NOBODY IS MORE SURPRISED THAN US! GKTW alumni return! 10/21 MOVING DAY!!

Rachel was a bit hard to wake up this AM and has been very tired, but her pupils are okay and she is just taking it very easy. I have been a bit wary of letting her out of my sight, but she has been watched by big brothers when I wasn't available. Thank you again for all of the prayers! She is sore and has a mild headache and a lump on her head of course, but it could have bene SO much worse!!

Oh no :( poor Rachel! I will definitely be praying that she heals quickly, keep us updated and send her our good wishes! Sorry about the car situation as well!

Thank you so much Courtney. Pete was able to get the car running (we REALLY need at least one!) and Rachel is gong to recover well.
Hope that Rachel feels better soon. So sorry that when you are in a rush the van won't start, hopefully it will be an easy fix for ya'll.

I am glad Christian had a phone interview hopefully it will pan out and he will get a job. I have been applying for some online the last few days because I still don't have a work assignment since the gentleman I was taking care of passed away, and I need the money I make working.

Hope the rest of your day is better than the first part was and ya'll will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thoughts and prayers to everyone who needs them.

Thank goodness it was just the battery and Rachel didn't hurt herself any worse than she did.

Christian has had so many phone interviews, face to face interviews THIRD interviews where "offers are forthcoming" and he gets so discouraged, but keeps plowing onward. No one like Target, etc wants to hire him because he is "over-qualifeied" and they feel he will leave for greener pastures. I know God has a plan though! I hope you find something soon!

We have so may sharp counters in our kitchen it could have been so much worse!

Praying for a quick uncomplicated recovery for Rachel. Continuing to pray for a job for Christian.
Thank you on both counts Debbie! :goodvibes
Praying for Rachel!!!! How frightening!!! Prayers for good things from the interview for Christian, too.
Thank you Jennie. I know my other three were very scared, I was thankful I was home when it happened...I was actually very close to her when it happened, just happened too quickly to catch her.
I am so sorry to hear this. Extra prayers being said.
Thank you very much Piper! :goodvibes
Praying for a quick recovery for Rachel and that the van just needs a battery and is an easy and cheap fix! Also, how awesome that you were able to pay it forward in such a huge way by giving Pete's car to MAW to auction!
Thank you Meredith! I am glad it WAS just the battery. I can't believe we have to pay the $1,500 deductible for Rachel two days before Pete's high deductible kicks in...definitely "Judy's Law." :lmao:

It wasn't a great van obviously, but MAW was very happy and felt they could get a little money for it and that makes us happy! I just signed us up for this years MAW walk last week. We did a pretty good job with our fundraiser last year, it makes us all happy that we can help out in some small ways.

Checking in to see how Rachel is doing today. Good to hear she is doing better and being watched over. So glad Pete got the van working with a new battery. Know we are keeping you all in prayer. Billy goes for his doctor appointment tomorrow. :hug:for you and Rachel!

Hope Rachel is feeling better tonight. I'm so glad she didn't hit the counter corner on her way down, but I'm sure hitting the floor did a number on her. Benjamin had a concussion when he was 7. A boy at school pushed him down on the playground and he hit his head on the concrete. The school didn't notify me (we have since changed schools), and he told me it had happened when I picked him up. On the way home, he started vomiting, so we headed straight to the doctor's office to get him checked out. Fortunately, or pediatrician's office has all that equipment to check for concussions so we avoided a visit to the ER. But it is scary stuff. Poor girl, I hope they can figure out what caused her to pass out.

Sandra, congrats on the pregnancy! How thrilling for your family! I hope you are able to share your news with the rest of your family soon. My sister has been trying for #4 and lost a baby back in March. She told me a couple weeks ago that they are expecting again, and when she went for her first ultrasound this week, they found out they are having twins!! :cool1: She said the babies are measuring small with slower heartbeats than expected so she doesn't want to get her hopes up, but the doctor said that a couple days off on their estimates early on can account for that. She goes back next week for a follow-up. I am so excited for her!

Rachel was more sore as the day wore on and the headache didn't want to go away. She was back asleep at 8 PM after dozing most of the afternoon. I am glad we see the MD tomorrow AM.

Please let Rachel know my family is praying for her. Hope for answers on Thursday.

JJ had a really good day yesterday. This afternoon wasn't so good.
Thanks Tink, Please know I am praying for JJ and I hope the rest of your trip goes well!

