Nobby's Gnomies... heading to WDW in April 2010

Gosh all this talk of severe weather! There was an F5 tornado last spring not too far from here. It demolished half the small town including the high school. Thank God it was a Sunday and they had graduation the week before. A few people were killed but a LOT survived. It's been inspriring to watch the town rebuild, lots of community effort. I was through there this past fall and it was eerie to see what at first looks likes a community being built in what used to be farmland but then you remember there used to be houses and stores and fully grown trees...scary stuff

I have never seen a tornado in person. Greg has memories of the previous F5 in Iowa that went right through his hometown when he was 5. Lots more people killed back then because the warning systems just weren't as good.

Glad your safe Jen, keep an eye out and be cautious. You too CP!

Julez-Major bummer about the house, but it's probably for the best with the way the economy is going anyway. Maybe you can get a few trips out of the deal

CP and JJ-I agree! You girls be careful with the predicted weather!

LL-Just noticed your Ursula banner underneath your ticker! Love it! It describes Miss LL and her indecisions with ADR's, number of days, who to travel with, etc. with her trips :thumbsup2

Ahhh...I'm so frustrated...our internet in our has been off and on again because they are upgrading the system. However they told us it would be fixed today for good, however my hubby who gets done early on Thursday just went home and texted me that the internet is out. Apparently the storms this morning interfered with their work and put them behind schedule and we are without the internet again. He went down to talk to them just to find out what was going on..and they said hopefully Saturday Morning we will have our internet again...this time instead of turning it off just during the evening they are completely turning it off....OTTV what am I going to do...I know I'm being dramatic...its not the end of the world but still I want working internet LOL!! I figured I would get some sympathy for my shallow issue from you guys...so thanks for letting me vent LOL!!!

Oh, CP! I had scary tornado dreams last night, I am worried for you!

Oh, no! Don't tell me that!!! :scared:

Well I don't blame the parents at all because we don't have sirens so there is little to no way to know if we are under a tornado warning unless listening to the radio or watching the tv. What really bothers me is they don't stop buses in the area or things like that...just makes me very very nervous.

You don't have sirens??? That is scary in and off itself!

Yup we're back in session...and I'm glad makes the day go by faster. But we're in for more storms tonight so we'll see LOL

Hope the storms are all bypassing you, Jen!

Uggghhhh, tornadoes really scare the dickens out of me as do tornado stories!

Thank you! Unfortunately, there isn't really anything I can do except pray...

That stinks!!! We were down to one computer earlier in the week when Charles's computer decided to have major problems with the hard drive and power supply. That was bad enough -- I would be seriously perturbed at no internet at all!

What are gnomies for?
  • Laughs :lmao:
  • Sympathy
  • A place to vent :headache:
  • Friends to share with :grouphug:
  • FUN :woohoo:

So true!

Well, I kept hoping and hoping and praying that the weather predictions would grow less dire for Saturday, but I think they are becoming worse. While watching the Weather Channel tonight, Dr. Forbes said that Saturday could see dozens of tornadoes in the Southeast with many of them being long-tracking ones. I don't even know what to do at this point. Do we plan on staying here in our one level ranch house? Do we go to my SIL's house where there is a partial basement? Do we go to my parents' which is a split foyer? I don't know. What if I pick the wrong place and that's the one that gets flattened by a long-tracking tornado??? I think I might go throw up now.

Have any gnomies sat down and read through the official disney recipe thread?? OMG is it amazing!! I was looking particularly because I'm sick of making the same old thing over and over for dinner. I have heard a lot about many of the items listed, I'm particularly looking at Raglan Roads Bread Pudding! But thought I'd share (to find some of your favorite food items or just for a new dinner idea) if you haven't already seen it before.:grouphug:
They have each broken down by appetizer, salad, dessert, etc :thumbsup2

CP, you need to calm down. Breathe In. Breathe Out. Put your head between your knees and count to five.

Okay.

Not that I have ever experienced a tornado but I would go with a basement. Find one. Be near it. Better yet, why don't you head down to Pop Century for the weekend. :thumbsup2

Everything will be fine, I promise.

Jess, yes Ursula is very fitting for my indecisive moods.

And Gnomies, no more tornado stories! :scared1:

This thread is perfect for the Disney Dinner I am planning in our new apartment! :thumbsup2

Trying the breathing. I will be fine for a few minutes.

I did actually think about leaving town this weekend...

Jess, what a cool thread!!!

Maybe you should, no use getting yourself so worked up. Remind me if I move South to make sure I have a basement, then you come stay with me. :lmao: :thumbsup2

Our luck would be that we would drive right into the worst of the weather. :sad2:

My next house will have a completely underground basement! That I will insist on!

Oh CP! I hope you will all be OK! Don't fret- how many tornado seasons have you gone through unscathed? You'll be fine!

I'm listening to the Disneyland podcast from DIS Unplugged right now. Hoping I win a trip to DLR! I can dream, can't I?

MM --thank you for sharing your story, my eyes are misty and my heart feels swollen:hug: I'm so happy that you were able to lift some of that burden. Maybe next year I'll go with you...I have some burdens that have weighed me down a long time and just can't seem to talk about or get past. As a result I totally understand where you're coming from:flower3:

Paula---thank you so much...I am always here if you would like to "talk" and start unloading some of those burdens!!! My prayers are with you!

