I'm having a big birthday this year (ends in 0) and looking to take my three sisters away for the weekend. Budget is very tight as I'll be paying for all whatever we do. Anyone have suggestions of where to go in December for a weekend that isn't too expensive for flights, hotels and activities from Boston.

Thanks for all your suggestions!

If you can wait until the last minute, like 2 weeks out, you can get good deals at some last minute travel sites like site59.com. Also check travelocity & orbitz for last minute travel. If you don't want to wait until the last minute, you can try sites like Hotwire or Priceline. I've used both and have no complaints with either. They both have whole vacation packages as well as flights, hotels and rental cars.

If by weekend, you mean just Saturday and Sunday, your choices are pretty limited so that you won't spend most of your time in transit. If you can extend to 3 or 4 days, Las Vegas is pretty cheap once you get there. The trick is finding a decent flight. If you don't mind the red-eye flights, though, there are some inexpensive package deals available.

You could also consider a driving destination like NYC. Plenty to do there. Reasonable hotel rates just outside of the city and wonderful public transit. We always park at the Port Authority (about $20/24 hours) and walk or subway where ever we want to go.

Depending on what you like to do, Niagra Falls (Canadian side) can be fun. They have the falls, of course, casinos now if you like to play, and plenty of fun stuff. Easy to find enough to do for a weekend there.

DC is a great place to visit for a short vacation. The Metro is clean and gets you to all the major attractions.

NYC or Chicago. NYC is wonderful around the holidays, a must do for us. I've only been to Chicago twice, but by far it is my favorite US city. The mag mile is just so cool, briming with shops and restaurants. I've never been in Dec, but I would imagine it is very festive and cold.

Good Luck.

NYC is fun in December. Do you mind the cold? South Florida is offers warmer weather and hurricane season is over by December. Maybe the Fort Lauderdale/Pompano Beach area on the east side or the Naples/Fort Myers/Sanibel area on the west side?

If you mean early December, it's a very slow time for travel. So you'd find plenty of bargains. If you mean to travel closer to Christmas, your airfares will be a lot higher.

TNT Vacations can do 3 and 4 night vacations out of Boston or Manchester, NH. You could do Bermuda (1 1/2 hour flight) but it is cooler in December- 60's. The Bahamas is close and TNT has charter flights there in December too. Cancun is a 4 hour flight and Aruba is a 4 hour flight. You may want to look at GWV International as well. They run charters out of Boston. Charters to the Bahamas run about $399pp for 3 nights. Air, hotel, transfers, meals, drinks.
