Hi, We are going on our first Disney vacation this fall and I was looking for a hotel walking distance to Downtown Disney besides SS. We would be going to Gatorland in the afternoon and might eat at Downtown Disney in the evening. The following day we are checking into the Beach Club. There are 5 people in our family. Is there such a resort under $200? Or does anyone know a Downtown Disney resort that has a shuttle going to DT Disney in the evenings?

Thanks!

I have stayed at all seven of the properties in the DTD area and have enjoyed each of my stays. The closest of the seven properties for walking to DTD would be (in order):

Hilton
Wyndham LBV
Buena Vista Palace

Most of these properties you can easily book for well under $200 per night, per room. Some are even under $100 if you catch them on the right time/date, etc.

Why not stay at the Art of Animation Disney Value Resort? You get the free ride to the resort from MCO on the Magical Express; Disney will move your luggage to the Beach Club the next day. You drop your bags at the bell desk, head out for the day and return to the Beach Club latter that day and your luggage is waiting for you. Plus you get the EMH...... seems like a no brainer to me :)

hey even old and fat me had no problems walking to DD from Best Western Lake buena vista - the area is flat so not really a problem

I don't think a standard room at a Disney value resort will accommodate a family of 5.

Most off site hotels have a resort fee and/or charge for parking. Make sure you include any applicable fees when comparing rates.

The Art of Animation does.

Are you sure? Everything I've read says a standard room at AoA, standard rooms at AoA are located in the Little Mermaid section, sleep 4. I don't think a standard room has room for a cot

AoA is not as inexpensive as some of the DD hotels.

op - check out the specials in the link you were send

That was my point. A family suite at AoA (5 won't fit in a standard room) could be triple the price of a. DTD hotel.
Travelzoo, Mousesavers and this site generally have a promotion on at least one DTD hotel.

hey I was agreeing with you.

You have to look at the big picture, total costs and value.

It is for one night only, gives them Magical Express transportation to the hotel, Disney does the transfer the next day and they get the other onsite perks.

They're going to Gatorland. That suggests they'll have a car and don't need DME. They plan on spending that night at DTD. That suggests EMH isn't a factor. Also suggests a DTD hotel is a good location. Disney transfers won't be an issue, theyll have a car. They're staying at BC. They'll want to move their car if their first park is DHS, EPCOT or MK.

I don't agree with your conclusion. I think best value would be a stay at a DTD hotel.

When looking on a Google map of Wyndham LBV and Buena Vista Palace, it appears there is another property between them (just to the left of Wyndham LBV) with two pools and tennis courts. Do you know what that might be? TIA.

Not sure what you may be looking at there on that picture. Can you post it here and let's look. There is no other property between the Wyndham LBV and the Buena Vista Palace. The Palace does have a separate building from the main tower. You may be seeing that and thinking it is another property, though it is a part of the Buena Vista Palace.

My (adult)DD and I just stayed at the WYNDHAM LBV a few week ago.....we were in the outside rooms not main building...It was clean and the main lobby was nice enough..food selections etc...pool was nice I thought....
It was just for a nite...we had a short walk to DTD....we were not there to go to Disney(had just been there with family in Jan)....
Sometimes you can get a deal on Expedia....yes watch out for parking and resort fees...they can add up quickly....there was only 2 double beds...in the outer room...

The only property on Hotel Plaza Blvd. that I know that does not charge a fee for parking is the Best Western However, you can park at the Buena Vista Palace for free if you just tell them you did not drive and park in their very large surface lot to the left (non gated) as you enter the hotel property.

There is no way for them to know if you drove or not. Just tell them you did not and there will be no parking fee. This lot is safe, as we use this to park when we go to DTD so as to not fight all the traffic going towards the garages and surface lots of DTD.
