Noise cancelling headphones

Anyone have any suggestions on a good brand to buy for our trip. Cheap earplugs would be nice, but dd (ASD, age 4 by vacation) would not go for those. She likes the headphones at school, so I thought about investing in a pair that would muffle some noise. Also, there is a possiblilty of a plane trip during summer, so I know I would get good use pretty quickly...

Anyone have any or know of a good brand?

My son(11 w/ autism) uses headphones in a variety of situations. I buy them at Wal-mart in the sporting goods/hunting dept. They muffle the noise enough for him. I have also put earbuds(that are attached to ipod or cd player) inside the headphones. He would not put the earbuds in his ears, but tolerates them in the headphone. He does not like crying babies/kids and the music is usually enough to tune out the crying. Hope this helps.

I bought Peltor Kids noise canceling headphones for my dd with ASD. They even came in pink and are sized for kids. A lass she would have nothing to do with them even though they were pink her favorite color. I got mine on ebay.

I haven't personally used them, but I have heard from others with ASD or SPD that the Bose noise-cancelling headphones are good. They actually make two different styles - one that sits on top of the ears (like regular headphones) and one that goes around the ear (there's a layer of material and I think you slide your ear between it and the speaker side of the headphone). The latter are a bit larger than the former.

I have a cheap pair of noise-cancelling travel headphones that I got with my laptop. The noise-cancelling feature doesn't really work on them. I don't wear headphones often enough to invest in the Bose pair, though. (I've only ever tried the cheap pair a few times, although now that I have a new cell phone that plays music, I'll prob'ly be wearing some type of headphone a bit more often.)

For a child, the Peltor's are by far the best. They are sized to fit a childs head and ears, and come in child friendly lime green and hot pink.

I have tried the Bose - they are probably more expensive but they're really effective and very comfortable.

We, well our daughter, who's ten and a child with autism, uses the Winchester shooting ones they sell at Walmart. They are adjustable and seem to be comfortable, and if they break or get lost, we haven't broken the bank. You might consider picking up a pair or two of them as spares.

We also use the hunter/construction worker earphones that we got at an outdoor store for dd8 and DS5. I don't recommend buying some of the widely available "noise cancelling" headphones as they seem to work well for airplane noise but not so much for the loud music and stuff. My husband has a pair of Sony ones and He agrees that they work best for low level airplaine, fan, etc. noise. The ones for shooting have a decibel rating so you can judge how much your little angel needs. HIH Also, my kids seem to prefer the type that go around the ear with gel filled pillows.

I was going to add my advice but everyone beat me to it! LOL!
My DS (6 yrs. w/ Autism high functioning) uses Winchester hunting "Ear things" (that's what my DS 8 yr.s old calls them). I like them because I can adjust the decibel range. He wore the last time we at 'Da World and when DS 6 was given some Mickey stickers he immediatley covered his ear-things with them.

My DH works for a defense company. When they are on military bases and they get the noise from those big jets they all swear by the bose. They may be a little more expensive but out of all the ones he tried they work the best.