MM-Another tear jerker for me too! That is such a wonderful story!!

Thank you so much Jess!

MM- What you wrote was beautiful and I'm so happy you were able to get past your anger and resentment to come to a place of peace and recognize your blessings to their fullest! That's wonderful and amazing. God never ceases to amaze me. EVER.

Thank you so much Julez!!! I am so glad to have such a supportive group to share with!!

I am so excited for you in your future ventures to join the wonderful profession of teaching---you will never regret it! My daughter suffers from Sensory Integration Dysfunction (Sensory Processing Disorder) and I know that there has been a HUGE increase in diagnoses of this disorder in recent years. It might be a noble field to specialize in along your way. Best of luck!

Things are pretty quiet here, same ol' same ol', just the regular running around....still debating on the short solo trip in September. I'm wondering now if free dining might come into play!

It's BAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be thinking of you all weekend and praying that you are safe no matter where you are. You could simplify things by just packing up the kids and the pets and hightailing it up here to KY to spend the weekend "tornado-free" with me!!!! ;) Wouldn't THAT be fun!

Good Morning Gnomies.

:woohoo::yay: TGIF!! :yay::woohoo:

LL is DONE with this week.

And now I get to pack all weekend. One week from today we will be moving into our new apartment. :cloud9:

Good morning Gnomies! How are Jen and CP this morning? I saw on the news there were a # of twisters, but I didn't see that any of them were by you guys! I hope you're ok this weekend. CP, I hope you've taken a Xanax by now, you must be climbing the walls.

Thanks for the well-wishes on my teaching idea, ladies! I really appreciate encouragement anywhere I can get it. The girls at work laugh when I've said I wanted to teach originally, that I got into the medical field out of convenience, so I've stopped bringing it up to them. I once worked as a para in pre-k through 4th grade in our school district for about 4 mos. I was about 23 at the time. Anyway, my job was to work with the few students in each class that needed extra help, most usually the special education kids who were integrated into the classroom, and some behavior-issue kids. It was the MOST rewarding and fulfilling job I've ever had in my life. Every day felt like I had done something wonderful with my time and energy and it was an amazing feeling. My best memories out of those times where when a child who was hard to get through at first ended the day or week positively. AWESOME! I'd abandoned that dream when I got married, had Rachael, and did the fast-track education route. After 4 years in the medical field- 2 years studying it and 2-1/2 working IN it... it pains me to even consider going into nursing. Kids dying or in pain hurts me too much and the adults often frustrate me rather than me providing any empathy. It's a gift I don't feel I have.

Anyway, I'll stop rambling and put some clothes away. Does anyone else feel that laundry is a lost cause? I miss the days of being a singleton and "laundry day" truly was one day out of the week! Ugh!

According to the weather channel its going to be a very long day today. I don't imagine my attendance is going to be very high because a lot of my kids will stay home and I really don't blame them. We have severe storms heading our way and I'm sure CP is watching the radar just like I am.

I grew up in Kansas so tornados are not new to me but I really really don't like them at all...I actually fear them worse than a hurricane because at least I can prepare for a hurricane...and no sirens...okay well I'm going to stop this train of thought. Also with these storms I'm pretty sure my internet will be out again for a little while longer, trust me those men are not getting anything done outside today...its a downpour!!

Julez...I'm so excited for you...you will make a great teacher and I wish you the best. It's not easy, but I love it and can't imagine myself doing anything else in the world.

As a high school English teacher, I always felt that sense of reward and fulfillment after almost every day of teaching. I know that might seem a bit of a stretch, but I sincerely never felt like I had to "go to work." I never dreaded going and working with my kids---I think you will find so much joy and rewards from teaching!

The laundry lined cracked me up----I swear my family makes a RIDICULOUS amount for just of the three of us!

Please stay safe and be careful---I will be hoping for your safety all day!

LL---I can't believe you get to move in a week!!!! I am so excited for you!

Today is going to be a pretty typical Friday---take Megs to preschool and hang out around the house. I think I need to go through her closet and drawers and really clean them out and get everything ready for the spring/summer transition. I know Free Dining is out for Disney Visa people, so Tom and I have yet again been thinking about our much wanted September trip. Wish us some luck that we finally get it all straightened out! I want to have it figured out so I can move on with all the other fun!

I hope everyone has a great Friday!!!

I forgot guys, I wanted to ask you all something...........

My beloved Aunt and Uncle leave on Sunday for a week at WDW----I know, jealous, right?!?!?!? Anyway, they are very laid back people, and even though I helped them set up most of their trip, they only wanted to make a few ADRs because they want to be free and take it as it comes to them.

Anywho.......they don't really want to do any character meals, so I made them a list of restaurants that I also thought they would enjoy. I want to give them as many centrally located ones and REALLY good ones worth the trip into parks for (they have hoppers) so that they would have a good list to use as they go through those days that they DON'T have ADRs for........what would be your suggestions?????

Is price an issue?? If not Hollywood Brown Derby is great at DHS (but you might need an ADR LOL)

Of course EPCOT has a ton of great restaurants, such as Teppan Edo (which might do well for a walk-in with 2 people).
