No values or moderates available!

My sister and I planned a spontaneous trip for Jan 25th-26th and the resort selection is quite slim. I understand that deluxes are wonderful resorts but I can't convince myself to spend $450 or more on a room for one night. So, even though this post just sounds like a rant, I am wondering if there is some type of event going on as to why none of the other resorts are available? Or has anyone had any luck with availability by refreshing every couple hours leading up to their trip? A pain but would be well worth it for me to find a value or moderate. Thank you in advance.

We live an hour away and I looked at almost all weekends from January through February and there really isn’t much available. I did see pop on Priceline but it was more than I feel comfortable spending for a value

We had the same thought process several months ago when we were booking our trip (we arrive that weekend). I was shocked by how limited the availability was at what's supposedly (I know, I know...) a lower crowd time of year. Likewise, at the 60 day/6 a.m. mark, we didn't get several of the FP reservations we wanted either. Guessing it'll be busy!

When we booked, it seemed like we got one of the last available rooms at POR. The only other moderate available was I believe Caribbean Beach. We tried to book Pop and it was unavailable. We are doing Boardwalk for part of our stay, but got lucky in that the pricing for that with a deal ended up being barely more than POR.

Some people on here have reported having more luck with availability for last minute short stays when they actually call WDW.

Apparently they often have availability that does not show up online.

The Swan and Dolphin has availability for around $300 per night. You get most of the same perks. We usually stay there and love it.

Have you tried renting DVC points?

We rented DVC points at the 8 month mark and pickings were slim already.. we ended up with a one bedroom for the night as studios were long gone, FWIW. I was really surprised!

Maybe just book something with a good cancellation policy and keep checking, especially in the week leading to those dates. I was constantly stalking discount availability prior to my most recent trip since I couldn't book my room at a discount when it came out. Quite a bit of rooms opened up over that week and by the night before my check-in day, a room at the discount I wanted opened up and I was able to apply it to my reservation! People cancel last minute and just take a hit on the fees.

I booked my upcoming trip in mid-October.
I start at ASMusic for $85/per, but have to move to Pop Century for the weekend at $165/per and then move again to ASMovies for the remaining nights at $85/per.
A pain having to split the vacation over three resorts, but that was the cheapest I could manage to get.
