Nobby's Gnomies... heading to WDW in April 2010

I've managed to tear myself away from the weather sites to come check on everyone.

Jen (MM), thanks for the invite. :goodvibes I think we are going to spend the night at my SIL's.

Jen, (JJ), I have been watching the radar -- mostly rain for us right now, but that is an ugly set of storms moving through the FL panhandle! Be safe!

LL, I am glad you are glad it's Friday. I am not terribly excited about my weekend. :scared:

Julez, you would make a great teacher.

Did I miss anyone?

I once worked as a para in pre-k through 4th grade in our school district for about 4 mos. I was about 23 at the time. Anyway, my job was to work with the few students in each class that needed extra help, most usually the special education kids who were integrated into the classroom, and some behavior-issue kids. It was the MOST rewarding and fulfilling job I've ever had in my life. Every day felt like I had done something wonderful with my time and energy and it was an amazing feeling. My best memories out of those times where when a child who was hard to get through at first ended the day or week positively. AWESOME!

This alone tells me Julez that you will make an awesome teacher and I would truly encourage you to follow that dream. It is not always a rewarding profession and good teachers do it out of the love of teaching. If you can look beyond the frustrations, knowing that you are making a difference to some of those kids is a lifelong reward (for both of you)

MM: gosh, I would be sure to encourage your Aunt and Uncle to consider doing TS lunches as the week before Easter is probably going to be a busy one and I'm not sure they will have a lot of luck with dinner. The other option to consider if they want dinner is to look at the resorts, I think they tend to be less busy than the park TS locations. At the very least, they should try to call ahead on the day of and make sure they can get in.

JJ and CP: stay safe and try to relax! I have an event at work tomorrow that I am hosting, ironically the topic is Safety During Severe Weather. I'll be thinking of you

Thanks! I don't think I will be relaxing until about 10:00 tomorrow night. I just keep praying that we will all be okay.

Yes Thank you for your well wishes Katie!! If we can make it through til tomorrow night it will be okay...I just hate the constant rain...and yes so far today I have had 13 kids absent...that is at least 10% that have been out today LOL

Jen, I was hoping you tell us that you and Tom has booked Free Dining already!! :rolleyes1

I was hoping too!!!! BUT, you never know what the weekend will bring!!!!!!! :rolleyes1

Is price an issue?? If not Hollywood Brown Derby is great at DHS (but you might need an ADR LOL)

Of course EPCOT has a ton of great restaurants, such as Teppan Edo (which might do well for a walk-in with 2 people).

Price is not an issue---they are on the Dining Plan---but they would like to stick to 1 TS restaurants to get the most out of their plan. I think I will recommend Teppan Edo for them as well. Thanks!

Not have ADRs....

Brain can't compute...

:faint: :faint: :faint:

I know---I tried talking them into it at the beginning, but they really want to go with the flow, and I respect that. They were unable to have kids, so it is just the two of them, and I think it will hopefully all work out in the end for them. But if it were me, you KNOW I would have to have my ADRs!!!

I'm glad you will be somewhere safe!!! So, what is your two cents about my ADR question??? I would LOVE to know!

Luckily, they are early dinner eaters already---so that was not difficult to encourage them to eat their big meal at lunch---and I have been primarily focusing on some resort eateries for their options---especially in the monorail resorts.

Here are some of my favorite suggestions that I gave to them:

Grand Floridian Cafe
Ohana
The Wave---haven't tried this yet, but have heard good things about it.
Coral Reef---they wanted a seafood option

Does anyone have anything else?

Les Chefs has a great lunch menu...if they wanted to do a late lunch early dinner and they might spot Remy...however because of Remy a seat might be hard.

I hear Beaches and Cream is really good and they won't need an ADR there if they want to go for an early dinner.

If not Ohana's they can always try Kona's I hear it is wonderful!

Hi Stacey! You HAVE been busy w/your new job, huh? That's super, I hope you get the promotion!! And free dining IS in the rumor mill from Aug. 15- Sept 30th with booking starting March 30th!

I'm PRAYING I can convince DH to let me go down for my birthday! Even if just for like, 2 days! LOL. I told him yesterday that with his sudden go-getter attitude about money, he has to understand that I am interested in travel and makin' memories w/a good quality vacation EVERY YEAR so if HE insists on being into material things, he'll just have to put up with it or let me go w/the kids myself! ::yes::

BUT... Disneyland just released a deal with buy 3 days, get 2 free for hotel and tickets until October! And since I'm DYING to go to the D23 expo in Sept, that would be so amazing!

