We leave for Disney in three days and my mother-in-law has become stressed out about the possible noise level disturbing our "cottage-view room."

She read in the "Unofficial Guide" that some rooms (although not specifically "cottage-view") are disrupted by the fireworks and outdoor bands of Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island.

Can anyone speak to how loud it may or may not get in a "cottage-view" villa at Saratoga Springs? I mean, with the doors and windows shut? I can't imagine this is a real problem, but my mother-in-law can't seem to settle down about the prospect of none of us being able to sleep.

Since I booked the villa for us, I feel responsible, and I know it's too late to switch (although she doesn't understand that -- this is her second time to need to request a different resort -- we were originally at Boardwalk Villas).

Thanks for any insight!

We haven't stayed there since the "birth" of Saratoga, but stayed 4 times when it was the Institute; four different townhouses and the only one where we heard the noise was the time we were close to the water and then it was only disturbing on the side closest to the water; the bedroom on the other side of the townhouse was fine. Wonderful area; the remodel into Saratoga is lovely. Enjoy!

We stayed there last August in a 1 Bedroom Villa. We had a view on the lake looking over to Pleasure Island. We did not hear any noise coming from there.
We enjoyed staying there. You will love it. Tell your Mil not to worry, it is very quiet there. Enjoy your trip! :sunny:

I have no idea what a "cottage view" is at SSR. We stayed in Congress Park, had a view of Downtown Disney. We never heard any noise from the Island and only heard the fireworks if we opened our patio door. The Fireworks only last about 3 mins, so it's really not a concern.

Not sure where the Guide gets it's info.

My family and I enjoyed a week-long holiday at SSR in early January. At about midnight one night, as I was downloading the pics from my digital camera to the laptop computer I heard a very faint popping coming from outside -- it was, of course, the fireworks from DTD. Thirty seconds later it was all done. DW didn't even notice it until I pointed it out to her one night. We heard no music at all, and our 1BR villa partially faced Westside and PI.

Like another poster, I have stayed several times when this place was the Disney Institute and twice in a Townhome with an incredible view of Down Town Disney! So close, when we opened the door to the deck/porch...a few ducks waddled into the living room! :teeth:

If you are up you may notice for a couple minutes some fireworks noise but nothing upsetting, imho! For our family, the view is wonderful!

Are you sure you are guaranteed a "view?" The reason I mention this is because maybe you can request (based on availability) being closer to the front/main part of the resort due to MiL concerns? :teeth:

It really wasn't a problem but put things in perspective for her by explaining all/most feel a "view" is a plus! ;)

You sound very considerate to MiL! Can you bring a "fan" for white noise???? Hope she ends up happy! :flower:

Have a magical vacation! :wizard:

all DVC resorts in the bedrooms have a fan.

she may be concerned about the construction noisey. just don't be there during the day....

We have been at SSR twice, both times in Congress Park overlooking DTD - no noise to be heard unless the sliding door was open!!

Enjoy the trip!!

That was a MAJOR point for impressing hubby and I - with the balcony door closed, you can't hear a thing. Nor could we hear other people in the halls that were definately there when we were touring.

I remember reading that DVC used special sound proofing on the units closest to DD to reduce noise. Supposedly special windows were installed to eliminate the noise problems. Based on what I have read on this board, it appears that it works.

I can tell you that the doors on the balcony are HEAVY, so they probably did Rence.

We stayed in an SSR studio right across from DTD and the fireworks. We tried to stay awake one night to watch the fireworks. I saw one pop and hear almost nothing! We thought the villas were exceptionally quiet!

I was there last week... absolutely quiet. Even during the day, Disney construction workers did a fine job of not disturbing the guests. I was waken only once at night with the fireworks.

Fireworks are less than a minute. By the time you hear them and run to the window they are over.

Who keeps writing this garbage about noise?

We stayed during Braves Spring Training, as close to DTD as you can get. Never heard a thing, I took a nap on the balcony.

All this bad press about SSR, I do not get it, this is a first class resort.

We are going this Nov/Dec. , and I was worried b/c we have 4 kids with our youngest being 4 and a very light sleeper. I am so glad that the fireworks are short and can't be heard. Thanks for posting this info!!!!

Another noise-related issue: since SSR has all of the separate buildings and each building has wings, the number of people that have to traipse by a given room's door is much smaller than the interior hallway DVC Resorts.

When the slider is closed you can't hear ANYTHING. With the slider open you can just barely hear the fireworks, which last 40 seconds (timed on my husband's watch). We never heard any music from PI or DTD. There's music at the pool (even the "quiet" pool) but that's the same at every resort and hotel. It's a serene, relaxed, quiet property with great access to restaurants and entertainment in the evening.