Prayers for Rachel.
Many Thanks Kathy! :goodvibes
Oh my goodness! I hope Rachel recovers quickly :flower3:

You are a strong woman in so many ways - I probably would have lost it when the van wouldn't start. I sincerely hope it is a quick fix.

Thank you Dawn. :goodvibes

I would like to say it is the only time I have gone out to a vehicle to take a child to the emergency room and it wouldn't start...but it isn't. I am just thankful Christian was home!

Judy - reading about poor Rachel brought back bad memories of my mother falling down a flight a steps on Thanksgiving last year, many extra prayers going out for Rachel today! Mom had a severe concussion and a fractured sternum but no other injuries, I am here to tell you that 73 yr old women "don't bounce well" or bounce back well but finally after many months she is back to normal! Rachel is young and will be back to her normal self very quickly!

To all on this thread - I am just back from a vacation, I have figured out that I am TOO OLD to travel with a 5 year old very active boy!!!!! But we had fun and that is all that is important. And did I say VERY VERY active 5 year old.............just shaking my head right now trying to figure out what lapse in my good judgement I had when I planned the trip :rotfl2: For those of you that have a boy around that age........GOD BLESS YOU!

Now I can catch up on the Disboards, the only thing I have read on here for the past 8 days was this thread, I was given very little time on MY kindle to say the least, I had to compete with 75 games - I kid you not, that is how many he has on here, all free of course because I have better things to do with my money than buy games for a kindle. I had to buy "skylanders" (those with boys will understand),toy animals from Virginia Safari Park, yard sale treasures ie TOYS, Spiderman popsicles, Happy meals - only to keep getting the same Minions over and over ...............yadda yadda! But he is a good kid 99.9 % of the time, has manners, never meets a soul he won't talk to, thinks of others ..................gosh, I don't know about you guys but it sounds like I am describing Judy's kids ;) I can only hope that he will grow up to be like her 4 children:flower3:
Rachel surely didn't bounce; however, I hope she bounces back easier, she does have youth on her side. I am thankful your mom is much better!

Sounds like a fun, busy trip...it brought back many memories of my little BUSY Christian! (He is my ADHD child). He is a different person than he was. I am so happy you were able to get away! :yay:

Your nephew sounds like a wonderful little guy. Thanks for the compliments on my brood. :goodvibes They aren't perfect; but, they are amazing!

We are praying for Rachel. Poor thing. How nice about donating the van to Make A Wish! What a great way for Lisa to feel like she is giving back or paying it forward.

Thoughts and prayers to all.

Thank you Michele!:goodvibes It was a good match all around for us to give the van to MAW.
Praying for Rachel and all of you!
Thank you Kelly! I hope we can chat soon! :goodvibes
Judy, I'm new to DISboards and to your story, but am looking forward to reading all about your trip! You have a beautiful family and I hope this trip is wonderful!

:welcome::welcome::welcome: to the DIS boards and my Thread! I love new friends and I am glad you found us. Thank you for your kind words and for letting me know you are here. Stick around, you will learn more about us than you EVER wanted to know! :goodvibes

Hi Judy,

I "met" your family a few months ago when I was reading Wish Trip reports. I figured it was about time that I said hello.

I hope your girls are feeling better and that you all have a great trip in September!

Christine

I am glad you have reconnected with Mrs. D and that it looks as if you will be together for the coming year. It means a lot to know and like the teacher our children have. How exciting for Jeremy, the BIG playground, how fun for him! It will be so much easier for them to be at the same school, especially with the baby!! I know it wil all work out and the children will be so happy. I used to love to go to the appts and hear the heartbeat. I hope all is well.

Glad to read that Rachel is feeling a little better. Hopefully you get results tomorrow at her appointment.

So are we!! Hopefully we're going to see her again in about a week for a play date with the kids. The best part about the BIG playground is we just got a new one at the beginning of June. So it's really a big deal. :rotfl2: Oh yes one school is going to be easier once the baby makes it's arrival. That's the one thing I look forward to most about the appointments is hearing the heartbeat. August 14 can't come fast enough but at the same time that just means we're closer to when school is going to start!! Don't know how ready I am for that.

Thank you! We are very excited and I'm ready to tell the family but have to respect my DH's feelings too. Ahh I feel your sister's pain. Before we had Jeremy we lost 2 and after having James we lost 2 more. So I really do understand her feelings. That's great news that she's pregnant again and with TWINS!!! I'll be honest that was my worst fear! But would have been happy any way! Yes they can be off on dates!! When I went in for my 1st ultrasound this time around we were thinking we were only about 4 weeks but the ultrasound showed different. We were actually 8 weeks (had a false period the month before)!! And with twins it is easier to be off on their days. I hope the best for her and let us know how her follow up goes!! Congrats to your family for the new additions too!!