My wheels are spinning.... in all honesty, I shouldn't let them...but I WAAANNNTT TO!!!

Juelz!!!!!! I wanted to go for my birthday too!! You know what that would mean if we both went for our birthday?! ;)
So, free dining is only for the Disney Visa folks at this point right? Not that it really matters...I don't think I would bother with a ton of TS meals if I go solo...oh I want it sooooo bad....but can I afford it? Not really.....ugh....I'm so undecided....:headache:

Thanks for all of your encouragment on the job-front ladies! That is very nice of you. I make it sound better than it really is though I think...basically, the store has no assistant manager at the moment but one of us will be chosen for that role in the next few months - but Jen (my manager) thinks it will be me since she likes me and I'm her only fulltime employee! But, I want to prove that I would deserve it should it come up sooner.

Jen and all others who are in the south, please do what you can to stay safe with your weather situations! I have a terrible terrible phobias of storms and tornadoes (we don't have many tornadoes but I was in one at age 8 in a mobile home we used to spend weekends at....not good) and even hearing you talk about it makes me break into a sweat! I can just imagine the adrenaline you must go through....I pray you're all okay.

LL - I can't believe it's time for you to move already! Time has gone sooo fast! I hope everything goes well!

I hope everyone else is enjoying their Friday!:goodvibes

GFC and Ohana are two I strongly agree with, I second Jen's suggestion of Kona. Wildernes Lodge would be a possibility for Whispering Canyon Cafe fairly close to MK. Any of the Beach/Yacht club restaurants would be a fairly short trip from either Epcot or DHS. Fulton's looks like a delicious option for seafood.

Stacy, I'm glad you are doing well at your job. You realize that if you and Julez go for your birthdays that Jess and I will be the ONLY gnomies not to visit WDW in 2009 (unless Jess decides they deserve a graduation gift) :sad1:

MM-Beaches and Cream!!! And I totally agree GFC is so laid back, but never busy and has some excellent food. Have them try the mini desserts!! :thumbsup2

CP and JJ-Still thinking about you guys!

Don't worry Katie...as much as I want to go I don't honestly think I will....even if I do it will likely only be for 3 or 4 days. And it wont be HALF as good as Gnomefest is gonna be!!:woohoo: Do you realize that soon our countdown tickers will be at less than a year?!

Do you realize that soon our countdown tickers will be at less than a year?!

Oh yeah Baby!! I am watching those tickers closely just to remind myself that it IS getting closer (ever so slowly, but closer!)

And I hate to sound bitter, really I'm not (OK just a little maybe). I'm glad you all are able to manage all of your trips. I'm just jealous that I am not in that position this year, next year will be a stretch but I AM GOING!!!

Don't worry Katie, as MUCH as Jess would love to have a graduation gift (and damn well deserves one!) we won't be going this year. I figured it up and for what all we have spent on the dog this year with the surgeries and renewing her pet insurance ($996), that's what I spent on our trip in december, for park tickets, room and 1/2 of our food. Major bummer, but it's ok though! We'll have twice as much fun in 2010, think positive Katie! You will not be alone in 2009!

Hi gnomies! :). Can't believe a week of vacation has flown by! I head home tomorrow. A good time was had by all. Although Nobby got some sand in places he'd prefer not to talk about. :rolleyes1:

Is it wrong that I'm looking forward to DISing as soon as I get home and all day Sunday? Well too bad b/c I'm looking forward to catching up! Hope you all have been well!!! :). :). :)

C, I have missed you!! It's not wrong to want to come home and DIS all day either. :thumbsup2

Okay, who has booked me a surprise Disney trip in December? I have gotten mail and emails this week welcoming me back to the Wilderness Lodge in December. I canceled that reservation, is Disney trying to tell me something? :rotfl2:

Good to hear from C. Have a safe trip home.

Jess, I agree, you deserve a graduation gift. The best part of finishing my thesis last spring was to allow myself to completely begin obsessing over our June trip!

I have a friend on facebook who is also a big Disney fan (in fact, he has a picture on his website from his 1st wedding anniversary trip. It is a positive pregnancy test next to all the WDW toiletries in their resort bathroom. Funny in a sick way) He sent me a message yesterday to make sure I had seen the announcement for free dining. I asked him if they were going to get to go and this was his response:
I'll probably book a trip and pay the minimum deposit. That usually keeps me from dwelling on it and kinda gets it out of my system. Then I wait until 46 days prior to the trip and I cancel the whole thing and immediately move on to resenting Shannon for not allowing me to put us deeper into debt. It's a very mature process

:rotfl2: It made me laugh and I just had to share!
