A vent :

Yes, we work hard.
Yes, we pay our bills on time.
Yes, we have money in our savings account.
Yes, we budget.

However, we are not rich. We work very hard for what we have. And your attitude for not giving you money when you don't work is not appreciated.

Vent over.

"Yeah, we're rich, and we like it. But if we gave money to losers who don't work, we wouldn't be rich. Sorry!" ;)

:grouphug: I can sympathize.

oh, yea, frustrating. I don't like rolling out of bed @ 0500 3 days a week, eating all 3 meals (that I bring from home) at work and getting home @ 8PM. But I do it, because I DO like the perks it allows us!

After 25 years, I no longer attend the occasional get-togethers with DH's extended family. Most don't like rolling out of bed, either. So they don't!:lmao:

I am not sure what you are talking about but if it is how lousy our tax dollars are spent I am right there with you!! I am so sick of seeing people I support with my tax dollars take advantage of the system! I would love to see a break down of the number of people on welfare versus the number of people who work and support them on a state by state basis, I bet Kentucky would have far more on welfare than working. It makes me sick when these film crews come into Eastern KY and show the worst cases of poverty, what they fail to mention is one or both of the parents are on drugs and they sell their foodstamp cards for 50% of what they are worth so they can go buy drugs. Oh gosh, now my vent is over!

Oh could I vent on this -

The system is broken - My Aunt purposely doesn't work - this way her and her husbands income is lower and her children go to school for next to nothing. My parents worked hard their whole life....and I have student loan debt. My parents could afford to pay my entire tuition bill.

Vent over - I feel better

I hate our welfare system. I work 12 hour days watching kids(daycare provider,36 years), and I see the fraud all the time. I am watching kids now and the parents do NOT work.I have reported this and nothing is done about it. I know of two people , just had a baby, on welfare and the system fixed their cars so they could go job hunting. 6 months later they still have not gone job hunting. I report things all the time and no one seems to care. It makes me just livid.

You must be a nurse like me :-)
I hate being called "lucky" because we don't worry about money. Come spend a day at work with me getting cursed at, back strained, physically, emotionally and mentally drained, and walk around with a perpetually full bladder because I can't even find time to pee in a 13 hour work day, and then call me lucky. Oh, and and I am so lucky to write those checks every month to student loan repayment, and daycare.

( I had to register just to respond, this topic makes me NUTS)

I wonder if your aunt is a girl I know? :sad2: I have an acquaintance who purposely doesn't work and makes sure her husband doesn't make over a certain amount a year so that they and her children and her one on the way can be on the system. This is her intent! She feels she's paid enough into the system? Uuuuummmm, you're in your early 20's how have you paid enough into the system?

Edit to add, I'm one of those who roll out of bed every morning before 6am to go to work.

I really don't understand how people can be content & feel they have a good life living on welfare. I'm sure every state is different, but the maximum income to qualify for welfare in my state is very low. If I only made that much in a year, even with all of my food & healthcare being paid for by the state, I'd still struggle to pay for housing, clothes & other basic needs. I suppose if you also live in subsidized housing you'd have more discretionary income, but still. The only way I can see having money for the things you want while still being on welfare would be to work under the table while collecting benefits. (Which I'm sure some people do, but there are probably many more who just live on welfare & don't work at all.)

I, too, thought OP meant her relatives. Is there any chance you could clear this up for us, OP?

Amen!!
How about the family member who wants us to pay his way to Disney so he can spend his money drinking at the bar every night??????????????

I assumed relative, but it sure could go both ways! I am right there with you OP, more with non-relatives though!

It sounds to me as if you are very wealthy.

How much money a family has to throw away is not a measure of the important kind of wealth.

Yes, relatives. Mainly my MIL. Who is "disabled" and lives off the state and taking advantage of other people. Yet constantly whines about not having any money and says that we don't understand because we are rich.

You don't want to get me started talking about welfare and people who search to find a doctor to claim them as "disabled". (I do know there are truly disabled people out there, so don't think I am talking about you!! :) )

I'm all for helping people when they hit on hard times. However, I am tired of people assuming I haven't had to work for what I have....that it's all a matter of luck. And, the assumption that, if someone has less than I, somehow I'm OBLIGATED to give them a portion of my wealth, otherwise I'm branded as "GREEDY" :scared1:

The bottom line is, most polititians believe that all wealth belongs to the government, and we should only be allowed to keep what they feel we "deserve" (after they're taken whatever they need to buy enough votes to stay in office)