Wanted to give an update on my step father in law. So we had an appointment today with his Dr. and were told he has COPD (lung disease), pneumonia, a torn esophagus and a very minor hip fracture. There is a very small possibility that he'll be released tomorrow but I voiced my concerns about that because he's still not able to eat very well and I'm afraid that if he goes home it's just going to get bad again. He's only drinking Ensure at home and at the hospital they are at least able to get some food into him. I think they took what I said under consideration so we'll see. I'll keep you posted on what's going on.

Praying for Rachel for a quick recovery! Glad Christian was home so you could use his car. That's great to give back to Make-A-Wish with Pete's van so they can use the money to help grant a wish to another child. Praying that you can find a replacement car for Pete soon!

Thank you Gail, it was a blessing Christian was home. The other three were so frightened, I was gad I was here when it happened! We were glad MAW wanted it and it made us happy to do it. I KNOW you know how much we need that vehicle for Pete.

Praying Bily's appt goes well today!

I think it might be in my best interest to boycott your ptr and resume reading about 6 months AFTER your trip is over.
PLEASE don't do that!!! :flower3::flower3: You know I will share and it will be in just a few short weeks...you will see WHY when I share the news!! I just had to say I actually HAD made a plan, even if it was small!

Looks awesome! Hmmm, if I wasn't married I think I might be after Christian for his cooking (he'd just love a *29* year old like me LOL!!!).
He is going to make someone very happy!!
I have never seen Hunchback either. My dh said it had bad reviews, but this is Mr. Anit-Disney speaking. I'm going to see if the library has it.
I really was surprised, but I went in to it with extremely low expectations!

Oh goodness! Prayers for Rachel. Ben's had two or three concussions (not sure about the last one as it happened while we on vacation and I didn't witness the accident and he didn't actually vomit). Anyway, I hope Rachel feels better tonight and gets a wonderful night's rest. I hope she doesn't have horrid bruising. Poor, poor dear.

What good news on the van though. I have a feeling by blessing MAW you too will be blessed in return. It's the law of attraction :)

I am so sad about your insurance changes. So are you telling me that *Affordable* Health Care is a misnomer??? Imagine that! :dumbo:

Thank you for the prayers for Rachel! Christian (school accident in middle school) and David (drunk driver when he was 11 months old) have both had concussions and now my poor sweetie. My problem is my children never complain, so getting all of the info of how they truly feel can be tricky. Rachel is lying in the hospital and says "well, this is nothing compared to what Lisa endures". I had to remind her nothing is ever worse than someone else's stuff, just different. I hope Ben hasn't had a lot of residual problems form his! Rachel was just glad she didn't do a face plant and "break her nose."

I FULLY believe God is working on this car, I just haven't found it yet. When they don't respond to my calls, I take it God doesn't want me to have that one and don't get discouraged. Trying to stay patient, but I do get weary.

Ha ha on the Affordable health care...You know exactly how I feel about al of this! I found out more about this lovely plan last night when Pete brought home the info sheets. One of them was that They will pay for three of us to visit the dentist...the other three will not be paid for...seriously! Okay, I wil stop before I get started!

Judy, I'm praying Rachel feels bettervery soon. How scary! I'm so glad there's no brain bleed. Still I'm sure she will be even sorer tomorrow. Poor thing. As usual our lives are eerily similar. We ended up at the ER today with our oldest daughter too. I had to call 911 this morning for a particularly bad seizure that Tessa wasn't coming out of. Tons of tests (including an EKG for her blackouts), lots of meds, a patient advocate, a change of Drs and about 6 hours later we are finally home and she is feeling better.

Thank you for the prayers Krystal!

Many prayers for Tessa!!:hug: I hope that will not prevent you from getting away again this weekend!

Praying for Rachel.
Thank you Chiara!!!:flower3:

ARRGH!!! It is so frustrating when the DIS locks me out!

Poor Rachel! Sending prayers for a speedy recovery.

Amanda

Thank you Amanda, it was not a fun time. I appreciate your prayers!

Oh no, poor Rachel. And that must have been so scary for the rest of you to have to see her go through that. I hope that you get good news at her appointment on Thursday.

