Hello! I have my 12th trip to WDW coming up for this Easter break! This is very exciting because it will be our son's very first trip to WDW...he just turned one. Unfortunately, he can't have any dairy products until he is 2. So, I was wondering if anyone knows of any options that we may have in terms of yummy snacks / treats that we can treat him to. I wish he could have icecream....but that's not an option. Thanks for your help!!!!

My DD has a milk allergy and can't have any ice cream either...when we visited a few weeks ago she stopped at one of those ice cream carts and wanted to have something...they had a non dairy frozen strawberry bar...it was so delicious...she enjoy it and I was happy that she could have a treat

Be cautious if you are considering the Dole Whips. Don't know if it's definite but I did hear that while the Dole whip at Disneyland is not dairy based, the Dole whip sold at WDW is.

Nevermind, I didn't know that the Dole Whip base is different between Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

I don't think there's a difference between the two parks. Dole makes them, and there's only one recipe. There is sodium caseinate in all flavors, which is a milk derivative. So while it's not made directly from milk, there is a component of it. Ingredients of the pineapple flavor: http://www.precisionfoods.com/foodservice/bnd_products_details.cfm?skuid=10922&id=103

There are non-dairy ice creams sold in certain locations, but reports are that it's a pain in the butt to get. Off the top of my head: Itzakadoozies are dairy-free, pretzels are (as far as I know), and the kaki gori shave ice in Japan.

Maybe, but to be certain one should ask. There was a recipe posted here not long ago that involved cream of some kind.

And I do know for sure that the Disneyland Dole Whip tastes different from the WDW one.

It is my understanding that the Dole Whips are "lactose free" but not "Dairy Free" so while to many the difference would not be apparent, for those of us with food allergy/sensitive kids it is.

The presence of sodium caseinate would explain the distinction as there is most likely protein from milk present, but not lactose.

Yes, the Dole Whips are lactose free, but not Dairy free.

You can find ice cream places in the parks that have dairy free ice cream available.

I would go to the DisAbillities Board and there is a link to the diet specialists and they will provide you with the places that carry the dairy free snacks.

Popcorn was also fine when I went in October.

Thanks everyone that replied! I will certainly check out the Disabilities Board. I'm sure the little one would be happy with shaved ice or something along those lines. I guess I just know how much I look forward to icecream on a trip....:)

I LOVE the lemonade, raspberry lemonade frozen lemonades (not italian ice...actually frozen drinks). I get them with snack credits on the DDP all the time. My friend's 2yo and 3yo loved them on a hot day. The snack carts also have popcorn and popsicles.

My milk allergic DS enjoyed chocolate Tofutti ice cream at the Plaza Ice Cream shop on Main St. It's listed right on the big menu board, "Tofutti and Rice Dream also available." He was also served Tofutti or Rice Dream for dessert at many restaurants and a non-dairy milkshake at Whispering Canyon Cafe. He has never eaten so well. He also loved the popcorn, but that's probably a choking hazard for a younger child. Divvies chocolate chip cookies (milk, egg, and peanut free) are sold in many counter service areas and the Main St Bakery. Oh, and the Itzakadoozie popsicles were a huge hit with both my children.

So excited about what I'm hearing! We are so happy that our little guy will be able to have some "ice cream" Is the non-dairy icecream you are speaking of made from Tofu? I will certainly be on the lookout for the cookies also. Thanks so much guys!!!!

My DS is dairy and egg allergic (he has had anaphylaxis from dairy and even reacted for the first time to his flu shot this past winter due to his egg allergy, even though his numbers for both have dropped dramatically over the last few years). So I can relate!

Disney is the best vacation spot we've ever gone for his food allergies!

All the buns, hotdog and hamburger, are made by Interstate Bakery, which makes Wonder Bread. Unfortunately, about 6 years ago they started adding dairy to all their breads. So at a counter service place, make sure you get dairy free breads! They frequently will have kaiser rolls to substitute that are dairy free. He's eaten hot dogs without the bun, cut up of course for a 2 year old, as they didn't have any other buns.

If you go to a table service place, make a note of the allergy. He's gotten Rice Dream and Tofutti before, and felt so special to get that!

The table service places will help immensely with choices, and the counter service ones have books with ingredients as well. We had to have a cast member call a manager once to find out about the pretzels (I felt bad, he went to so much trouble, as his cart didn't have the ingredients) and did find out that at least on our last trip, the pretzels were fine (we really need to make sure, as one time at a restaurant in Baltimore, the pretzels had egg wash, and I didn't ask, he reacted so bad, took 3 or 4 teaspoons of Benedryl). Still, I'd ask each trip to make sure there aren't changes.

We used to also bring cookies and things, so he could have a treat.

We've been going to Johns Hopkins for allergy testing since he was a baby (first diagnosed after anaphylaxis at 8 months at an army hospital), and get blood tests once a year. That has helped, as he outgrew sesame and peanut. The test is called a RAST. I really recommend it, if you can. My DD outgrew her milk allergy at age two, luckily.

Good luck!

Tofutti is a company that makes a lot of soy-based, non-dairy products including ice cream. It's made from soy milk, but not tofu. My DS loves it. I prefer coconut milk ice cream. Tofutti also makes ice cream sandwiches, fudgesicles, soy cheese frozen pizza, sour cream, and cream cheese.

I cant believe they have Toffuti ice cream on Main Street...now that is just another reason for us to head back...this is my DD usual snack at home and have never heard of anyone ever selling this product...love disney for all sooooo many reasons!!!

Wow! I agree...just another reason to love Disney!!! We'll have plenty of options it sounds like......
