at very busy times they might ask, since you will have to use the handicaped space on the train to fit a side by side double.

Yes,
we will be using our car to get around, and would only be using the stroller in the park...not when we're resort hopping or at DTD.

I have read way too many threads where big strollers got on peoples nerves and I don't want to get on anyone's nerves.
If we ever do end up having to take the stroller on any of the transportation I promise my burly dh will have it folded and ready to board before the transportation arrives!

I wear a Disney fanny pack. It is black with a Disney logo embroidered on so it is very unassuming. They still sell them in the stores for $16-$20. I am usually the type to sacrifice comfort for fashion and I don't feel funny at all wearing the fanny pack. It is so convenient and I don't have to dig into the backpack everytime I need $, fastpass, $, tickets, $, sunglasses, $, etc.

I wouldn't worry about others, just your own ease of handling, even on trams. Actually especially on trams, the seating on those is already tight, with the stroller try to get in one of the front rows that have front/back facing seats. Most park lots will require you to either ride a tram or have a long walk in. For the MK Disney transportation will be easier/faster than driving yourself.

There is no such thing, IMHO, as a non-dorky fanny pack. However, that doesn't stop me from using one. There are so many people wearing them at WDW, that no one pays any attention. We all look dorky together!

I forgot to pack the 5-6 fanny packs we have at home. So #1 on my list was to buy a fanny pack. I was carrying the camera, my ID (which I tend to lose) my moEwy and my all important cell phone - to keep up with the boys

Every store carries them. I found 2 types. The simpler black one with the Disny logo and a slightly larger one - blue with Disney Logo and "dreams come true" saying as part of the year of 100 dreams. I loved this one. I had large center compartment, and then a velcro front compartment that was similar to a wallet. It had space for ID and room/ticket passes. And best of all a place for my cell phone. I am notorious for not anwering it on time because I'm always digging for it. I was so proud to have it handy in the front part.

Even though we had a stroller, a fanny pack was easy to carry sm sunscreen, eye glass case, DD's klennex and even the girls autograph books. Just jump on a ride and no worry.

A few yrs back DH was able to buy a camera type fanny pack with a small Mickey on it. He has used that one for years....sports games, field trips, etc. I even used it often. It is more cushioned for a camera yet had space for other items.

I figure at WDW there are people of interting people to see. So wearing a fanny pack is probably the least dorky thing to wear. LOL!!'

Wishing you a great trip.

As a first timer, I highly suggest bringing a stroller.

You know your kids best, but I found great comfort in knowing that in huge crowds that DD was strapped and not getting lost in the shuffle. She is on the small side and I know there is no way she could keep up with her brothers. Also my DD8 is extremely small for her age and her leg simply cannot keep up. So one stroller was shared.

We loved having it at the resorts and especially DTD where the crowds get huge and the stores and very easy to lose sight of a child.

I hope your DH comes around to the stroller idea. After reading many post here, the Maclaren one was a lifesaver. Carries up to 55lbs, folds super easy and has a carrying strap. It is an umbrella stroller that beats any light weight stroller I have every used. We purchased especially for the trip. It was the best $100 I spent. There were some nights when DD8 sat in it and DD5 sat in her lap. It was a breeze puch even with both of them init. Renting a stroller can add up $$ and we really wanted to have one at the resort, etc.

I think if you find that you do not need the stroller you can leave it in the room, but if you do need it you'll have it.
Having at the airport was awesome, again we knew where DD was, safely buckled in. It was for DD and much as it was for me. I hope your DH reconsiders. But again every child is different.

I'm only posting this because of the custom clothes thread... or else even I would think I was nuts-

I found this and thought that if I added a zipper (to really make the stuff inside secure) it would be perfect. I made one with leftover scraps as one of my first sewing projects and it was super easy.

I say buy some cute disney fabric and go for it!

There is no such thing. The solution to the dorky fanny pack is the Baggalini.

DH and I both wore the very convenient, dorky fanny packs and I also carried DS's small preschool CARS backpack. Perfect for our needs.