I felt baldy for the other three children, they were so worried, but I really just had to plow through to help Rachel. She wasn't even dressed when it happened, she had just finished breakfast and needed to get dressed and to the hospital quickly. Thank you for the good wishes. And CONGRATULATIONS on the PREGNANCY!!! I thought I posted that on your thread but realized i hadn't yet!!! I am so excited for you, I know you have been through a lot!

OMG! Prayers for Rachel! I really hope your able to get some answers.

Prayers for Christian on that he gets some good news on the job front!

God bless Sandra, Thank you!!! I am waiting on the blessings to roll in! Praying for the doctors to have LISTENED to the needs you expressed!!!:hug:

Judy, we just got back from a very last-minute road trip, so I haven't really caught up very well, just enough to see that Rachel needs our prayers after her fall and Tessa also needs them. You have been on my mind and heart these past days even though I couldn't log in. Please know I didn't abandon you - just didn't have a way to check in. I'll try to catch up on everything tomorrow.
Welcome home Amy, so happy you got away for a bit!! :woohoo::woohoo: I have been praying for you as well and relieved to know you were away because you were spending time with family!! I hope you share what you were able to do! THANK YOU for the prayers!!!!

Oh Judy, I'm so sorry for Rachel. I hope she is ok. That must have been such a frightening experience for you. Praying that all is well and that she recovers fully.

Argh! Sorry about your car. My gosh!

I love the positive note about donating Pete's van. :) It will help be a blessing to someone.

God bless you Brenda, Thank you!! The sound of her head cracking on the floor keeps going through my mind reminding me how fortunate the injuries weren't worse! For David and Lisa to hear it UPSTAIRS is just unbelievable! David said he thought the refrigerator had fallen over. :sad2:

I have to laugh about the car, since we made it to the hospital, Poor Pete was stuck at work, no vehicle, mine wouldn't start...and I HAVE had this happen taking Lisa to the ER before!

I was so excited to share we had given MAW the van...I love that van, it was a Godsend to me for many years! There are always many positives in life, even in the midst of the minutia...but you know that very well, I know! :goodvibes

Prayers sent for Rachel, how frightening! Ruth
Thank you Ruth!!! Praying you are well! I had my socks on Tuesday at the hospital, they are a comfort!

I hope Rachel is better this morning. That sure was scary to read about. I can't imagine actually seeing it. I will be praying for her.

Thank you for your prayers! :goodvibes It was a sight I will not soon forget and the sound of it keeps playing min my head.

Praying for Rachel. My eldest son, David, has had a couple of concussions. Scary stuff. David was seen at a concussion clinic after his 2nd concussion and was told that the first few days after his concussion he was to be in a darkened room with minimal stimuli to aid in healing the brain. Is this something you can get Rachel to do? For my son it was next to impossible, but it may be helpful for Rachel.

Thanks for the prayers Erika! Good info on the quiet /dark room, it is similar to migraine instructions. Rachel actually is craving decreased stimuli, so it helps! I pray YUR David has no residual effect!

I am sorry to read about Rachel fainting. Praying she doesn't have any long term problems. :goodvibes
THANK YOU for the prayers! I pray that as well! :goodvibes
Oh my gosh! I didn't get email notifications from the Dis and then, all of the sudden, I have over 100 and I saw your post about Rachel. Poor thing! I'll be praying that the soreness and the knot on her head goes away soon. Praying praying praying!

Ah, Lisa, we have all been there with the DIS not sending the notices. :goodvibes But a 100 notices! You follow lots of threads! Thank you for your many prayers you are a great friend! I think the knot is the most disconcerting for me, it is raised and just feels huge to me. :sad2:

I hope you all have a fabulous day, I will pop back on as I am able. I pray Rachel wakes up feeling MUCH better than she did when she went to bed!
:thumbsup2

I know the overqualified part my husband gets that all the time. which is why he has a degree in computer programing but is doing construction for a living.
It is hard for me because I do home health care, and am looking for something with more regular hours, but they don't really consider it as experience for other kinds of work.

Hope today was better than yesterday.

Thoughts and prayers to all that need them

Even my friends who do construction are having trouble getting work here; however, I think the building is starting to pick up. We have so many vacant "started" construction around town.

I haven't worked in one since nursing school; however, back then nursing homes would hire HHA. I have no idea if that is the case now. I will pray for you to be able to find something that has regular hours and decent pay.

Yesterday WAS better, Thank you! :goodvibes

Checking in to see how Rachel is doing today. Good to hear she is doing better and being watched over. So glad Pete got the van working with a new battery. Know we are keeping you all in prayer. Billy goes for his doctor appointment tomorrow. :hug:for you and Rachel!
Thank you Gail, she was sore yesterday, with headaches and not any better today but we shall see what the MD says shortly. Praying for Billy's appt! It is a comfort to know you are praying and to have you lift up all of our needs. :goodvibes

Glad to see Rachel is feeling better.

Thank you! :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

The construction company he works for does a lot of remodeling and not to many new builds, but he has had periods when he has been out of work too. I don't know what we will do if that happens. All our nursing homes around her require a CNA and unfortunately my has expired because I wasn't working at one when it was time to renew it. Just trying to get something part time until I finish my degree which should hopefully be at the end of next spring.

Hope everything went okay at the doctors today, and hope that Rachel continues to feel better and all the other kids are doing okay.

Thoughts and prayers to all that need them.

Happy Thursday! I hope Rachel is feeling better and the doctor appointment went well. I also hope Lisa is continuing to feel better and stronger each day.

I have good news to report - YAY!! My apartment lease is up for renewal at the end of August - I received my letter about the new rates at the beginning of July - there was so much going on then that I just couldn't deal with it other than to notice that my rent was going up $90 per month!! :scared1: I almost had a panic attack so I put it away because I had other more important things to attend to.

Well - last week one of the ladies from the office of my complex called me and and asked me to call her back about my rates. I knew a decision had to be made so before I called her back I figured out what I wanted to do which was essentially move (to where I have no idea because I have no money to move but...I also can't afford $90 more dollars a month so...) I also did not want to move because I have lived in this apartment for a while and I have a lot of memories with my puppy dog here.

So decision made I called her back. After an encounter with a RUDE lady in the office I was able to speak to the one who had originally called me. She wanted to work on making sure I was able to stay - I was a bit surprised as this is a big corporation and why do they care if I stay or go it is just a rent check to them. She was so very kind and she worked with their corporate office to reduce my rates and now my rent is only going up $5 -- I couldn't believe it!! This was me :cool1::woohoo::yay::dance3: I am so happy that I don't have to leave or find someplace else to live. :cheer2:

Oh my goodness, so sorry about Rachel's fall. So very scary. Trying to catch up because I took the boys to Kansas City for a get away before school starts next week. ( yes we start that early). Prayers for all with requests.

Debbie

So glad to hear that Rachel is feeling better. Continued prayers that she will be back to feeling like herself soon.

We actually went back to CA for our road trip. No visiting family (although we could have stopped to see several along the way). David wanted it to be just us for a week so we could spend time with one another. His work schedule now through November is going to be awful and we won't get much time with him until Thanksgiving. So we putzed our way along, stopped where we wanted to, and just enjoyed ourselves. David has always wanted to see the Reagan library, so we went there for a day and it was truly interesting (I wasn't expecting much). They had an exhibit on Abraham Lincoln with many of his personal effects that was fascinating. We also spent some time at a couple different beaches, truly a novelty for us CO folks! But now we are home, and my Grandma comes on Sunday, so I am cleaning my house in preparation for her visit. With the kids home all the time, every room was a disaster! I promised the kids that if we got it all tidied up today, I'd take them swimming tomorrow.

Hope you all have a wonderful day. Hope both JJ and Tessa are doing better, as well.

Morning, ooops...afternoon Judy. My how time flies when you're having fun at work. NOT! LOL! Hope that everybody woke up feeling lots better this morning! Tell Christian to be watching for a delivery either today or tomorrow!

Just a quick update, Rachel's concussion isn't any better. She has to rest as much as possible until August 13. She can do some low key things IF I feel her cognition is okay and she is up to it...She begged to be able to play guitar...within moderation was approved, again if I say she can. IF she isn't better Monday, I need to get her in to the neurologist. I just made the call, I am not waiting until Monday, it can take three MONTHS to get in to neuro!

Her head hurts, her thought process is slow, as is her response at times.

I am comforted to know you are praying! Thank you!!

I am so sorry to hear about Rachel's accident...so scary and hopefully she will be all right soon. I am praying that Christian will find a job soon. My son was out of work for 9 months and it was scary for him. He is on his own so he had rent etc. He lives in Maas. About 3 hours from us but he got a job at a job fair and is okay now. No matter how old they are Mama still worries!
